  • JD Roberts is completely unrecognizable.

  • this was a great show at Ontario Place!!

  • Three awesome guys that do what they love and have never done anything other than what they've wanted to do.

  • Caress of Steel is a beautiful album, one of the best albums ever. I am 47 y/o and couldn`t tell how many hours of joy they have provided me over the years. Some people just don`t understand music and can`t feel music. I believe these people are emotionally frigid.

  • Slip of the tongue by ol' Alex.."we fooled them again"..that is correct, you people are continuously fooled over and over again..to separate you the people from your money....keep blowing what little money you have to entertain yourselves to forget about what deep shit you are all in. While these giggling-old-goats take you for what you have; all the while these over-rated bozos laugh all the way to the bailed-out bankers' banks...

  • @phnx4life dude, lighten up! Jeez, what do you do for fun man?

  • Peart is really an introvert but he always gives for a good interview. Not only is Rush three great musicians, they are great friends and put on one of the best live shows you'll ever see. The thing I like about them best (other than music) is they are completely humble...no huge egos here...and very down to Earth. Rush in one word : AWESOME!

  • The lyrics are alltruistic

  • great seeing neil involved in the interview! happy happy happy

  • great clip and seeing the band (again) so much like a family...makes the last 30 years of being a Rush fan totally worth it.

  • It is hard to imagine a band that would be more fun to spend a day with. Charm, intelligence, goofiness ... oh yeah, they're also musical gods.

  • At 8:35 Neil is like, "Ok man that's enough". The interviewer was poking his nose around where it didn't belong.

  • the interviewer keeps excluding Neil, it makes me puke...

  • These guys ooze genuine humanity and class from start to finish. I barely even listen to pop and rock music anymore (I've transited to jazz and classical as I've gotten older), but I still love these guys and listen to them regularly.

  • Honestly John I think it was in bad taste to bring up the "Dark Period"..

  • cool dudes

  • geddy's nose has mutated into a solid rock eagle claw grappling hook!!!

  • You can tell it still hurts Neil... But God bless him

  • i meant Bath the cat

  • great quiet units

  • you lamers in 2012 last time was

    um spring sprang sprung

    /watch?v=30XdxwZb0kc\

more a gallatin trail upwards bax um glamping vhrooom

find me place to camp with sun dog fires and bubba's bar and bath handles

  • I've never seen Neil so talkative. I wonder if he had some "soup" before the interview.

  • @nev594 Neil Is Talkative Because Of The Interviewer, J.D Knows His Stuff Thus A Huge Trust Factor Is Present!

  • John Roberts use to be a VJ at Much Music in Toronto what he first started out, and interviewed rush many times back in the eighties. Search around youtube for' VJ Roberts and much music. It's funny to see them together after 30 years back then they were both broke and now they are multimillionaires

  • The R&R HOF is a farce. Will never step foot in the place until Rush is inducted. Three of the most talented musicians ever, awesome and ageless music, humble, kind guys. What more could we fans ask for???

  • Thank God Neil has loosened up enough with his shyness, and has matured enough to do a real interview with his band mates.

  • What's the "dark time' they're talking about?

  • @probrojeffro

neil lost his wife, and daughter. in the late 1990's

  • @crushy44 Wow! I did not know that. Man, that is certainly dark times. Sad.

  • He as why are they still here. Dah! Because they are GREAT!

  • neil's voice is out of phase

  • No egos, great character, good humour, and immense talent. We are the lucky ones guys!!

  • The three men of Willow Dale.

  • In answer o the Interviewers question , Q -What is it the makes RUSH so evergreen? A- The Music is great and the playing of the music is exceptional.

  • The only rock legends/Gods not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It makes the RRHOF look bad, certainly not RUSH. Good job, JD!

  • Boy you're not kidding. Neil handled the question well, but to think about what he

went through back then and to come back at anytime is pretty fuckin amazing.

  • When John asks about Neil's "dark period", notice Geddy and Alex at 7:29. They're like : Uh Oh....

  • Fuck indie music. You wants street cred? You want independence from being told what to do? You want spitting in the face of the establishment? Rush is the definition of that.

  • WTF, John Roberts thinks Neil Peart is the new guy??? Does he realize the magic came about when the 3 collaborated together? This interviewer needs a lesson in asking the right questions!

  • @ektnaim Hehe.. These guys have known John Roberts since the 80's. He used to be J.D. Roberts, a VJ at Muchmusic (Canada's version of MTV).

  • @ektnaim Fwiw Alex & Geddy jokingly call Neil "the new guy" even though he's been in the band since '74.. Inside joke, though they have mentioned it before, I believe in BtLS.

  • 5:55 I think someone saw Rush and crashed :P

  • PLEASE PLAY GREECE! WE MAY BE BROKE, BUT WE LOVE RUSH!

  • Buy the Time Machine dvd, it will make your life better.

  • Neil Peart- Drummer, SONG WRITER too!

  • I think Neil is a little drunk.

  • RUSH fan 4 LYFE.

  • all I'm saying is, if I were sitting down to do an interview and asked a question. as alex was is the instance of why HE thought there was renewed interest in the band. he was a sentence into his answer when neil abruptly just started answering the question for him! so alex just shoots him a look like..Hey, my question!.. I dont know, just because you happen to have an extended vocabulary. doesnt mean you should make up for all the lost interview time by be rude.

  • It's so nice to hear Neil after all these years of silence

  • Alex and Neil have to wear Passes to get into their own show, hehe, I think thats funny. Geddy doesn't need a pass, hehe.

  • Neil peart sound like the narrator from dragon ball.

  • 1:59 - Emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength

  • i stopped wen the interviewer guy said luck. it aint luck, its skill and dedication

  • like i said before no. #3 but in I believe there are better than Rolling Stones only beatles are longer lasting. Great group great concerts.

    Great stories in their music.

  • Dude! I sat right there in that spot for that concert!

  • I saw these guys May 2011Sheffield, front row. Geddy Lee was looking me in the eyes throughout most of the concert, i was honoured to be even in the presence of these guys it was so amazing, rush are the greatest! :)

  • the gnu music

  • My view is that the questions about the "Dark Days" were fair but perhaps went one question too long and that were Neil redirected the conversation

  • Neil seems uncomfortable answering that question about the "dark years"..way to go Roberts !..fat head ..

  • fuck me !,,i remember john roberts on much music on the metal hour...it's really surreal to see him doing this, and with Rush no less ! now i feel old..<(

  • Ill bet Neils confidence about doing this interview was soaring till the journalist asked the question. I know the guys doing his job but damn, 10 years later give it a rest. He went through hell and still managed to come back and turn himself and the band into well, history in the making. Rush is a great inspiration through there music and themselves in general. They're one of the greatest and can do anything when it comes to music. RUSH RULES!!

  • The Beatles grew up together yet they broke up acrimoniously, so Bono's analogy is bullshit.

  • Geddy, I can tell you why I will attend every Rush concert till the end of time, I will be 48 years old this October 19th. I graduated from HS in 82' I can remeber me and my frinds jamming to RUSH 30 years ago. Your music takes us all back to times with much less responcibility. Times that were great at the greatest times in our lives. I can rmember places I was and people I was with listening to all of your songs. That is why we still come out. Your music makes us young again. tour soon DENVER.

  • Nice one John, bringing up the "dark years" about Neil's life.

  • Comment removed

  • John, Your fired!!!!

  • what a dumbass interviewer...

  • For years after Neil's personal tradegies, he refused to participate in any interviews. now, he's trampling all over the other members questions. you cant shut him up!.

  • @jfgdfb you're right! I think since he's re-married and has a child that he's changed in the last 5 years which is cool. We still have the ability to change after many years on this planet.

  • @jfgdfb Neil Peart is the most well read, articulate, and amazing person that can convey an idea, so, what is your argument here? that Neil Peart might answer a question compleatly? I think these guys have lived and worked together so long now, they can can accept each others thoughts, and concepts of their band. I think Neil has no problem getting the bands idea across. Thank you.

  • @jfgdfb i know dude its funny actually.. interview guy asks ged or al a question and neil answers all the questions lmao

  • @jfgdfb - - Come on dude! Seriously? I love hearing this guy talk. I say, "Let 'er rip Neil!"

And BTW; even before any of his tragedy's, Neil never had done many interviews or Meet & Greets at all. He does explain why in one of his books. Sucks for (wannabe) drummers like myself....

  • @jfgdfb I know, but it is great to hear him open up! This band is like an old friend I have never met! I can trust they will always be there. I can trust they will always care about us! I can trust they will give me their all!

  • @jfgdfb I noticed that too, but Neil was NEVER chatty. It's good to see him come out of his shell after 40 years.. lol

  • @jfgdfb The way it shouldve always been

  • @jfgdfb Just means he's happy again.

  • WOW. way to kill a good mood roberts. everybodys joking and laughing, bubbleing with conversation, then WHAM frozen funeral on a stick, you are the life of the party J.D.

  • i love the part where neil, the ultimate rationalist, admits rush is a mericale

  • I think it's funny that CNN (Communist News Network) are interviewing Rush, the band that devoted entire albums and songs to Ayn Rand...

  • uh ohh, he asked the forbidden question...

  • @chrispwns123456789 7:38 awkward silence

  • John Roberts was a VJ back in Toronto on Much Music back in the 80's!

  • @Kenebutch and Toronto Rocks and The New Music

  • @dnsquare John Roberts is a insensitive blockhead !

  • wow. you can tell neil didnt like that question about the hiatus. man that is the one thing you dont bring up with neil. i mean wow i know the interview is just going through the questions but that is partially why neil didnt do interviews he like just started doing them again which is great. but man like you can tell that he was rubbed the wrong way..

  • why would he ask that

    why

  • "ON to happier subjects." Wil you frigging stop with the questions about the dark period. He just went on and on about it. Great interview except he should have stopped after the first question.

  • Leave Neil alone

  • Neil has a thing with hats...

  • 8:36- Good for Neil! People should really stop bringing that up!

  • A Canadian interviewing a Canadian Band on American TV

  • ...JD, JD, JD...luck had not an iota to do it with it...

when I look back on my life I can genuinely include Rush as one of the key formative elements of who I am...

  • John Roberts is a JACKASS !!

  • Good to see all three of them together. You usually see alex and geddy or neil but not always all three.

  • OK,it was a sensitive subject, but what do you want? An interview where you circle around the topic uncomfortably?! They were on hiatus, and that's all that was originally brought up. The reasons are well known and part of their careers.

Besides,Rush and J.D. Roberts (as Roberts was known to Toronto's "New Music"show fans) go way back together, and there's a history between them. If anyone can touch on the more personal issues,it's an old friend,no?

  • neils eyes say it all"why the hell is this guy bringing this up"

  • was this inbterview in houston?

  • @HippyManEyeballs1 No, it was in Atlanta, Georgia. I know because I saw them in that ampitheatre on the Time Machine Tour, maybe even that same day as this interview.

  • i have to say it was awkward watching the bit where it turned to Neil's past - the camera stayed on him just a fraction of a second to long and you could see it was uncomfortable for him and he even cut John Roberts off mid-sentence when he went to say something more about that time. You could just tell that they really werent into talking about that part of their lives.

  • Some of you guys need to chill out about JD asking about the bands hiatus when Neil's wife and daughter died. The band didnt walk out on the interview, Neil didnt charge off the stage, and the interview went on just fine. He asked a question, they answered, and it was left alone. Theres no need to hurl mindless insults at someone you dont even know for asking a question of someone you dont even know. My point - the band didnt get pissed off, so why would you?

  • @NewsMan580 Thank you for this comment! :)

  • Verison Wireless Ampitheater. Great place to see a show. I saw STP there, and it was great. I'll bet rush sounded awesome there.

  • These guys seem so down to earth

  • I'm kinda with the top comment. As soon as he brought up Neil's tragedies I was just like "oooooooh."

  • I love how Neil is speaking up all the time, seeing as how he's almost never there in interviews.

  • 3 members, 3 best friends, 3 world class musicians.

  • @lonewolf604 and one idiot interviewer.

  • To expound upon what Geddy said, we don't just like their music. WE LOVE THEIR MUSIC! I can't remember seeing Neil so open and talking so much in an interview before!

  • Holy s**t! JD Roberts doing a musical interview AND with Rush?! Does it get any better than that! Is JD moonlighting aside from the news desk these days or something?

  • I love how talkative Neil is in this interview, he's so interested in talking that he even interrupts Geddy a few times.

  • John Roberts and Rush go wayyyyyy back. He's probably the one reporter who can ask those questions.

  • What a lot of Americans may not know is that Roberts was interviewing Rush when he was nineteen for the CityTV show "The New Music". His association with the band is long and deep, so he was able to ask a question about that period in the band's life...up to a point.

  • aw man...knew something happened with neil but dint know wot it was....this interviewer is a dick for going there......and on a happier subject......RUSH!!!...FRIGGIN AWESOME!!....

  • Here in Canada he's known as JD Roberts. One of the early VJ's from Canada's Much Music video channel.

  • John Roberts is normally an astute reporter, but he blew it here. What is the advantage of bringing up the death of Neil's wife and kid? Idiot. Should have had done more homework on Neil.

  • Why do we love RUSH so much? Because they never sold out. RUSH is the only band EVER who's members are NOT individually expendable.

  • @AceOfHeart2012 Not true. The Police is another band who's members are not individually expendable.

  • @meccaturbo The who?

  • I'd like to add that they are a class act of holding composure even under stupid interviewer. John Roberts should be ashamed, especially since he is from Toronto, Rush's home band!

  • GEEZ...the interview starts off in a great mood, Neil very enthusiastically talking all over the place (putting to rest the negativity that surrounded him not wanting to take part in interviews during his dark years). and then WHAM-O...feel the mood shift at 7:20, note Neil's body language (scratch neck) and 8:29 looking away... Typical interview bullshit pulling out the negative crap. His inner voice was saying "would you effing shut up John", but came out as...."on to happier subjects".

  • What an idiot reporter. It would have been OK to briefly mention the passing of Neil's wife and daughter and that the band took a hiatus - period. But this dipshit keeps hashing it out and dragging on about it. Hell, you see Neil was getting pissed.

  • What a stupid reporter. Now Neil probably won't interview again because of this guy. It was nice to see him on Letterman though.

  • These guys are the classiest in Rock. They're musical geniuses, yet they are so humble and such gentlemen.

  • beany2112 i agree, i love these guys i finally saw them at MSG in NY.

  • @rushforever2011, They formed in 1968, but didn't release their first album until 1974.

  • can't stop thinking bigger and better

    /watch?v=jjWDJ9bm1ic

  • Great interview,{aside from the mistake of talking way to long about Neils' unfortunate tragedy that happened all those years ago now}. God I really Like the Rush,I see that they are very wise and cool people, and I'm happy about it.I'm learning from them.I wish I could play like Geddy.

  • Rush 4 Ever. keep Rockin Boy's. We love you.

  • The guy went a bit too long on the tragedy's. Neil was very kind in handling that moment. I don't know the reporter but "what was he thinking about going on and on about those past painful experience's in Mr.Pearts' life {and all rush fans lives}?He didn't Know it was taboo?Do your homework and have a little more respect before you do an interview like this.Sorry I'm a little pissed.now I will watch the rest of the interview. End the drug War!!!! Peace and thanks.

  • Poor Neil. I love how he is so nice to the reporter, even though he brought up Neils personal life and the tragic death of his daughter and wife.

Neil is just such a nice guy.

  • @jerrythepotato1919 No. You brought it up. And a bunch of others here.

I Love Rush.......not so much the fans.

  • @Gary1111001 So what you're stating is that in this video, this guy interviewing them never brought up Neil's situation, and it matters that I did on a comment on YouTube?

    Seriously, get a life.

  • Does anybody notice that Neil's VIP card has the Clockwork Angles cover on it...

  • 1:40 Neil cut off Geddy!

  • WHEN DID RUSH 1ST STARTED OUT THOUGHT IT WAS 1974

  • WHAT A DOCHE I FELT LIKE PUNCHING THAT REPORTER, HE OBVIOUSLY SAW THE DOCUMENTARY WHY DIG THAT UP

  • The death of Neil's wife and daughter has already been reported how does it make John Roberts a good reporter mentioning it now?

  • That whole interview was pretty much about disowning Neil. If anyone, disown Alex! He's bald!

  • While I felt bad for Neil in this interview, John Roberts is a reporter & let's face it that is always going to be a part of Rush's history. He had to mention it. He wouldn't be a good reporter if he failed to mention it. The worst thing about it because Neil is a famous person he will be forever asked about it. Not that he will ever be able to forget, bu tperhaps he can come to a place when he is more comfortable about it. But knowing how private he is I doubt it.

  • What a colossal dick John Roberts is for wanting to press the issue of Neil's personal life. I have zero respect for John Roberts and I hope he has great failures and misfortunes in his life.

  • I was so heartbroken for those 2 incidents that Neil experienced. How devastating.

  • xeivous, yea they dont know when to shut their mouths. These interviewers are all the friggin same. There not satisfied with what the band is offering them, it seems they want more and more.

  • fuck CNN, mentioning Neil's personal life. i hate CNN, but love Rush

  • GEDDY LEE ATE MY GFs BABY!!!!!!

  • nice to see 4 old Toronto boys together again after 30 yrs.

  • Wow! Neil is downright "chatty" on this interview! Very cool.

  • CORPORATE JOURNALISTS LACK UTTER PHILOSOPHICAL TACT. Respect Neil's privacy; it is the ADULT THING to do.

  • "On the happier subjects" I wouldn't want to talk about that either I can't blame Neil for changing the subject.

  • @Annonymus121

Fuck, yeah, fuckin dumb journalist... Leave That thing Alone.

  • @jpque27 I disagree, John Roberts is pretty solid. He asked a probing question in the spirit of doing his job. Geddy and Alex drew the line in the sand and he retreated from the topic.

  • @jpque27 -john roberts got his 'start' in toronto, with cons on,doing post-punk look interviews when sctv was on the air

  • @jpque27 The journalist is actually J.D Roberts,Nowadays Known As John Roberts, who was formally a Much Music Vj From Canada & also a lifelong friend of RUSH.Trust me.......he isnt dumb and knows his music!

  • @sammycircle So true I remember that just goes to show u dont need to be in television to be smart as your post states if u remember that far back u have a brain too>

  • @sammycircle From the moment JR starts asking Neil about his tragic period you can see Rush resents his questions by their body language. All the way through the second part of the interview, Alex, Neil and Geddy have their fingers crossed. Geddy folds his arms when asked about the phone call. For someone who knows them from way back, especially, there's no excuse for him being so insensitive. How would anybody with any sense touch on a subject like that?

  • @nkmcfrln Softball Interviews Are For Pussies...........nk Maybe You Would Be Better Off Watching The Womens Network...Lmao!

  • @sammycircle Your praising this guy (J.D. Roberts) and the truth is he was a complete fool and a dick back in the day. A lifelong friend huh? You're full of shit! Interviewing somebody and hanging out with them a tiny bit doesn't constitute a "lifelong friend." I suppose you think well of Jeanne Becker too. She was hot then and still is and not a complete bitch, right? Even from the very start of the interview you can see they don't want to talk to him by their body language.

  • @nkmcfrln Ok Kid its bedtime...cya!

  • Comment removed

  • @sammycircle Sure it's bedtime, you goof! A J.D. Roberts fan. lol If you ever meet Neil Peart be sure to ask him about losing his wife and daughter.

  • @nkmcfrln What In The Name Of God Are You Talking About?.............What How Or Where In This Video Do You Come Up With Any Subject Matter That Provokes You Too Ask Me Such A Question About Neils Wife And Daughter?......Are You A Paranoid Personality.....You Are Goin g Off On Somekind Of Weird Tangent Against J.D Roberts.......Did JD Abuse You In your Early Life?..........Lmao WHY THE UNPROVOKED HOSTILITY TOWARDS MR. ROBERTS?

  • @sammycircle You aren't too fucked in the head are you? I don't like J.D. Roberts; he's not a good friend of Rush. It was clear that Rush wasn't thrilled with the interview especially when he brought Neil and Geddy and Alex back to an incredibly tragic period. Softball? Womens' Network? Some DORK is shooting his mouth off at me on YouTube. You're a joke. Is anybody else out there okay with the interviewer even beginning to bring Neil back to losing his wife and daughter?

  • "We fooled 'em again!" hahaha Lerxst is a classy guy

    Love these guys so much

  • i want geddy's t shirt
