  • I trully respect you for making this video dear and as a female (transgender female) I can honestly say how male privilege is discusting and T dosent actually make one great, it is funny how some think this is the case. Keep on stating the facts dear and dont let the haters stop you, I get tons of haters on my channel also but I dont care what they thinl. It kinda sucks to hear that us females are not appreciated though :( but thanks for speaking your mind. :D

  • great video.would really like to hear more about this!

  • Just wondering if you have had top surgery? You look great!

  • You are soooo right

  • Great video!

  • As someone who is very androgynous to begin with, and does sometimes pass without much help from anything aside from clothes, I have had conversations with guys and been perceived as male that I have had to deal with this too. And then when I am treated "less than" I get very upset, and normally question that person why does it matter. This is true even in Massachusetts, which is infuriating. Thank you for backing this up.

  • Thank you for addressing this and posting.

  • And actually (sorry to post again) when I think about it, there are women out there who have been thoroughly socialized into believing that they -are- less capable in some ways because they are women. I've known a surprising number actually. It's not even necessarily anyone's fault anymore, it's just amazing what society can put into your head that so many people don't bother to question or think on.

  • Thank you. Just... thank you. lol

I actually grew up in the same area that you are near, Central Texas, and for a long time I thought maybe it was solely a Texas or southern phenomenon. Having lived on the east coast for ten years, I'm sorry to say that it's not. It might be flavored slightly differently, but it's still there.

  • I'm still a little skeptical. How do you know for sure that what you're calling "Male Privlege" isn't what the Military calls Command Presence or what the streets call Swag? Cuz I know a lot of guys with out Command Presence or swag and the catch hell!

  • It means so much to me everytime I see a video where a guy is, quite rightly, disgusted by how much more capable people assume he is compared to people who are perceived as being female. I am constantly trying to explain how prevalent and insidious male privilege is to my cismale friends, and they take great offense to my telling them that they are privileged in ways women are not. "Since feminism, men get less allowances than women" is something I get a lot. =/

  • Good vid... love how you describe this - male privilege. insightful. thanks for this

  • So move. You don't want to be stuck in a mostly close minded place that basically only respects men do you? I know I wouldn't stay in a place like that so I'm going WAY up north in Toronto where I'm hoping they're a little more fair. I heard in Canada people are a lot nicer and more respectful of others. Plus I just like snow. lol But that's just me. ;-D I have no doubt there are great, open minded people and awesome cultures in the world and I personally can't wait to get out and look. :-)

  • I feel really sorry for those cisgender men that feel pressured to act in negative ways, such as the ones you have described. No one should feel like they can't reach out to other people or pursue their intrests because of how they are born. I think this all just depends on where you live though for the most part anyway. For example: in New York it's viewed as strange to even make eye contact with someone you don't know. Not just for men but for everyone. Life is too short to put up an act. :-)

  • right. on. the. money..THANKYOU!xx

  • im not a transgender but i find your videos very insightful and interesting. thank you i really enjoy them and learn from em

  • Hey - you mentioned swimming in the video - what do you wear to go swimming? I'm trying to figure out what to wear this summer.

    Thanks man,

    Austin

  • @MrAustinHJ hey austin. i've found that the underworks 997 works best in the water. I've cut mine in half and it's a size larger than the type i'd normally wear, then i just try to find a swim shirt of some sort that either has insignia across the chest, or has some sort of texturized material so it takes attention off lines the binder leaves when the shirt gets wet. the underworks swimshirt doesn't work well for me at all, but beck rosato (he's on youtube) seems to like it quite a bit.

  • Ive also noticed that women are much nicer to me now.

  • hey, just saw this video and i totally understand what you are talking about. in fact, it was the same observation i have noticed as well. tho' i never vlogged publicly about it (only wrote it on my journal) - but having transitioned later in my life (30) - it was difficult for me to accept this truth. in fact, it was even to the point of i wanted to stop T becs i was disgusted of this "male privilege" - but alas, i finally reached my senses and realized... (conti..)

  • ... i CAN choose the kind of man i want to become. And perhaps shake up "male privilege" - i think its a blessing to have this opportunity to have that kind of empathy to be once on the other side of the fence, and learn how to be more sensitive to women. Kudos on your transition! :)

  • i know this might sound really bad... but i cant wait till i get that privilege... i cant wait till i become that person that i see but others dont. and i will use that male privilege to the best of my ability and ill own this world.

  • .. do the job, based solely on my gender. It's like a guy is given the benefit of the doubt, & a girl is not. A girl has 2 prove herself first. It sucks. And I'm in Canada so I think what u are seeing now isn't just in Texas. It's the way our entire western society operates on some level. Thanks for your honesty on the subject. We just have 2 be the men that this world & all the women we know deserve! Don't let it change you, just let it change how you view the world for the women around you.

  • I hear u man. I'm a carpenter, so I work every day in a very male oriented field. I worked my entire apprenticeship as female bodied, & I had to work twice as hard as any guy I knew just 2 get some semblance of respect. I constantly had 2 prove myself because everyone around me assumed I couldn't do my job (ie. heavy lifting or tough math to figure out a set of stairs, etc) And in the end most of my bosses told me i was their best worker! Now being seen as male it's automatically assumed I can..

  • You're not the first FTM person who has observed this phenomenon. Women strongly suspect men are treated with more respect just because they are men; when men transition from female to male they find that this is true & most of them rightly take offense. Thanks for speaking up. This is one of the reasons I believe FTM's make better men than some CIS-gendered men. Male privilege status makes no sense. Thank you for seeing that & for speaking out. Loved how song lyrics filled in your message. lol

  • @Hearten7 Thank you for watching and caring. :)

  • This video infuriated me.. as it should have!

  • Epic video.. and you hit the nail on the head with it.

  • Jamie, I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your videos.

I appreciate how open you are about everything. I'm so lucky to have you as a friend and a role model.

    Stay strong bro.

    Xoxx- Harris

  • I really enjoy your videos...you say what i cant word.

  • man. this video kicked ass.

  • great video and a tough problem for everyone... thanks for talking openly about it!

  • GReat vid, man.

  • Hey, I'm from East Texas too. Curious to know where you lived, but didn't know if you wanted to give that info. on here or not. You are looking great!

  • @Kshynes I grew up in Terrell, but now I'm way down south. I spent a while in College Station as well. You?

  • @sneetchinflux A little further East...Tyler, Longview area. Now in Wylie for the past year and 1/2. Miss the Piney Woods sometimes.

  • dude, that's crazy! Very nicely expressed. :) I'm glad you made this vid!

  • DUDE!!! I posted this to my wall, boy did I get a bunch of shit from my MTF friends...LOL... Telling me that the privilege isnt there. WHAT? I understand completely what you said

  • I'm shocked about what you said in terms of that video that FTM guy made. That's messed up. Being trans gives you such a special view of the world and no transperson should lose sight of that.

  • dude, yeah. this world is fucked.

  • 100% agree.

  • Great Video! As a black female-bodied individual, this shit really sucks and in my corporate career I see exactly what you are referring to :(

  • @ERose15 oh, i truly can only imagine what you deal with-- i'll never be able to fully know what that's like :-/

  • I dont think its as predominant in New Zealand but Ill put my head on the chopping block and ask some of my friends (female) at the weekend when I see them. just for you. LOL. Being a guy it may just be going over head and I dont recognaise it.

  • heres the myth: emotions make you appear weaker...Not true, use them to your advantage with your wise mind.

To me if I saw you on the street I would see a man, I believe you are cutting yourself short by saying you are ambiguous. Maybe it is the clothing you were wearing at the time.

You are right in the fact that there is a "male privilege", it has been clearly theorized, studied and reported. women have always been looked down as the lesser, which often makes me wonder why I gave it up, LOL =)

  • i love that you voiced this. although some may say... "this is not true! i'm offended!".... it is really true. and i appreciate that you state your mind and educate those around you. you are awesome. you truly will change the world by starting this conversation.Your voice is unique because you have experienced both worlds, mentally and physically, which the majority of individuals have not. I appreciate your plea to ask those around you to acknowledge this and create change.

  • Truth.

  • As a guy i find this all to be completely ridiculous, you live near Mexico so its dominated by males but everywhere else its not like that at all. Pretty much everywhere else women have way more privilege they can do whatever they want and get away with it because they're women. At work women can talk to each other all the time while the guys do all the work and they get longer breaks. since im a guy its over for me when i get in trouble with the 5-O but women get away free ALL the time

  • lol, gotta love male privileges eh man.

i always thought it wasnt fair. so sad for all the hard working & good women out there.

great vid/points man. glad ur putting this out there.

    peace

  • You raise a lot of great points in this video and while I am very aware of the male privilege, I think it's interesting that you discuss the issue of respect and the way you must act in order to pass. I always love watching your videos because you enlighten me in so many ways and I come away as a much more knowledgeable person.

  • It is sad but this is so true, I think its crazy I have slowly been writing a book on how the world are treats you when you are on each side of the fence and stuff its pretty crazy.

  • There is so much truth to what you've said in this video. I never noticed some of the things you mentioned happening to me until you mentioned it. I used to have a boss that showed me 5 times (not kidding) in a row how to enter a new piece of inventory into the computer system. I got the picture after the first time, and probably could have figured it out on my own without him explaining it.

  • @kyintees At my new job, I'm much more relaxed and I'm offered more shifts. I'm not sure if that's completely because of male privilege, or the type of job itself (it's not retail like the old one so it's hard to judge). It's probably a small combination of both.
