Imported cars suck in my opinion. For the same price as the wrx you could have gotten a 5.0 mustang with 412hp (and the mustang isnt that much heavier) 5.0 will walk over both those cars...and it will get 26mpg :)
Alot of the VW fanboys don't realize that the GTI is not a race car. They are nice cars for what they are. A sporty, nice , nimble car. Great for a daily driver. But if you want to be fast on the street I would look into buying something else. I have an srt-4 for when I wanna race and I'm thinking of picking up a 2012 GTI for a nice daily.
lets wrap it up. wrx is faster off the line & on a roll (not by much on the roll). GTi is faster on a track. WRX has more HP than the GTi. I love both cars but I bought a 2011 GTi just because i love it more :D feels better to drive tbh. Also, anyone that hasn't driven DSG will say its shit, I think it is amazing. But it will always be a never ending argument.

From a roll, the WRX is not really that great. Takes too long to get the boost up. The only way to really get it to move is to hold the clutch down and rev it up to 5500+ RPM, then keep it above 5000 as you let the clutch out. Since that wears a lot on the clutch, I wouldn't recommend doing that too often. But, if done right, I can get my stock 2010 to go from 40-80 in a few seconds.

I LOVED my GTi, and I test drive the 2010 before I bought a 2010 WRX. Honestly if you drove both of them you would understand they are not even meant to be compared performance wise. [(0-60) WRX : 4.7 GTi: 6.7] The GTi is awesome, don't get me wrong. But, the WRX, STI, EVO all run 0-60 under 5 seconds.
Had an 06 WRX stage 3 and a 07 STi stage 2 and now own a 10 GTI. And I would rather own a GTI over a 08-09-10 WRX/STI any day. Subaru has ruined their models with teenage racer boy styling.
I too also have no problem with WRX in my area though.. and I drive a DSG...

These both look stock. The only thing I dont believe is 210whp, it should be 210 or so to the crank. Those 210 dyno numbers arent real dynoes. Those are used for tuning. A mustang dyno is a true dyno. Numbers should be more like 170 to 180whp.

@dodiox stock gti puts down ~210 to the wheels, stock wrx puts ~230 to the wheels. The Gti weights about 100 pounds less. This race would be a different story from a launch but from a roll like this the awd just slows a wrx down with the extra drivetrain loss.
Uhm.... a GTI has 200 HP stock... to the crank. How you managed to say it has 210HP to the wheels is beyond me. The WRX has 265HP and then you said 230 to the wheels, Which makes more sense.

Not saying I don't believe what you said but all I'm saying is that dyno figures are only for comparison purposes from before and after a mod(s). Considering as well both before and after dyno runs are done at the same shop. Another thing, a car that pumps out 200hp at the crank will not make MORE @ the wheels **sigh...**
@nobananaman wrong. I am a GTI owner and absolutely love the thing, but stock it has 175 WHP (wheel horsepower) and 200 crank on 93 octane. I had mine dynod stock, after APR stage 1, and after APR stage 2+. Stock is 175 WHP, stage 1 is 218 WHP. theres no way your "stock" dyno was 210.
@streetsurfer92 I'm sorry to hear those were the figures you got. I definitely got ~200 stock, uncorrected on a dynojet dyno and with 93 octane in the tank. There's a good chance your conditions were drastically different yielding the results you have (different dyno too probably). @29ryan49 multiple sources and real owners all over the states have dyno proof that a stock MK6 will put up to 210whp. Stage 1 puts down ~235.
The MK6 GTI were very under-rated, just like the 09 WRX which puts down about 240whp, while the 09 STI puts down 230whp (claimed to have 305crank hp).
So somehow the GTI that has the same engine as stuff like the GLI and Audi A3 has 200HP and 207 trq. So you're telling me all these cars make 200/207 to the wheels and not to the crank.

not bad at all from the Gti. i too own an 09 wrx. and this was a decent effort. the gap would have been much wider if the 09 kept the revs up properly. the gti's power delivery is so smooth and it has so much less lag than the 09 with its big VF52. thumbs up to both of you.
ive never raced a new gti in my 09 wrx when i was stock, but i raced one last week and im stage 2 in my wrx....talk about a raping haha. it was hilarious. i mean stock for stock the wrx is so much faster. the car and driver mag with the ms3, wrx, gti and cobalt ss was what made me buy the wrx, such a great car for the money

@dodiox I disagree having driven both car multiple times. I could see this happening from a roll. From a dig the wrx would kill the gti if the wrx driver knows how to launch it...
I see a roll race pretty close maybe with a slight edge to the wrx.
I am not biased at all. In fact I like the wrx more and am an owner of a 2011 5.0.

Guess what? Your WRX has to run that power through three differentials and across five drive shafts, one of which is a big heavy mofo that's as long as the car. The GTI doesn't have to fuck around with all that. Power efficiency wins.
Reality: GTI has 200whp stock, WRX has 220whp stock. GTI has less weight, less inertia, stronger chassis, and 6 speed, that's why it wins.

not bad at all from the Gti. i too own an 09 wrx. and this was a decent effort. the gap would have been much wider if the 09 kept the revs up properly. the gti's power delivery is so smooth and it has so much less lag than the 09 with its big VF52. thumbs up to both of you.

ive never raced a new gti in my 09 wrx when i was stock, but i raced one last week and im stage 2 in my wrx....talk about a raping haha. it was hilarious. i mean stock for stock the wrx is so much faster. the car and driver mag with the ms3, wrx, gti and cobalt ss was what made me buy the wrx, such a great car for the money
