That was a great show. I remember finding Food Fighters fascinating and I wished they had made it a cartoon series. I even imagined ideas for later characters like Officer Ring the Onion Ring and Corpral Chili for the Kitchen Commandos. And Macho Nacho and Fishy Patti for the Refrigerator Rejects.
I had 4. One from each faction. The doughnut and chicken leg , and the french fries and the cookie. My favorite was a toss up between fries and doughnut. I see you have the edition with pink frosting, mine had chocolate.
27 yrs old, I knew I had something like this when I was kid but I could never remember WTH they were, .... THEY WERE FOOD FIGHTERS! THEY DO EXIST!!! ......I am a moron.
Great show! Nice obscure toy review, I actully bought all of these guys with some birthday money myself and later bought the combat grill or whatever it was.All I remember is my friends asking me 'What the hell are these things'? Funny they werent based on a cartoon or anything.
The first one of these guys I owned was Sgt. Scoop. Although you have a few of the variants including Scoop, who is originally a chocolate scoop. Short Stack also had regular syrup instead of blueberry, which while I like the blueberry, it takes away from the "look" of Stack having a nose. Chip the Ripper also had a chocolate version with butterscotch chips and Major Munch had a chocolate version and strawberry. I always wanted the latter version.
I remember the food fighters! I had the donut, the pizza, the taco, and the burger! Great show, by the way. I just discovered it last night and I'm now going back to watch them from the beginning.
I remember as a kid wanting these, so much so I shoplifted them and was CAUGHT! It was at a Woolworth, I was caught, I was TERRIFIED. The security guard told me never to go back in that store. So imagine how much I shit myself when my mom wanted to go at least once a week.
I am a HUGE obscure toy fan.I have the fry chopper, the bbq bomber, the combat carton and all the figures.i did have to spend alot of money for that combat carton though.I still love my food fighters.
@superslashable We're kind of making a web-released show that has them in it, as well as all kinds of other action figures. The taco and ice cream are in episode 3...
Yeah, I'm 27. I've been looking all over for the Food Fighters. I had most of the figures. I remember them well. LT leg and Taco Terror, and Fat frenchie were my favorites.
I had the whole set. Except my ice cream was chocolate, as was the doughnut. And my pancakes had brown syrup. I even had the lunchbox, which I took to school every day.
I didn't take good care of my toys. Some got lost never to be found again. I assume they were eventually thrown away. But the Food Fighters I still have are General, Private Pizza, Lt. Leg and Major Munch. All from the good guy team. So I guess they won in the long run.
I had all of them except the fries and the ice cream...Although, was there ANOTHER ice cream cone model that looked like a chocolate Ice cream instead of...Whatever flavor the one in the video looks like...B/C I think I had that one...
i remember one kid mentioning food fighters when i was about 10 i was stunned cause iv been collecting toys since i was 4 it wasnt till i saw this video that i first saw the food fighter line
you guys do great videos on random old toys like this and muscle men. how about some barnyard commandos? oh and that new toy smell (the scent not your show) is kind of like feces sometimes with older packaged figures i open
This was probably one of the best underrated mattel toys out there. Thanks for giving it the recognition that it deserves. This was my favorite toys (besides Star Wars and GI Joe) when I was a kid. I loved it so much, I actually have every single toy. Though, I do wish that I kept it in better condition, but damn it, they were really fun to play with.
I wanted Food fighters so bad when they came out(looking back, they were cheaply made, hollow-like a plastic dog toy & kind of lame). They actually debuted in 89(spring/early summer I believe). The Donut guy U have("Major Munch"), is actually off-color. He was originally had brown glaze. A few yrs after the line came out, U could find Food Fighters in the local dollar store(like Pick N' Save)w/off colors. You could get regular figures as well, but I believe most were 2nds.
P.S., a bit of constructive criticism for you all: the footage of all the characters from around 6:20 to about 8:00 was a little redundant, considering you'd done several panning and individual shots of them earlier. If you're going to have footage like that I'd prefer to hear some more commentary, if there's any to be had; otherwise, I'd have much preferred a quicker-paced 8-minute video than a slow-paced 9:15-minute video.
Still, like I said, I did enjoy this video. Keep up the good work!
Oh snap, I remember these. I'm pretty sure I had the cookie dude at least. Now am I crazy, or does the chicken leg look like a super-pissed-off Colin Mochrie?
Anyway, you've made an interesting series here. I'm looking forward to seeing more!

part of the fun of owning a toy is playing with it. That way, you don't send all your time just playing with yourself.
