there is a simple diffrence which distinguish techno from other genres: techno is rythm and repetitivnes. Trance is melody and atmosphere. Hardcore techno has strong industrial influences. Breakbeat has unregular beat... for me its very simple.

Of course there are some things which contains elements from lots of genres, the fusion music, but it dont change a fact that there is still a big difference between techno, trance, hardcore or breakbeat.
