I always find it funny how martial arts are fun and the training montages look magical but then when we meet on the cage or the ring, it's about taking each other's heads off.

But then again I do love it, And it's honesty and competition at its highest and purest form.

'The best martial art for keeping you safe would be: [name]'. But that also can't be filled in. Nearly every martial art has an effective self-defence component, just because the western schools tend not to teach them, doesnt say they dont exist. In the end it all requires a form of streetfighting. Dirty, below the belt, eyegouging tricks to down your opponent fast and hard. That form doesn't exist for a set number of arts, its just human.

I've practiced Taekwondo since 1997. Both WTF and traditional Taekwondo, Hapkido and Kouk Sun Do. My experience only tells me that comparing martial arts is very short sided. There are no bad martial arts only bad teachers which are reflected on ignorant students. Martial Arts have no rules, if they have any then they aren't martial arts. Instead keep an open mind and learn everything you can.

Most Tae Kwon Do fighters do have a ridiculous amount of cardio, So of course they won't last a minute, they'll last longer. A real martial artist, no matter what the martial learns to adapt to different situations. The first real skill a martial artist needs is common sense. I'm just going to point one more thing out, even UFC fighters have their flaws because in the streets there are no rules, there is no cage and gouging, groin kicks, stabbings do happen. Just because you do Thai Boxing

Its funny that so many people argue martial vs martial art. Every martial has its ups and downs, only arrogant and ignorant people try to compare all of them. If there really is ONE best martial art then everyone would take that one martial art. Don't compare a traditional martial art like Tae Kwon Do to a MMA because there is no comparison. MMA isn't a martial, its many martial arts.

Also you are watching too much Ultimate fight and MMA. There is a difference if you meet a guy without any martial art technique and a guy who is training his entire life.

I repeat: NOT a fighting style nor is it a form of any lineage to anything. JKD is an IDEA.
