By only using the GPS, I usually get approx 30 or so hours on a set of Duracell AAs. I can go on 3 or 4 8-10 hour hikes on the same set of batteries. On a 4-5 day hunt, where I use both Radio and GPS I usually put a fresh set in and hunt all week, though I always keep a fresh set on hand. I have found that once it starts flashing low battery, I usually get about 2-3 hours of life. If you ony use the GPS, or only use the radio you can extend battery life quite a bit.
so is the 110 good enough to have? or should i invest in the 120? i can find the 110's for about $50 cheaper than the 120. how long do the batteries last and how far do they reach?
For me, the cool green color and digital compass are worth the extra $50
There is also more Memory in the 120 I think
We have to do a good distance check, they have always worked for us, but we never get more than a few hundred yards away from each other on hikes, hunts, etc
The battery life depends on the batteries.. We like the fancy expencive energizer which have worked best for us (but they are $2.50 each)
Looking for one that is VHF is there one out there?

I know this vidoe is kind of old but you should do a review of the rinos and/or other handheld gps devices you have.

I totally agree, it's one of those things we have been wanting to do, and since then most of the crew has new GPS units too

What is geo caching?
pscans321 2 years ago
sort of like hiking, mixed with GPS and a treasure hunt all mixed together
There is a website that keeps track of where all these 'caches' are
You figure out one to look for, and get it's co-ordinates
Then you hike around looking for it with the GPS
Once you get right where it should be you have to look hard sometimes to find them since they are often hidden
Once you found it you leave a note in the log (and sometimes a trinket) and hide it again (same place) for the next guy
Great Fun

Do you guys get any cell phone reception at all up in the mountain?

Two out of three of us did for most of the day
Hiking around, we would go in and out of dead spots though
