I have studied much of Islam and Christianity but this video just reminded me of something very amazing.
We can pray to God wherever we are about anything. We don't have to pray at a specific time, recite a specific sura and look in a certain direction. We have direct access to our loving God.

You have to understand the context - that's how everyone at Speaker's Corner communicates. Also, his target group is radical Muslims and this is how they communicate, too. This isn't Jay's only venue. He also meets one on one, etc.

In the Koran there is hardly any context at all. It is jumble of verses telling you one thing and in the next it goes off in a tangent and tells you something completely different. The only real context i can recall is sura 4:153-160 where it specifies that the Jews did not crucify YESHUA. It neither denies or confirms the crucifixion
no religious text i have read has much context, in my opinion. but the koran and the bible have inspired ridiculous amounts of scholarship, so obviously some people can find it. to be fair, the bible was written by many authors over many centuries and so has more obvious inconsistencies and contradictions. but i don't see that as necessarily a bad point.

The Bible has 40 diferent authors who wrote 66 books over 1500 years and there are no glaring inconsistencies. I would say that is a much better track record than the Quran. What do the bibles say about women?>> 1 Peter 3:1, 1 Timothy 2:11-15, Colossians 3:18, Ephesians 5:22-24, 1 Corinthians 14:34-36, 1 Corinthians 11:3, Isaiah 3:12, Genesis 3:16. I have studied much of Islam and Christianity but this video just reminded me of something very amazing.
We can pray to God wherever we are about anything. We don't have to pray at a specific time, recite a specific sura and look in a certain direction. We have direct access to our loving God.
I hope to one day meet Jay and see a debate of his as following his progress on youtube is amazing.

Love isn't always wimpy. Jesus physically drove the moneychangers out of the Temple. I'm sure he wasn't gentle about it. Who says debating has to be gentle? Paul preached and debated and got thrown into jail for it. He was always forceful and bold. Five Muslims converted to Jesus through Jay's preaching in the past few months. Their names cannot be shared for security issues - their Muslim relatives aren't usually happy about their conversion and their lives are at stake.

muslims dont have versions of the arabic Quran. there are translations but none is judged as the same as the Arabic Quran. all sects are having same arabic Quran. but catholic bibles have 7 chapter more that protestant bibles. syrian orthodox christians have saint thomas gospels but all other christians say those are herecies. so many varriations. bibles not only varry in translations they varry in having more or less chapters.

In the Koran there is hardly any context at all. It is jumble of verses telling you one thing and in the next it goes off in a tangent and tells you something completely different. The only real context i can recall is sura 4:153-160 where it specifies that the Jews did not crucify YESHUA. It neither denies or confirms the crucifixion

no religious text i have read has much context, in my opinion. but the koran and the bible have inspired ridiculous amounts of scholarship, so obviously some people can find it. to be fair, the bible was written by many authors over many centuries and so has more obvious inconsistencies and contradictions. but i don't see that as necessarily a bad point.

obviously any writer, even the deity-inspired will do so in such a way to promote his/her own agenda. it is a question of faith whether you say that a religious text is truthful and another is rubbish. the koran as a text makes no bones about where it is derived from. i think that biblical inaccuracies are good because they allow for much reinterpretation, but to the religiously-minded the koran as a text benefits from appearing more cogent.

Cogent??? A book that is full of mumbo jumbo written by a perfect & omniescent God??? A God who deceives. If you consider that book to be "cogent", then why does that book neither denies nor confirms the the death and resurrection of Yeshua(the cornerstone of christian belief) (Sura 4:157). Why do muslims damn me when I challenge them? On what basis does it claim to be the " scriptural authority" on the life of Yeshua, when it hardly even talks about HIM.

it's a shame that you are damned when you challenge muslims. in my experience, the muslims i have met have been engaging, open-minded and raise interesting scholarly points. sadly, not everyone is like that.
to me, both bible and koran are filled with mumbo jumbo. muslims (should) believe in yeshua as a prophet, but what does his messianic status have to do with the koran as a text? unless you believe that he is the messiah, that is, then obviously the koran won't have any authority.

The Bible has 40 diferent authors who wrote 66 books over 1500 years and there are no glaring inconsistencies. I would say that is a much better track record than the Quran. One author over what 60 years, not many checks and balances on that one as we see today in the confusion over even which branch of Islam is the right one????

no glaring inconsistencies? there are two different versions of the creation myth alone! not to mention: jesus saying love thy neighbour, whilst st paul says that 'man is the head of woman' and that women should shut up and keep house. very few historical records of jesus make for a poor historical text, sadly. not to mention all the gnostic gospels which were deemed 'unworthy' of being in the bible we have today.
as for denominations... catholic vs protestant, episcopalian vs orthodox, etc...

So what is inconsistent in the two accounts in Genesis? ...chapter and verse please....and what has Love your neighbour got to do with being inconsistent with Paul's writings. There is more documented evidence for the Life of Jesus than for the writings of Shakespeare!

The talmud is to the Jews what the Hadiths are to the Muslims - man made tarditions many of which are incorrectly based man made perceptions on how they interprete the Torah and Quran. Also there is hardly any sura that has a contextual sura.

Its 50/50. Either G-d exists or not. You can't prove his non existence. We can't prove he does. You have no evidence to support your claim. Believers DO. That evidence is the moral values we have today. Morals didn't just come from nowhere. You have no proof of that. Morals were established, as documented, 4 to 5 k years ago.Although there is no absolute proof of this, the evidence is strong enough to be documented going back 1000's of years. As for non existence, well where is the evidence?

Actually it is not 50/50...as more evidence accumulates scientifically the 50% of god existing seems to diminish somewhat. Its probably about 70/30 in favour of god not existing.
As for your so called 'evidence' - a book written 2000 years ago (or less) is not evidence. Empirical fact is - of which religion has very few indeed.
As for morals, evidence for this dates back much further than you suggest - way before any of the 'modern' religions.

When I see the fabric of British society, (the once proud family life) crumbling, I really do see us going back to the morals of the 'stone' age. We would be a better society if our morals were based on Biblical teachings. If you have a problem with that, I'd be interested to know.

Now, as for prooving non existence - what nonsense. If I told you there was a large purple elephant which lived in-between the rings of Saturn you would laugh. Where is the evidence against the purple elephant? Well, we apply scientific principals, and the purple elephant does not exist - similarly we apply scientific principals and it tells us that a lot of religion is nonsense.
God lives in the gaps which get smaller as each day passes.

Good - because unless you applied the scientific method you would be wasting your time. I never said I could 100% disprove the existence of God, I merely stated as time progresses it becomes more likely that God does not exist.

it is not the role of science to disprove god's existence, it is the onus on the faithful to prove that it does exist. as bertrand russel said, if he were to assert that there was a teapot orbiting earth, it's up to him to prove it, not others to disprove it.
personally, after rereading some of the brainwashed, intolerant, hatred-filled comments of the faithful, willing as they are to kill in the name of their 'faith', i am happy in my agnostic bubble.

Well, whether onus or not, if he can prove a teapot is orbiting the earth, then there would be no need to disprove it.
On the other hand if he could disprove God's existence he would only be too happy to do that without resorting to such excuses.
I see nothing wrong in being agnostic inasmuch I see no wrong in believing.

Try reading the 'Lancet' British medical journal research of about a year ago. Will try to get the article referenced. Actually showed that those who worship an outside creator or whatever, had a better capacity to handle life situations and also that they had a longer life expectancy of a better quality. Reading Gulag Archipelego could help you on the prisoner reference.

My point is that atheism does not cause mental problems and it does not motivate people towards criminal behaviour as you seemed to suggest.
A belief in a god and an afterlife may well help some people, especially those who are afraid of death however that does not mean that these things are true.

Have you heard of Mao Tse Tung or Josef Stalin? If you are hailing the athiest and applauding their mental state as above normal, then you may not be as rational in making conclusions as I first thought!
