Apparently Procol Harum was more popular in Holland than in their native country. Quite rightly so hit the Dutch charts in 1968. In fact PH is still represented by 5 songs in the annual " All time Top 2000" which is broadcasted every year between Christmas and New Year on Dutch Radio 2. Conquistador, Homburg, Salty Dog, Grand Hotel (Top 1000) and of course Whither Shade of Pale (Top 20) . Also Brooker' s solohit No more fear of Flying made it to the top 2000 every now and than.
Great video, underrated song, enigmatic lyrics. Umm ... I know bands rip off each other all the time, but the organ riff from 1.27 on, and at the end is very reminiscent of Arthur Alexander's 'Anna (Go To Him)' covered by the Beatles on the Please Please Me album.
RIP B.J. Wilson

brooker's vocal, wilson's drums: doesn't get much better than that combination.
