You have to stop living with your opinions. These dolphins have no idea they are trapped in prisons! As long as they have food, shelter, and love, I really don't think they care. In jails/prisons, you don't get love. Not to mention the food is shit, AND you barley get any shelter at all. You really need to go look these things up.
Dolphins usually swim 100 miles a day in the wild. This pool is much too small. They will never get enough exercise. Plus, live fish is more nutritious than dead fish. You are the stupid one. Get your facts straight.
In the Sea World tanks, which are much better than this swimming pool in Russia, dolphins would have to swim 500 times to get ten miles in. It's just not big enough. Anyway, you talk about dolphins as if they are stupid. They aren't. They are fully aware that they are stuck. And yes, captivity DOES kill. Dolphins will live much longer in the wild.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dolphins that are born in those pools have no idea they are "confined." To you maybe you know, but if you were born in a box, and knew NOTHING else, then you would not consider yourself confined.
The dolphins really don't care if they are in a swimming pool or SeaWorld tank..as long as they can swim freely. I use to live in a REALLY small house and it was my first house, lived their for 11 years. I had the chance to move to a huge house and I chose the small house over the big one.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
What I am trying to say is..your wrong. You think just because a wild dolphin can swim a straight line for boring after boring day on end, its no different than swimming in a circle boring day after day..as long as these animals are cared and loved, have food, and are safe from predators. THEY DON'T CARE! Being wild is no different than captive. A captive dolphin can do whatever they please, and so can a wild one. Either way, they still get fed, loved by the trainers, and receive full vet care
You can't necassarily say what you think is a fact. How do you know if dolphins don't care or not? You're not a dolphin, or to read a dolphin's mind. Instead of insulting others, how about you respect other opinions.
Wild dolphins who have lived in the wild do know if they are confined or not. Dolphins aren't that stupid and how do you know if they don't mind or not? That's your opinion. Several dolphin species commit suicide shortly after being in captivity. If you compare that tank to their home, obviously they would know which one is their true home because there would be plants, [depending where they lived] coral, and even sand. That tank has nothing in there, what do you expect?
Just because you THINK you have similarities with the dolphins, doesn't mean you are right. Just like humans, everyone has different personalities. Also, there is a difference if they know they're confined or not. Look at that pool, sheltered inside a building while they were wild. Do you think seeing several light bulbs and the same coloured boring sky would be the world? I don't think so.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Captivty doesn't kill. Well guess what stupid, THE WILD KILLS TOO! Every living thing dies because of something. And Iv never heard of a disease caused by captivity. Animals and people die everyday. Do people in jail die, and if they do, do you say PRISON KILLS?! Um no. You don't. Look at a list of CAUSES OF DEATH on a deceased animal page. Being confined in an area is not one of those reasons. Stop talking ragtime.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
actually studies now confirm that dolphins under human care actually live longer than those out in the wild. the average life for an atlantic bottlenose dolphin in the wild is about 25 to 30 years. they have natural predators, shark and killer whales as well as their number one threat: humans. pollution in their environment can cause harm to them.
dolphins under human care on the other hand, have the best nutrition, great medical care, and can live up to their 40s and 50s.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Indeed. Besides, the ocean doesn't really offer much anyway - it's like one big dull straight highway.. you see basically the same thing no matter where you go, unless you travel to different coasts, and how long can you keep that up anyway? So I don't think dolphins get bored very easily anyway so their 'confinement' won't cause much harm. They are celebrities, everyone loves them, gives them applause, they don't have to worry about food, clothing, apartment, loneliness, status, commuting..
I think that pool is for dolphins that are having a baby. There might be a bigger pool for the dolphins that are not. Like in Sea World, they have a smaller and less deep tank so the babys cant swim to far down and drown.
How is it wrong? The dolphins don't know they are in a pool? They are taken care of well aren't they? Isen't that what should matter? Yeah...living your life in an indoor pool may suck..but that doesn't mean the dolphins are unhappy.
Treated like what? The dolphins trainers spend incredible amounts of time with the animals giving them everything they need. This is not cruel. Maybe if we were a little bit more considerate about how we pollute, destroy, and fish away most of their habitat this wouldn't be an option.
@Destro26 giving them everything they need! what they need is 2 be in the wild with their real family groups these trainers dont no shit! "they can't hear our voices" dolphins have incredible hearing! and yes this is very cruel do you evan know how those dolphins came 2 be in those swimming pools no i bet you dont!
@Destro26 Did you know aquariums give dolphins medication for ulcers? Keeping an intelligent animal in such stressful situations where it needs medication for ulcers is cruel. Not to mention that many aquariums support the mass murder of dolphins by buying them from places that slaughter thousands every year. Most dolphins captured for aquariums are young females. During capture they get the privilage of seeing and hearing their entire family be murdered. How's that for cruel. huh?
@Destro26 not cruel?there has been records of dolphins purposly killing them selfs because of the conditions they were in?and it would be MUCH better for them to die in the wild because this is just a death sentence in its self ,their little ''positive rewards'' thing that use to teach the dolphins tricks is just another term for ''food deprevation'' your discusting for sayin its not cruel....and trust me a 25/25 6ft deep swimming pool isnt every thing they need

PEOPLE ARE SO MEAN!!! They keep these poor animals in cages. ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS TO!!!! How would humans like to be treated that way????? HUH!!!WHAT KNOW!!!!
Dolphins don't belong in small, barren concrete pools - they should be free in the wild. Dolphins in the wild live on average 35-50 years, while killer whales live 50-90 years. In captivity, dolphins live a mere 5-8 years, while killer whales only live 15. These animals have brains 5 times the size of our own; they shouldn't be forced to be our circus clowns!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
How long are these intelligent beings living in captivity, compared to in the wild? Exactly.
There are several wild orcas in the Southern Resident community of the USA alone that are over the age of 60 and two or three of them are nearing the age of 90. In captivity, the oldest orca EVER was/is 42 years old. She is a very rare exception though.
Also, you have to admit, that is an extremely pathetic looking "tank." More like a swimming pool.. looks shallow, too. What fun for a dolphin!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think that actually IS a swimming pool :( and orcas live quite a bit shorter on average than in the wild. Look how many orcas have died this and last year. It's very sad. You say 25-30 years, coolillboi, but orcas can live so much longer and 30 years is actually short for them.
Orcass may live up to 20-25 years in CAPTIVITY, but in wild they reach an age of 60-80 years or even more in some cases. Dolphin dont reach that age very often they use to die around age 8-10, easy to look up!
Are you stupid? Do you even know what barren means? "bare: providing no shelter or sustenance." lol. You have got to be kidding me. These are indoor pools! How could there be no shelter when the damn pool is INDOORS?! AND dolphins in captivity can live to be 50 years old! How are you getting 8?! This tank may be a swimming pool, but these animals are taken care of very well. Some captive dolphins live to be in their 60's!! You have got to stop living in the past Ms. Russ Rector.
mygood. You belive what trainers tells u I see. This is a fishbowl just like lolitas tank. You full of b-shit, dolphins in captivity dont reach that age u tell. My good!
How are they taken care of when they dont got much space to turn around in and it looks like my local swingpool, no rocks and other things. Open your eyes!
olle8804, you're being exposed to exaggerated information, obviously. We are in an era where captive bottlenose dolphins are reaching well up into their 30s, 40s and 50s--and many that are outliving their wild counterparts. Today, calf mortality in the wild (50% within the first year) is much higher than that of captivity.
Just because they live in an indoor tank does not mean they are not taken care of. You're being biased and close-minded.
have trainers told you that or is that something you truly deeply know?
So explain then how they take care of this animals. They take them kicking and screaming from their familis in the wild. They live in small tank no toys to play with such as rocks, sea grass etc. They are held inside. Are that well taken care of. In russia they still capture whales in wild! so think again1
YES, they were captured. YES, many have died. But the fact that is undeniable no matter what "side" you are on, is that the trainers care deeply for their animals and put a lot of effort into taking care of them. If you would actually do your homework, you would find that MOST of the dolphins in captivity right now were born there. Regardless of who was born and who was captured, they are still given plenty of care and affection from their caretakers.
just because they were captured from the wild does not mean they are not taken care of. And what about the captive-borns? It's amusing how you are talking like you think you know more about this subject than anyone else in the world.
I dont think I know more about this subject, but I think you think so. I just saying that keeping this animals in captivity is wrong, thats my oppinion. And just keeping them in small indoor pools are also wrong. you think diffrent then me and I cant understand why,
So you think its okay to captive animals from the wild? In russia asia and ptherp laces around the world they still capture whales from wild!

Please explain what you mean. Dolphinariums are certainly 100% shark-free, oil-pollution-free, fishnet-free and so on. Dolphins are completely SAFE there. I think if I had to choose between being a cocoa plantasion worker with only a few hours of sleep every day and practically no pay and doing tricks for two hours every day, I would very gladly choose the dolphin's life. Sure their lives could be better, but they are better in the dolphinariums than they would be in the sea for so many reasons
Captivity is NOT safe from another set of dangers. [including nets, and fire. and even financial fault] You may think whatever you want, but lock itself somewhere, for even few months, and watch results ... your rich inner life will help you only to some degree.
For historical example, look for
67.55.50.201/lilly/womandolph12x.html
reality IS reality, not our imagination, nor something we want to believe. Various kinds of deprivation will play their role, anyway. Try@yourself.
@Lutanamo Do you really prefer living in a small room all your life than being free? Being deprived of food and forced to do tricks for dead food? Never get to run as fast as you could as Dolphins love to swim fast and long distance. They love to surf and dive deep. They could do NONE of these in captivities!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I don't see why your comment is rated thumbs down. You're right, they shouldn't be in concrete pools. However I don't think all current captive orcas should be released, I don't think they'll survive. They are too dependent on humans. We can't change it now..maybe only if they would stop breeding them in captivity...but well, they bring in the big bugs...:( There's nothing there could be done that to care for the captives as good as we can, and treat them well.
maybe we cant. But what we can do is stop the breeding, let the orcas live a life close to the wild. ech them how to hunt their own food, less contact with humans, exapnd the tanks, stop with the shows. Let them hunt their own food. let them live a life close to the wild life. that is more educational then see them jump hihg in the air!
Yeah, try to stop a 10,000 pound animal from having sex and refuse them the human affection they have known all of their lives. There's a brilliant idea.
I'm not stupid. I know how cetaceans are AI'd. However you're making yourself look really uneducated on this subject by thinking they are AI'd most of the time, which is the complete opposite. In most cases the births are a result of natural matings. How do you explain that only 2 of the world's captive orcas were born from AI?
No, see, the problem is that you are getting your "informaton" from either anti-captivity/untrue sources or you're just making this kind of stuff up to support your opinions. It's blatantly obvious to people who know the truth. Marine park regulars, people who work/have worked there, and others who research captive information from credible sources know what they're talking about. You, don't.
So are you denying the fact that 2 of the worldwide captive orcas are born from AI?

ha who is stupid, I just say what I think and I am stupid for that? Am I stupid beacuse I look at both side of a problem ´before picking side? Pneumonia kills evry animal in captivity? Yes often the trainers say its that curse why they died, halyn, taku, ku much much more. I dont belive that....some case yes, every case no!
Captivity kills, they got it in the small fishbowls so yes captivity kills!

Yes.
And by the way, read over your comment before you type it, because you have a load of spelling and grammar mistakes. Which makes you sound even more stupid.
actually there have been experiments and dolphins which have never even lived in the wild knew how to use their echolocation and caught wild live salmon in their tanks when it was put in there. anyway, if they are able to teach them all those stupid, unnatural tricks then they are able to teach them how to hunt for their food in the wild.

No
Just because they are in a pool, doesn't mean they can't get enough exercise.
WHO SAYS THEY CAN'T SWIM 100 MILES IN THE TANK? GOING AROUND AND AROUND? SAME THING AS A STRAIGHT LINE.
YOU are the stupid one.
RingneckDoveFan 3 years ago
In the Sea World tanks, which are much better than this swimming pool in Russia, dolphins would have to swim 500 times to get ten miles in. It's just not big enough. Anyway, you talk about dolphins as if they are stupid. They aren't. They are fully aware that they are stuck. And yes, captivity DOES kill. Dolphins will live much longer in the wild.

RingneckDoveFan 3 years ago
You can't necassarily say what you think is a fact. How do you know if dolphins don't care or not? You're not a dolphin, or to read a dolphin's mind. Instead of insulting others, how about you respect other opinions.
LoveforOrkid 2 years ago
Wild dolphins who have lived in the wild do know if they are confined or not. Dolphins aren't that stupid and how do you know if they don't mind or not? That's your opinion. Several dolphin species commit suicide shortly after being in captivity. If you compare that tank to their home, obviously they would know which one is their true home because there would be plants, [depending where they lived] coral, and even sand. That tank has nothing in there, what do you expect?
LoveforOrkid 2 years ago 2
Just because you THINK you have similarities with the dolphins, doesn't mean you are right. Just like humans, everyone has different personalities. Also, there is a difference if they know they're confined or not. Look at that pool, sheltered inside a building while they were wild. Do you think seeing several light bulbs and the same coloured boring sky would be the world? I don't think so.

Stop talking ragtime.

actually studies now confirm that dolphins under human care actually live longer than those out in the wild. the average life for an atlantic bottlenose dolphin in the wild is about 25 to 30 years. they have natural predators, shark and killer whales as well as their number one threat: humans. pollution in their environment can cause harm to them.
dolphins under human care on the other hand, have the best nutrition, great medical care, and can live up to their 40s and 50s.

Lutanamo 2 years ago
I think that pool is for dolphins that are having a baby. There might be a bigger pool for the dolphins that are not. Like in Sea World, they have a smaller and less deep tank so the babys cant swim to far down and drown.

Regardless of how they're treated by their trainers, they should absolutely not be held in an olympic INDOOR pool. Wrong.

How is it wrong? The dolphins don't know they are in a pool? They are taken care of well aren't they? Isen't that what should matter? Yeah...living your life in an indoor pool may suck..but that doesn't mean the dolphins are unhappy.

how can people say these dolphins get treated bad... they eat better then i do!
anex05 3 years ago 2
Treated like what? The dolphins trainers spend incredible amounts of time with the animals giving them everything they need. This is not cruel. Maybe if we were a little bit more considerate about how we pollute, destroy, and fish away most of their habitat this wouldn't be an option.
Destro26 3 years ago 6
@Destro26 giving them everything they need! what they need is 2 be in the wild with their real family groups these trainers dont no shit! "they can't hear our voices" dolphins have incredible hearing! and yes this is very cruel do you evan know how those dolphins came 2 be in those swimming pools no i bet you dont!
xxfab08xx 1 year ago
@Destro26 Did you know aquariums give dolphins medication for ulcers? Keeping an intelligent animal in such stressful situations where it needs medication for ulcers is cruel. Not to mention that many aquariums support the mass murder of dolphins by buying them from places that slaughter thousands every year. Most dolphins captured for aquariums are young females. During capture they get the privilage of seeing and hearing their entire family be murdered. How's that for cruel. huh?
ShadowedKnight 1 year ago
@Destro26 not cruel?there has been records of dolphins purposly killing them selfs because of the conditions they were in?and it would be MUCH better for them to die in the wild because this is just a death sentence in its self ,their little ''positive rewards'' thing that use to teach the dolphins tricks is just another term for ''food deprevation'' your discusting for sayin its not cruel....and trust me a 25/25 6ft deep swimming pool isnt every thing they need

What fun for a dolphin!
peepchick101 3 years ago

I think that actually IS a swimming pool :( and orcas live quite a bit shorter on average than in the wild. Look how many orcas have died this and last year. It's very sad. You say 25-30 years, coolillboi, but orcas can live so much longer and 30 years is actually short for them.
majaorca100 3 years ago
it's seems like when you don't fully agree with captivity, you always get many 'thumbs down'...that's stupid.
majaorca100 3 years ago 2
Captivity is wrong. You should be held in a swimming pool and see how much you like it.
missnicky20 3 years ago
Orcass may live up to 20-25 years in CAPTIVITY, but in wild they reach an age of 60-80 years or even more in some cases. Dolphin dont reach that age very often they use to die around age 8-10, easy to look up!
olle8804 3 years ago
Are you stupid? Do you even know what barren means? "bare: providing no shelter or sustenance." lol. You have got to be kidding me. These are indoor pools! How could there be no shelter when the damn pool is INDOORS?! AND dolphins in captivity can live to be 50 years old! How are you getting 8?! This tank may be a swimming pool, but these animals are taken care of very well. Some captive dolphins live to be in their 60's!! You have got to stop living in the past Ms. Russ Rector.
OrkidFan101 3 years ago 5
Open your eyes!
olle8804 3 years ago
olle8804, you're being exposed to exaggerated information, obviously.
Dolphinatheart606 3 years ago 2
have trainers told you that or is that something you truly deeply know?
So explain then how they take care of this animals. They take them kicking and screaming from their familis in the wild. They live in small tank no toys to play with such as rocks, sea grass etc. They are held inside. Are that well taken care of. In russia they still capture whales in wild! so think again1
olle8804 3 years ago
YES, they were captured. YES, many have died. But the fact that is undeniable no matter what "side" you are on, is that the trainers care deeply for their animals and put a lot of effort into taking care of them. If you would actually do your homework, you would find that MOST of the dolphins in captivity right now were born there. Regardless of who was born and who was captured, they are still given plenty of care and affection from their caretakers.
Dolphinatheart606 3 years ago 3
just because they were captured from the wild does not mean they are not taken care of. And what about the captive-borns? It's amusing how you are talking like you think you know more about this subject than anyone else in the world.
Dolphinatheart606 3 years ago

Re: dangers.
Captivity is NOT safe from another set of dangers. [including nets, and fire. and even financial fault] You may think whatever you want, but lock itself somewhere, for even few months, and watch results ... your rich inner life will help you only to some degree.
For historical example, look for

reality IS reality, not our imagination, nor something we want to believe.

I don't see why your comment is rated thumbs down. You're right, they shouldn't be in concrete pools. However I don't think all current captive orcas should be released, I don't think they'll survive. They are too dependent on humans. We can't change it now..maybe only if they would stop breeding them in captivity...but well, they bring in the big bugs...:( There's nothing there could be done that to care for the captives as good as we can, and treat them well.
majaorca100 3 years ago
maybe we cant. But what we can do is stop the breeding, let the orcas live a life close to the wild. ech them how to hunt their own food, less contact with humans, exapnd the tanks, stop with the shows. Let them hunt their own food. let them live a life close to the wild life. that is more educational then see them jump hihg in the air!
olle8804 3 years ago
Yeah, try to stop a 10,000 pound animal from having sex and refuse them the human affection they have known all of their lives. There's a brilliant idea.

olle8804 3 years ago

OrkidForever 3 years ago 5
yes, not in many cases. humans often take sperm from the male and inject to the female. Look it up!
olle8804 3 years ago
I'm not stupid. I know how cetaceans are AI'd. However you're making yourself look really uneducated on this subject by thinking they are AI'd most of the time, which is the complete opposite. In most cases the births are a result of natural matings. How do you explain that only 2 of the world's captive orcas were born from AI?
OrkidForever 3 years ago 3
I have heard diffrent information. And what I have heard its not so often that they mate.
We have looked on diffrent informaition, the trainers onlt know, and we dont know if they talking the truth or if they lie!
Is up to us to belive what we want to belive,
olle8804 3 years ago
No, see, the problem is that you are getting your "informaton" from either anti-captivity/untrue sources or you're just making this kind of stuff up to support your opinions. It's blatantly obvious to people who know the truth. Marine park regulars, people who work/have worked there, and others who research captive information from credible sources know what they're talking about. You, don't.
So are you denying the fact that 2 of the worldwide captive orcas are born from AI?
