Xe gives a huge hand training and disciplining them, and Xe and other companies contribute to escorting supplies, businessmen, and fighting for america when it would be politically incorrect to send the army. those are what private contractors do. and when you talk about a few who have committed war crimes, you claim that all of the do that, which is single minded.

@ebrowne369 Perhaps toward the wind down of the argument i was having with a cretin, i may have grown a bit hyperbolic. Of course not all members Xe, Halliburton, and other war profiteers are evil people who contribute nothing productive. Massive companies stretch influence so far, thus can easily feed the poor of one nation while abolishing the middle class in another. However, private contractors are less accountable than their military counterparts yet participate in as much as the fighting.

@ebrowne369 Xe and groups like them are absolutely not the same, your right. They take no oaths to principles. They do not adhere to rules of war. Perhaps some of them have found a more fulfilling calling being private forces, financially and morally, but the fact remains. These forces are being accumulated and gathered, not by humanitarian organizations out for peace, but for private companies for their interests and for their profit. Profit on the backs of the american tax payer mostly.

@vipeream i kinda agree. there was a blackwater dude partolling the city after hurricane katrina with an m4, he said he was there to stop looters. in my opinion it should have been a soldier concerntrating on that. i do not think mercenaries should be used for internal security, but for bounty hunting, outside jobs and working with private businesses who don't have the time or influence for the military, i think PMC's are okay. although, i reckon theyu should have more humanitarian contracts.

I sincerely doubt a civilian in occupied territory distinguishes the intentions from mercenary to army regular. To them it is just USA. If they are a big part, then make them a legitimate & accountable part and force them to adhere to the same rules, scrutiny, oversight, and punishments. They are almost exempt.

@vipeream they don't join the army because it is their choice whether they want to sign up or not. just because a group lends a hand, doesn't mean they are the same. besides, everyone in Xe is retired military and usually retired spec ops anyway. they have already done their job and been in the army, now they are just making bick bucks from their skill, which is capitalism.

When we allow private armies to be created where the best of the best go to the highest bidder, then what will we do when we cannot pay? The romans acted similarly, paying mercenaries to expand and keep their empire, and when the bank broke and rome fell, the mercenaries used the tools and power they were given to pillage and dissolve society itself. In our case, they will simply outsource.

@chixiantan That, is afganistan where that flawed logic would even begin to make sense. Iraq was ruled over a dictator, not islamic law. We have no reason at all, at least before the war, to think that IRAQIS would do harm to our nation. Wish us harm? Sure. There is also no reason to pay these mercenaries ridiculous sums of money when we have a massive volunteer army to fight our unjust and unconstitutional wars. Companies like XE are part of the problem, warmongering for profit.

We have thousands of US militaries and just a number of Blackwater operators to support them in specialized task. These Blackwater will not kill insurgents if their lives are not in danger. @chixiantan Yes and who paid for that training? Not Blackwater, but the American taxpayer. Blackwater then poaches the top talent from the army and hires them back out to the army for 10 times a normal soldier's salary, and then some. So the taxpayer both saves Blackwater the training money AND ends up paying through the nose for soldiers they paid to train.
But listen, I don't blame the guys who sign up, I blame Prince for being an evil war profiteer who operates outside the law.

24 hour monitoring,Quick reaction support, Armed and unarmed protective services, Perimeter security, Entry control point management. Of course if they have a client that is being attacked they will do what they are trained to do to eliminate or mitigate threats.

They are getting paid more because they are temporary, more trained, specialized, more risk sometimes. Do they work for any government besides US or US allies? Do they go to war ahead of our military? They exist because we have a need for them. Our military is not set up for some task. No blackwater operator will do it for money alone.

If that's what they did then I'd have nothing against them. But they operate in the shadows, they are exempt from national and international law, they are hired to do the "dirty work" that the black ops guys don't want on the official books. And those black ops are what give the REAL military guys such a hard time abroad, setting the locals against them.
And just to state the obvious, I do support the actual US and allied troops. I personally know a few and they are nothing other than pros.

They are compensated to pay for their bills and care for their wives and children. But they do this more for honor. Because they understand that there are people that wish to destroy us so we have to eliminate the people that wants to eliminate us.
