  • it was East Pakistan after the partition in 1948.. the people were oppressed by the powers of West Pakistan.. When the cyclone hit in 1970 it killed some 400,000, and there was little response from the government which resulted in a revolt from the people, and led to a civil war, which led to the liberation of east pakistan to become Bangladesh, and independent soveriegn state of it's own.

  • I remember rushing to buy this thematically timeless song when it came out circa 1971. Harrison's vocal might have sounded whimsical yet it was emotionally charged, unique to him. It was this that lent sincerity to his singing. I never tire of listening to this song partly because it also evokes memories of impatiently awaiting each solo Beatle release at the time.

    Thanks for posting this underated Harrison gem.
