one thing is: the metaphase chromosomes (typical X-form) are not jet visible in S-phase! the condensation of chromosomes is triggered by M-Cdks!!! i dont know if cohesin connects the sister strands at this point (in S-phase). i suppose so.

its a bit siplified but i find it really helpful, because i have to think further (about the enzyme names etc)

@AyacIuan hmm evn i was thinking, r d sister chromatids connected by cohesin at s phase? they condense only at the m phase,n cohesisns and condensis comes into play only then ryt?

@mayuuuzzz the sister chromatids are held together as replication occurs during S phase. they become sister chromatids in prophase (the first step of Mitosis) when the chromosomes condense, and yes they are still held together by cohesins. The activation of APC complexes ubiquinates the cohesions causes them to be degraded via proteases, separating the chromatids in the processes that lead to 2 identical daughter cells
