Although I personally believe in the right of every woman to have the final say when it comes to her own life and body, we were discussing the effects of keeping a child conceived out of rape. You seem to be inferring that women who are VICTIMS of rape somehow brought it on themselves or are promiscuous. This is not necessarily, and often is not the case. And even if it is, it is NEVER a womans fault, or a mans for that matter, if he or she is raped.

As a woman, I cannot imagine going through the trauma of rape, and then being forced to alter my whole life, and harbor that child inside me for nine months. Abortion isn't an evil plot to destroy the "race" of fetuses. If you apply the term genocide to everything it renders the term meaningless.
The evilness of the act doesn't change as a result of that. If I called it 'mass killing' rather than 'genocide' it doesn't become any better; it is still just as bad. The state legalized the killing of millions of people belonging to a specific group, and that isn't better than if the state killed them for the purpose of destroying that group. If you think abortion's murder, which I don't think it is, the term genocide still doesn't apply. One bad thing isn't a synonym for another bad thing. Genocide has a very specific meaning.
Fetuses are all at a certain stage of development, if that can be called a "group". They cannot communicate with each other, they can't gather with each other, and have no concept of race, religion or language.

I am what I guess you could call an abortion moderate. In Canada there are no standing laws on abortion, it is not regulated by the law, but by individual hospitals and their policies.
I do believe that abortion is murder, and is very wrong and is by no means a "human right" or it would have been natural to do so long ago. However, being possible today, I do accept it in grave circumstances, like rape, or when the mother's life is at risk.

Morgentaler has nothing to do with *saving* women's lives, he has harmed womens lives and densenstized women, but it has backfired. Hospitals have been authorized to deal with life threatening pregnancies for decades, formally legal since 1968. Moregnetaler in effect proclaimed he only did this so that babies would not grow up to abuse or harm people. (due to his experience in concentration camp and losing his family). No one will believe this when birth control has been around for decades.

They are very concerned about Canadian liberalism that would allow homosexual marriage (which would be fine to let them stay common law) as well they are highly concerned about abortion. Although I personally believe in the right of every woman to have the final say when it comes to her own life and body, we were discussing the effects of keeping a child conceived out of rape. You seem to be inferring that women who are VICTIMS of rape somehow brought it on themselves or are promiscuous. This is not necessarily, and often is not the case. I would not deny that. But, what about sacrificing ones potential health, career, relationships, etc to bring said child into the world? As a woman, I cannot imagine going through the trauma of rape, and then being forced to alter my whole life, and harbor that child inside me for nine months. The evilness of the act doesn't change as a result of that. If I called it 'mass killing' rather than 'genocide' it doesn't become any better; it is still just as bad. The state legalized the killing of millions of people belonging to a specific group, and that isn't better than if the state killed them for the purpose of destroying that group. Furthermore there are people who push to destroy foetuses for the purpose of reducing population (eg. China) and that is a deliberate plot.

Fetuses are all at a certain stage of development, if that can be called a "group". They cannot communicate with each other, they can't gather with each other, and have no concept of race, religion or language.

I am what I guess you could call an abortion moderate. In Canada there are no standing laws on abortion, it is not regulated by the law, but by individual hospitals and their policies.
I do believe that abortion is murder, and is very wrong and is by no means a "human right" or it would have been natural to do so long ago. However, being possible today, I do accept it in grave circumstances, like rape, or when the mother's life is at risk.
By no means do I consider Morgentaler a hero.

:) Why don't we make freely available euthanasia clinics for those thinking of suicide. Instead of making suicide illegal, and forcing people to kill themselves in potentially harmful manner, we can put them down in a humane fashion. Oh, and of course, it would be totally confidential, and no parents would get notified in the case of a minor requesting one.

Typical CBC bullshit. I work in construction and there's talk of labour shortages. There's no labour shortage there's a people shortage. I'm 31, born around the time women started having abortions on a large scale. Well there's 2 million less of us now and we're expected to pay for the baby boomers medical bills, meds, nursing homes and who know what else. They saddle us with socialist systems and deprive us of the people to work and pay for it. Thanks Henry.

To steal a line from the late George Carlin: Life is worth losing. It's just not that precious. For one thing, every minute of every day somebody's killing themselves. Whole swathes of innocent men, women, and children are being slaughtered by political regimes. Sometimes in the name of God. You may have even voted for some of those regimes. Companies everywhere are pumping pollutants into the environment causing untold numbers of disease and death. Abortions seem to pale in comparison.

Untrue. A zygote if left alone will form into a human baby. If not then we could just "will this zygote away". By 18 weeks this is a fully formed baby, ableit small. No one should be fooled into thinking this is not the start of new life. Some babies are born as early as 24 weeks. They call it a miracle baby if it lives and applaud the doctors at 24 weeks, they call it a fetus if it is aborted and throw it in the garbage! I wonder where on earth people became so hypocritcal and blind.

Morgentaler has nothing to do with *saving* women's lives, he has harmed womens lives and densenstized women, but it has backfired. Hospitals have been authorized to deal with life threatening pregnancies for decades, formally legal since 1968. Moregnetaler in effect proclaimed he only did this so that babies would not grow up to abuse or harm people. (due to his experience in concentration camp and losing his family). No one will believe this when birth control has been around for decades.

I am ashamed right now to be a Canadian. I know prochoice people ashamed right now too. To put this man on a pedestal as standing for Canadian values and life, is an affront to every Canadian, but a select few. Since when did we become something other than a democracy or stand up and salute someone who takes the life of babies?
We will be known as "Canada a great nation who honours men who kills babies" Doesn't even matter prochoice or proabortion. Most of the world will see it this way.

I am in much contact with people from the United States, particularly Catholics and in high numbers on forums. They are very concerned about Canadian liberalism that would allow homosexual marriage (which would be fine to let them stay common law) as well they are highly concerned about abortion. This will be a bomb through ALL Christian communities world wide, don't kid yourself.

Even if people don't care about Canada per se, we should, this is our country and we need to protect many issues to keep values and order. When a man who effectively "takes lives" for a living and gets the highest honour in Canada, this reflects in the worst way on Canadians. For those of us who allowed complacency and for those who will suffer in future with an extremely poor example for our children and their children. Whoops, may not have too many of those if Morgentaler has his way.

I am extremely in favour of homosexual marriage; allowing them to be only common-law would be depreving PEOPLE of a civil RIGHT.
I believe in democracy, I believe in CHOICE for women to do whatever they want with THEIR pregnancy.

That is fine, you got your wish. We will see how this bodes for people in the future when "marriage" starts looking totally different and people abuse it, with fake marriages etc. This is only the beginning of how people will (and I have already heard people plan this) will "marry" to get benefits with medical, dental, pensions and more. Wait and see, ripe for abuse there. I am not against homosexual relationships. I know this from my dealings in banking, municipality and teaching.

As for abortion. I highly suggest people truly look at this from a factual standpoint and not emotional. Then look at the emotional, physical and pscychological ramifications of women suffering post abortion. Duped does not begin to describe this atrocity against women. Did you read my other post? Abortions were technically legal in Canada for 40 years, Morgentaler had no business with his claims. He only had to join a proper hospital. Instead he exploited women for his agenda only.

There is also overwhelming evidence coming in about women suffering years later from grief over having aborted, look on internet or books. Women were told for years, they were not normal and abortions were nothing, so they suffered in silence or did not know how to express this.

Morgentaler in particular was the worst one to validate women and shoved them off as emotional or imagining things. Nothing to mention of physical harms that were not attended to correctly. Many men invalidated womens issues for years and here we have a man taking the life of a baby and denigrating a woman for her suffering later.

We are in the 21st century, and most of us are appalled that we have solid information on birth control, sex education, health issues of every female and male kind, yet we have people resorting to taking the life of a baby to solve their problems? We are the most advanced peoples in recorded history? Sorry, I will never buy that we are advanced if we abort babies at whim (unless it is life threatening)- to me that is medieval!. Who doesn't know how to manage the pill or other birth control?

This is what he is, there is no doubt about it. He did not want to comply with mandate of hospitals or College of Physicians and only forced this to make it look as if he cared about women, when in fact hospitals and doctors were already allowed to help women (and properly) in these situations. He has a warped mind and only wanted to make money on abortion mills. Or else he would have joined a hospital in 1968 when this was legal. He is a monster in my mind and I don't say that lightly.
