You are making a clay 'plug'. From the plug, you will make a mold, from the mold you will make parts. I have learned that you want to make your molds out of EPOXY resin and FG cloth(not mat) as opposed to POLYESTER resin and FG mat(not cloth). Polyester shrinks/warps too much.
wow nice vids .. building a hole car like u is hardcore ;) a friend of my how work 4 a French car company building models broth my to your channel .. Keep up the good work !!
@StephanSlaughter What? The clay is not going to be the actual dash piece. Its used to make a mold, then from the mold I will make a final dash that will be composite and covered in leather.
@vfIskullangel No none of the car is based on a Miata, the only thing that's being sourced from a Miata is the front and side glass and some inner door components.
the clay is easier for the dash. the only reason why it would have been hard to do the rest of the car in clay without the cad program is because of the symmetry (and cost of that much clay). the dash is a totally one off asymmetrical, somewhat organic sculpture. by doing it right in the car youll know its the right size, for everything else you can just free hand and eyeball it based roughly on drawings. dont go crazy with the cad and the foam and wood and all that. its just unnecessary.
@maikeru01 Yeah I agree, this is going to be an all clay project. Its too much work to do it in CAD and then make forms and foam everything up. After its all finished, I have a 3D scanner than I can use to scan the Dash and put it into CAD for modeling if i want to.
Not to be mean or offensive or any thing, but it would have been much easier to what you did with the front bumper on the car because it world have been quicker, lighter, cheaper, you already have the tools necessary to make it and foam or whatever you use is cheaper and easier to get your hands on that modeling clay (I also hope you don't have to bake it after you are done because it's like $8 per kilo).
@TacticalFinder Well I disagree with it being easier to do it like I did on the front end, that was extremely complex. Using the clay will allow me to make changes and I can pull molds directly from the clay with no issues.
I would also score the edges of the clay that you are attaching together. Just small little scratches on both dash and new clay will allow for best bonding.
@BaileyBlade I'm with you eitherway, great job on the car. I've send you an Email (name John Belwell) a while ago so you know that i'm a huge supporter of your work and very into such sorts of constructions, although i haven't messed with full vehicle constructions yet, pretty much with sculptures and other hobbyist materials.
@BaileyBlade Hehe i don't remember getting one but it's ok if i you don't reply if you read the email, like i told you in the email i understand of your work load!
I think it would be better to work on the dash support out of the car, and to roll out sheets on a counter with a rolling pin just to be able to lay a base. Then work the clay as you have been doing.
good stuff man!!!! like always. i'm sure when you're project is finish you will have a lot of people after your car! by the way how much have you invested in the car/project so far? just wondering.
@xiNsAnEAuSSi3x money is the problem... he can't have everything done without the money to buy parts or anything he needs. he says it in a video. he lets his viewer know how a regular guy can create a master piece..

What's the temperature range on the foam?
Scorpion85629 1 month ago
@Scorpion85629 With the spray foam I used I have no idea. I looked on the can and it does not specify.

You can use a dynamat or hushmat roller tool to push the clay around. It will save your fingers...
stabilityball 1 month ago in playlist Blade XTR Complete Video List
@stabilityball Yeah I may try something like that, this clay is very hard so not sure if that will work.

i might try a carbon fibre dash idk how well it will work but it has got to be faster cheaper and easier.
bgjnat56 1 month ago in playlist Blade XTR Complete Video List
@bgjnat56 Not sure what you mean... The dash is not going to be made out of clay. I will be pulling molds from it once its all sculpted and designed.
BaileyBlade 1 month ago
Personally i would have done it with Fiberglass Over Foam, mostly because it's what i do best.
truebassB 1 month ago
@truebassB Yeah if knew exactly how it would look then I would too. But doing it in clay allows me to make changes real easy.

if you want to do it like the professionals I'd try scanners and CNC from CAD.
a DIY CNC is not that hard.

Use a toaster over on the warm setting.
