  • The chomping sound is SO irritating.

  • Wow... I didn't think I would find a video about his game... i played this when I was 5.. We somehow lost it to a donation store...

  • How long was Magnavox Odyssey 2 run?

  • "Why aren't they doing that today?"

Suddenly, a Wii U pops out of nowhere

  • putting atari pac man to shame

  • @bombydruful No.

  • @bombydruful That distinction belongs to anyone at IGN.

  • @bombydruful No but you are. He is a great game reviewer and a pleasure to listen to for us retro freaks like myself

  • it's amazing how these game was taken off the market cus of copyright, while there are many many FPS out right now that are virtually the same game with slightly different skins

  • 2:46 CGRHD?

    What?

    THE O2 DARE QUESTION CGR?

  • Plus, you could make your own mazes!

  • Best gave EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • KILL THOSE GODDAMN GHOSTS!

  • I love the opening song to classic game rooms show.

  • KC & the Sunshine Band the Video Game!!! LOL

  • @ripperoo1

Get and Oddyssey on Ebay! I can promise you a good time with this game.... Vintage old school

  • @ripperoo1

hahaha.. NAH MAN... Were not crazy... The game is a classic... Have you ever played it ? It's really fun...

  • Wow! That looks really cool! I gotta admit, I was skeptical. I think this was sufficiently different from pac-man to warrant keeping it on the market.

  • why not windsquid ?

  • K.C. Munchkin sounds like the name of a DJ.

  • first game i ever owned.still a very solid game today,still hasn't lost it's charm.

  • Back when cartridges had handles.

  • lol mark??

  • does anyone agree with me that kc munchkin copied of of pac man?!

  • @ripperoo1

Yes they copied it BUT they made it better and more unique.... KC munchkin rocks!

  • Zaxxon!

  • this game is actually one of the main causes of the video game crash of the 80's, which can be traced to the collapse of Atari. this game came out at the same time that Atari bought the license to create their own Pac-Man game. Atari sued. and lost, but they later appealed to the supreme court and had the ruling overturned. but in the process they neglected to actually finish work on their Pac-Man game and had to release an unfinished proto-type.

  • xanadu is that a Rush reference o_0

  • Kentucky's Chicken Munchin'.

  • whats the name of the track at 0:35? its rad

  • SUE SUE SUE!

  • It's a Pac-Man Very Easy!!!

  • This looks BETTER than pac man. It takes the concept and adds a lot of great ideas to it.

  • This looks more fun and crazy than "real" Pac-Man!

  • I have been looking around Youtube for the Odyssey 2 speech module, but (surprisingly) I can't find anything related to it. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Not a, 0, etc. I am debating making my 1st video, with the Odyssey 2 Speech module. Like a little "demo". It's a simple "text to speech" module that plugs into the cartridge slot. Anybody interested about how it sounds?

  • I love KC Munchkin

  • xbox of ps3 plz reply

  • thats the same thing as pac man

  • @nut5hot not the same, similar

  • i had my o2 for 3 days now and all my 16 game cartriges have static. tips?

  • pick ax pete was my favorite

  • Rip-off of Pac Man

  • I miss the other stock music. =(

  • kc munchkin? this is a gay version of pac-man.

  • @IIIIdepechemodeIIII Bah, munchkin is a very good version and far superior to the Atari 2600 version

  • hey check out my review of the magnavox odyssey 2

  • The maze looked like a swastika at one point...

  • I have a question for you (and I hope you answer!) Do you think you will ever review Conquest of the World? It was easily the best game on the console - yes, honestly even better than KC Munchkin (or just Munchkin as it was called over here in the UK). You do need someone to play with to truly enjoy Conquest of the World, but your reviews are always a good trip down memory lane, so to see that game reviewed would certainly put a smile on my face! I also know a good exploitation bug in it! haha

  • Wow I played this as a kid religiously, in fact we still have our old Phillips Videopac (UK version of the Magnavox Odyssey 2) under the stairs along with this game. I always thought this was Pacman - i was born in 82, so you'll have to forgive my ignorance! Only several years later when I was a teen I realised this was in fact a bit of a ham-fisted rip off. But I came to appreciate it again through this review, I have some great memories of playing this with my mum. ;)

  • I'd love to see pacman on the PS3 the controller is just right for the gameplay!!! Anyone know if sony will do this...?

  • Hi,

I'd love to see pacman for the PS3 as the controler on the PS3 is just right for the gameplay!

Actually I'm amazed Sony haven't brought this out on the PS3 yet!!!

  • I had an Odyssey 2 and this game. I think I'll swing by mom and dad's house someday and see if it's still stashed in the basement somewhere.

  • pacman

  • my mom woulnt let me use her oddeysee that has all games

  • I think this game also let you design your own maze. Very ahead of his time

  • Dude this game rocks.... I grew up playing this game.... I remember getting the Odyssey as a kid WOW.... brings back memories...

  • what's the name of the first song? I know it's stock music, but there must be an artist.

  • Comment removed

  • man I used to play this game all to hell at 3 in the morning I think I had all the games for the Magnavox Odyssey 2

  • My sister owned an Oddessy 2 back in the day and we both played it to death. KC Munchkin was one of our favorites and my sister once got beyond 2000 points.

  • Thanx for the vid.

  • Anyway one tip that I have for you is on maze 3 (the maze that looks like four rooms); clear out the first "room" K.C. is in then go through the side door clear out that room and then follow the rotating door in the middle to the next rooms while saving a the power pill for last since you have to spend time in the middle with recovering munchers. There was only 2 other people in my neighborhood with odyssey 2 everybody else had atari but everybody used to come over my house to play Odessy.

  • I want to let you know that you make ALOT of bad moves. I haven't seen or played this game in well over 20 years but I had the highest score that I ever saw. I had 6085 (on board 1, not on any programed maze where you trap the ghost). I went outside and gathered some of my friends as witnesses because I heard that one of my friend's older brother flipped the scored over 9999 but no-one saw it. I had to sweat it out against the dropping last dot and the last dot that sometimes goes through KC

  • did you mean xanadu as in the movie or the awesome song by rush?

  • I want K.C. back!

  • Just in case anyone is interested... in Germany this game was called "Super Mampfer" (sold as a Videopac cardridge) - I used to have it and it was great fun! Everyone of my buddies played Pacman on their Atari 2600, but when we met at my place, everyone wanted to play this "Super Mampfer"... *strange, eh?*

  • What's sad is that this ripoff of Pac Man was a lot more fun to play than the version of Pac Man made for the 2600.

  • im gonna use targetory or

    targettry

  • i had this game! loved it... i was the coolest 8 yr old back then!

  • I remember the oddesy 2 at Sears and ont being impressed with it. If they had demoed this cartridge more people may have bought it

  • You got to give KC Munchkin credit... I had it on my O2, back in the day. All the kids who owned Atari's came over to my house to play KC - The Atari version of Pac-Man sucked that bad.

KC Munchkin (And Turtles, Pick Axe Pete, and Killer Bees) made me proud to be one of those 'freak' Odyssey 2 owners.

  • @Diskoboy1974 AMEN! I loved my odyssey 2 back in the day, so great to see these videos, what memories, hundres, maybe thousands of hours!!!

yes all my friends came over too!!

  • @Diskoboy1974 sucks that atari sewed them but that was atari back in the day sewing anything it could

  • @Diskoboy1974

OH heck yeah... This game blew away the other pac-man games at the time... Still today it's a fun game .. Very unique and challenging.... LOVE IT... Childhood memories

  • far superior game than atari's JUNK pac-man. too bad magnavox had to pull it for copyright infringement (an obvious attempt to keep atari on top).

    Odyssey2 rules. still fun.

  • I agree, it's a very fun Pac-Man clone. "Oil's Well" is a good Pac-Man clone too.

  • Oil's Well? I'm curious. What sysytem? any pc emu's available?

  • I'm sure emulators would have it, it's an old game.

The game was released mainly on computers, such as the 8-bit Atari Computers and the Commodore 64. I have one for Colecovision, but it's quite a rare cartridge.

  • I had (might still have) Oil's Well in my Commodore 64 game collection.

  • This was such a blatant ripoff of Pac-Man! I realized it even at the age of 9...although the guy down the block had an Atari and their Pac Man looked like total crap!

  • Comment removed

  • This game also had a cool editor mode so you could make your own mazes. Had a lot of fun with that.

  • the atariage homebrew guys remade pac man on 2600

  • I own a Magnawox odyssey 1 :)

  • dose it still work if so take care of that it is prob worth alot if not now but in the future :)

  • @looksern yeah yeah... we all have magnavox odyssey

  • @vovadi4 i dont '"-"

  • @looksern i own an xbox 360 slim 250gb w/ kinect and a ps3 slim 250 gb w/ ps move :P.

    But i aways wanted a oddessey :(

  • Comment removed

  • Though its a total rip off of Pac man its actually a nice twist on the concept. Atari should've been embarassed with their version of PacMan on the Atari 2600, the 5200 version was exellent though.

  • At least Atari did better with Ms Pac Man

  • k.c's crazy chase was better

  • how much is a magnavox oddesey 2?

  • Around $260.

  • ru fucking kidding me?

  • Go to a flea market

score mine with games included the stock market one for $15

  • Anyone know the name of the funky song he plays in the background?

  • I still play it!

  • This game sold like hotcakes for Magnavox, pissing off Atari, and probably forcing them to rush the 2600 version to market. Some carts have a yellow ghost instead of the blue one! WHY?!? Who knows?! This game has 3 bugs: the power pills can 'drop' down so low you can only eat them in vertical shafts, after 4-5 boards, you CAN go through the last pill without eating it if you move towards it, also the sound can/will cut out if you can sit somewhere long enough not moving...the game goes silent!!

  • Ed Averitt was a great game designer. There are many fun O2 titles, as I'm sure you are aware. They always came out with a very clean, fast (almost annoying, what with ONE life!) version of whatever was hot in the market. Like Alien Invaders Plus! (Space Inv rip). Man, that thing is fun- and tough! I love Pick Axe Pete, Attack of the Timelord. Good stuff.

  • Pac Man on the 2600 isn't horrible, as a stand-alone game. As an adaptation of the arcade game, it isn't good however.

  • Atari sued, because you could edit boards (to be like Pac Man), and the 2600 was so UNLIKE the arcade game, that Atari had problems with this game. Rather than try to make the game true to the arcade, they sued Magnavox. Well KC's Crazy Chase was the result, which is a good thing.

  • whatever problems atari had with its version, it had any right to sue, because kc munchkin is nothing but a blatant ripoff. magnavox even used a sprite that resembled that of pacman, let alone the overall style of the game. it's an obvious clone and since they apparently didn't pay a license fee, they brought that lawsuit upon themselves. funnily enough, magnavox sued atari for the exact same reasons earlier, when they released pong, which was just a ripoff, of a magnavox game

  • very astute here. true! atari pong ripped off the original creator, of which designed it for magnavox. what was his name? i can't recall him, but he's the legend himself for video games in the first place. he was a world war II vet that took the radar screen and transformed it into pong for something to do in the battlefield. that's the story behind the original "pong", as i understand.

  • I remember playing this back in the day. A few years ago, I was able to get a working Odyssey 2 system with about 10 games for $15. KC Munchkin was one of the games.

  • do you happen to have a reveiw of the voice module add on?

  • I remember being the only house with an Odyssey. Man just seeing the screen lit some old rooms in my brain.

  • Where did you get your Magnavox Odyssey 2?

  • I'm assuming either ebay or a local gamestore. I think he lives near a larger city where that shit can be found easier. But you could probably get one off Ebay.

  • id love to get a new one, but that is literally IMPOSSIBLE...

    i hate used stuff...

  • i scord two O2's used and they work great. One was $20! perfect condiditon. don't deny yourself the fun, bud! too easy too cheap! the O2 was built like a tank.

  • ill keep that in mind thanks

  • that game looks to pwn pacman!

  • Good Lord, I remember this game! This must've been over 20 years ago! I remember my sister & I spending countless hours with the Odyssey 2 system. We must've had over 50 games including K.C. Munchkin. Our game cartridge was defective because that little Munchkin guy was able to chomp through solid walls & blocks and the floating dots went through the lines when we reached the faster levels...LOL! Aaah, shitty old school technology...I miss it.

  • Yeah I just wanted to say (again)that this game looks incredible! I bought it at a local hobby store as it was only a few bucks and I wanted my own copy even though I don't own the system.

This game looks like serious fun and it is programable too which is impressive for the time it came out!

  • HAHAHA i remember this game in odyssey

  • Go intellaricov!

  • I like the MOVING dots!!

  • where can I get a Magnavox Odyssey 2

  • just got one on ebay..waiting for it to arrive in mail =D! excited i am!

  • learning u are yound padawan haha congrats

  • I have never heard of this game before. When I heard the name of this game and saw the way the characters look on screen I think I almost died from laughing!! just the name of the game KC MUNCHKIN HA HAAAAAA!!!!!

  • Too bad this game was discontinued. Maybe it's a ripoff, but Mr. Munchkin looks so funny and cute! I want more games and a T-shirt with him)))

  • some trivia on the name ...it was an inside joke reference at Magnavox (where I worked at the time) to the company President, Kenneth C. Menkin.

  • Cool game for the time.

  • ms.pacman went out wit K.C. munchkin before pacman

  • "hear" the voic, sorry, it's still early ;)

  • What the hell happened from the :uh oh noooo.." I remember that game had voice.

  • That would be K.C.'s Crasy Chase - however, you hade to have the voice modulator inserted in the system, to be able to he the "voice" - I still have my system, and this game still, but, sadly no modulator :(

  • Pretty nifty game. I like how the maze changes as you play that's pretty awesome. KC Munchkin getting high off pills ;P

  • kc MUNCH kin munch u get the munchies if youre high. He eats pills and gets chased by the demons of his highness

  • And I thought Pac Man was drug-induced.

  • COOL

  • cool

  • can you review monkey shine

  • Obviously similar to Pac-Man, but it surprises me that they actually got into legal trouble over it. It's different enough and adds some unique ideas to the genre. I really don't think they'd have a case today.

After Atari's lazy Pac-Man port Magnavox deserved to win some customers with this game. Too bad about the legal issues.

  • Is K.C.'s crazy chase next? by any chance.

  • KC And The Sunshine Band! hahahahaha :D time to get funked up!

  • That dose look like a rad game. Awesome review man.

  • Yeah Magnavox got sued pretty bad for releasing this game, hence why its sequel is so different. Try Conquest of the World!

  • thats not pacman at all u dont collect pellets u only collect power pellets

  • Wow, that makes it a LOT not-pacman, jesus christ.

  • Great Review, can't wait for part 2

  • You should look out for the sequel, K.C's Crazy Chase, whic is just as good if not better than the original.

That and it's also got voices, KC talks in the game!!!

  • Heck yeah! I love KC's Crazy Chase. It does have the voices but you have to have The Voice adapter.

  • I bet Damone can get us all front row tickets for "Munchers In Pergatory" if we pay him the right price, possibly KC And The Sunshine Band as well. :D

  • i wanted to get an odyssey 2 just to get kc munchkin. i loved pac man back in the day and the changes they made to that game always seemed really interesting.

  • wow, I actually remeber that game

  • nice!

  • this game is such a rip off lol

  • Glad to see that you are having fun with the O2. Can't wait for part two to see what kind of whacky mazes you create.

  • looking forward to the other game reviews on it

  • That looks like a game i can get addicted to :D

  • KC Munchkin!

  • third comment bitches!

  • yet not first comment?

  • makes perfect sense...

  • good job buddy

  • cool
