There's also the steel wool and battery method. It's kinda cool. Take a 9 volt battery and some pulled apart steel wool and rub the steel wool against the battery to create a current. The wool will ignite and you can start a fire from there.
Great.. So when I am lost in the woods, I only need to find dryer lint, magnesium, flint, and a multitool to strike the flint. Awesome. I am confident I can survive now. Oh, can anyone tell me how to trap a wild clothes dryer? Or can you obtain the dryer lint from a more tame species of dryer?
Hate these videos already. Nobody wants to know how to start a fire with those stuff, like batteries, steel wool, etc. We want to know, in the case of an emergency, where all we can see is leaves, stones, wood, and water; how then to start a fire. I guess my garage will always be ib the area for me to get some steel or matches huh.
@blessedbranch Seriously man, I've been looking at all these videos on here and they're all the same. I want to know in case of an emergency, and I'm out in the middle of the woods, how do I get a fire going, assuming I have nothing. All these guys end up cheating..."I have a premade crafted bow and spindle kit here", "I have this steel tool, a rock, plus a beer can to put this wool I happen to have handy into." blah, blah, blah...
@veresta Check the man vs wild videos in western pacific and pacific island there should be one called the "pacific plow" and the "bow" rather anything that can cause a lot of friction is good.
this is stupid. i am talking about how to make a fire when you dont have anything. Instead of these stupid gadgets you could have brought a match or a lighter
This is stupid!!!.. It is just like you have matches cause you just get a substitute for it.. getting margarine instead of butter..... What if i don't have steel and magnesium? Watch videos made by scouts in the Philippines. They really suits for survival. Nothing amazing from this video..
There is a lot of flint just waiting to be found in nature, once you find it just smack it on other different rocks and see which ones spark. The native americans did not have steel and magnesium/flint bulls*** from the outdoor store.
Im still waiting

@JohnBScott86 I'm sure most cavemen carried around 9 volt batteries and magnesium to make fire.

That was a REALLY bad bow-drill demonstration. If he's spent so much time practice, why doesn't he just show how to do it.

SO what I'm hearing, if you've stupidly not brought matches, use other fire starting equipment. I would never have thought of that...

If you don't have matches you should gtfo of the woods.

He is doing this in ideal conditions...would love to see someone do this with wet wood. What if you don't have lint from your dryer or cotton?
What if you don't have your handy dandy steel and flint?
Notice he didn't even make a fire with the bowdrill.
FORMETOKNOWONLY 2 years ago
yes but when using the fire starter use the back of the knife, it works just as well and protects the blade
