Hey thanks alot. Gotta love 311. The effect used mostly is the Q Tron envelope filter by Electro Harmonix. There is some delay in there as well, but its the Q Tron that sells the song.

Hi. I used a Q-Tron envelope filter, a couple of delay pedals, and reverb. The Bass player uses only a compressor pedal, and the drums are raw.

its is, but it isnt. Tim uses a Mutron envelope filter from musitronics. The creator of that pedal back in the 79's also created the Q Tron based on it. The Mutron is still a bit smoother I think....

Hi Zero... When I work with PookLowEnd, we usually record the tracks separately, and either he or I will send the other the unedited file of the playing... Then we will use programs like Sony Vegas or Pinnacle to edit the parts together, sometimes with a backtrack of the actual song, sometimes without. It takes some editing, but we can usually make it work, but since we are all playing to the same track it certainly makes the editing part a lot easier, then it is posted as a collaboration.
