@lovesbriardi- there is nothing about how that greyhound is behaving in this video that would indicate abuse. racing greyhounds are treated well because happy dogs are better racers than unhappy dogs. do you have a greyhound?
Cruel! In the US more than 50,000 greys are pulled off the track each year. About half are taken in by rescue organizations and fostered, then adopted out. The figures for the puppies with no racing aptitudes destroyed at breeding kennels is estimated to be about 100K/year. The kennel owners would rather destroy these puppies and do not work with rescue organizations because they take up space and feeding costs money. Fortunately many of the states that have greyhound racing have outlawed it.
Actual i think i can agree with you on that. I believe that if the dogs are well trained and looked after (e.i the ones in this video) you may or may not agree with that then racing can be a good experiance for the dogs. However it is the idiots who g in to the racing industry not knowing what they are doing that should be banned from racing. Along with the just plain cruel who like to call them selfs people..........
My great uncle once raced a greyhound. However when it was for retirement he took the dog home as a pet instead of putting him in a home. He then left the racing industry and got another job because he decided he didn't wanna race them any more.
I agree it's not all greyhound owners, but sadly it's also not a 'few'. I worked for the shelter and we got greyhounds all the time. Some were ex-racers, some were used for illegal hunting. And I think a lot of people know how these dogs are being treated in Spain where put them on fire, hang them, chop their legs off, etc.
Greyhounds don't have to be beaten for dog racing to be cruel. I'm sure my greys were treated according to the law. But like FAMILY? Please...
I wouldn't keep my family in a small cage, let out just 4 times a day (unless it is race day).
Humane people don't breed animals for profit then give them away they are no longer money makers (at the ripe old age of 2 to 5 when their life span is 12 to 14). My dog has muzzle scars all over her snout.
I am writing from Hungary. I wil adopt a Greyhound in this mounth. I wouldlike to get some help about where can I get a muzzlelike this blue in the video?
Someone can help me? I want to buy one for my dog name Nala. Can anyone help?
Absolutely..I have a rescued greyhound and he hates his muzzle. Not that we ever use it but we tried when we first got him for the cats...but amazingly, even though they told us he is not good with cats, he is great with them. He sees them as his housemates. After 5 months, now I am able to leave them alone at home. They even sunbath together in my bedroom :-)

@brucealantorres The problem isn't how they're treated when they're racers, it's what happens to them afterwards... =/

But you don't need a track for that where they have to wear a muzzle...

No animal should be treated as a commodity.
