  • Then they cut to the runners looking all nervous about the spears flying around.

  • @kozmon0t lol

  • Big throw

  • Love the javelin officials booking it down the field trying to catch up! XD

Good thing it wasn't a couple of meters further - imagine the skip off the mondo...

  • Both of those guys (Hohn and Zelezny) deserve to be the WR holders, in my opinion...

  • @suopiskelija They do Hohn had the old jav record and Zelezny has the modern jav record.

  • @TrackDaddy97

Zelezny - one of the most widely respected and liked athletes of all time. He was a great representative of the sport.

  • @soulrebelggg I hope YOU are aware that the weight of the javelin has always been 800g. The new one is just front heavy so it dives quicker.

  • There's no different between the NEW and OLD implements in terms of weight and length. It's just the centre of gravity which was moved a little bit forward in order to reduce the 'floating" effect. That's it.

  • I've met this guy before....he is still big

  • usain bolt ran half that distance in the time the javelin was in the air for.

  • ok to clear it up: in the 80´s the javelins were not the same as today. that means you can throw more metres. This is not the today world record, this is in the 80`s

  • The longest javelin throw ever was at least 112 meters by Miguel de la Quadra Salcedo using Félix Erausquin style that was banned by IAAF. I heard rumors about throws longer than 120 meters up to 128 meters although not confirmed. This happend in the 50s and 60s...

  • holy crap

  • Amazing technique! Nobody throws javelin that far without great technique. Hohn's hand was fast as shark and reminds me of Seppo Raty's and Jan Zelezny's "handwork". I'm pretty sure Uwe used to do steroids but have to say also that world was pretty different back then. Even with steroids, this is superb and perfect throw by one of all time greatest javelin thrower.

  • wow! good

  • nearly threw it on the other side.

  • Why is everyone only commenting that Zelezny holds the WR and how far they can throw?! Just comment something useful!

  • if he'd thrown that javelin a further 10 feet it would've killed one of those guys

  • To you young or ignorant dip-shits...Uwe Hohn's 1984 record was set with an 800 gram javelin...the SAME weight as today's javelins. What changed in 1986 was the distribution of the diametral dimensions (diameter of the javelin) along the length of the javelin. The weight and length of the javelin is the same as today's models. The change has the effect of changing the lift & drag characteristics of the javelin due to the effective move of the center of mass relative to the center of pressure.

  • Omg!!! The range of motion of his hand is huge!!! Perfect technique!!!

  • That would be a badass way to take someone out. Cooler than throwing knives even.

  • @matzner21

die haben auch mit dem alten speer die tore für der arena geöffnet, ransenehizung angemacht usw. damit mehr aufwind kommt

  • everybody is wrong, actually what they did was make the throwers throw the javelin tail first, this made it fly not so far. Hohn cheated, there was a little rocket in his javelin, you can see it fire-up when he releases the implement.

  • i had no idea prior to watching this vid that stadium is represented as stadium in plural lol

  • the everlasting record

  • AHAHAH, " the stadium are not big enoug h to hold the javelin anymore" GRAMMAR FAIL

  • the grass heating was on and the doors were open, so the javelin flew very good

  • Sure maybe Zelezny threw relatively further, but Uwe Hohn was 22 years old right here and improved the WR with 16 ft. That's like Bolt in Beijing, only that this world record would imply an equivalent three tenths of a second WR improvement in the 100m dash.

  • ive thrown 125

  • @kane916 feet

  • no meters

  • inch?

  • i just said meters

  • I bet if a american would have thrown that far you would all be "WOW AWESOME LOOK !!" , but since its a german, ahh no zelseni !!!! noo too light not a javelin!!! Steroids lol etc etc...

  • what weight should my first javelin be?

    5''4 115lbs STARTER

i hav never thrown a javelin but i really want to get into this sport.

  • It depends what age you are!

  • Javelin weight is not determined by height or weight. Its done on age. The heaviest one which the males throw at the olympics is 800gms. After that im not sure, im a hammer thrower :P

  • Actualy it is the world record... But with the old javelin. Zelezni has the record with the new javelin. They both hold different records.

  • I hope you all aware that Jan Zelezny has the Javelin World Record and NOT Uwe Hohn. The Javelin that Uwn Hohn threw was to light so it WASN'T a World Record.

  • No the jav was 800g it was just weighted more towards the back of the jav. Today the weight is more centered.

  • @TrackDaddy97 You are right.

  • @TrackDaddy97 You are right.

  • Wrong. Read up on it before making stupid comments.

  • no I'm right cause my post was from the mouth of olympic coaches and several other coaches

  • No I'm agreeing with you Trackdaddy97, soulrebelggg I was confronting, Uwe Hohn does hold a world record for the javelin throw, just not the current one, his has now become everlasting persay due to the change in weight after his 104.80m throw.

  • I just though it was directed at me since it was a reply to my post.

  • @TrackDaddy97

    ... akward

  • @TrackDaddy97 well now that that's settled...

  • @eltomo13

There hasnt been any changes in the weight of the javelin! They have only centerd the weight more so it wont fly that well.

And if it would bw heavier then the risk of injury´s would have increased.

  • @soulrebelggg Why are people uprating this response of soulrebelggg, because it's wrong! The response of trackdaddy97 is correct, the weight was more centered after the redesign. no weight changes.

  • @soulrebelggg

I hate people like you =)

  • @soulrebelggg it wasnt to light ;s it was just another CENTRE OF GRAVITY... bort are 800grams but they changed the centre of gravity just because they knew that people was going to threw longer than a soccer arena...

  • @soulrebelggg Uwe Hohn's record only applies to the old rules javelin. The old rules javelin also weighed 800g, but the weight was distributed more toward the back. New rules javelins turn over faster during flight which cuts down on the distance they fly. The new rules javelin WR is Jan Zelezny's 98.48 meter throw.

Both are world records in their own respect . . . but look more into Zelezny and you'll realize he is a freak of nature

  • @soulrebelggg The javelin wasnt too light. The centre of gravity was just moved forward to bring the new javelin down sooner. But Zelezney is the current record holder

  • @soulrebelggg it wasnt to light, it just the javelin's weight distribution that was different

  • @soulrebelggg You're an idiot

  • The Staduim is not big enough to hold the Javelin any more lol

  • i just wonder, greeks, romans and all the other great empires... threw the spear this far???

  • they didnt have steroids back then :P

    hahaha

  • Greeks threw the javelin with a leather wrap that allowed them to spin better, but they did not have the techology to build a modern jav nor the training (nor the huge gene pool) to throw this far. Nonetheless, the limited historical record suggests the ancients were pretty impressive with their throws (perhaps 150-200 feet).

  • Ok, checked THE SOURCE. H.A. Harris, GREEK ATHLETES AND ATHLETICS. Indiana U Press, 1964. According to Harris, the ancient greek, using a thong around the javelin that increases distance by no more than 20%, threw about a 700g elderwood, 8 foot javelin 300 feet! That would be 240 feet without the thong, and about 210 feet if you bump it up to 800g. Or somewhat farther. So I was off.

  • The javelin was redesigned so that the centre of gravity was moved 4 cm forward, further away from the center of pressure (the point at which the aerodynamic forces of lift and drag act), so that the javelin had an increased downward pitching moment. This brings the nose down earlier, reducing the flight distance by around 10% but also causing the javelin to stick in the ground more consistently. In 1999, the women's javelin (600g, 1.32lb) was similarly redesigned

  • On April 1, 1986, the men's javelin (800g, 1.76lb) was redesigned by the governing body (the IAAF Technical Committee). They decided to change the rules for javelin construction because of the increasingly frequent flat landings and the resulting discussions and protests when these attempts were declared valid or invalid by competition judges. The world record had also creept up to a potentially dangerous level, 104.80 meters by Uwe Hohn.

  • COG of the javelin was moved forward following this competition by means of moving the cord closer to the tip. Source(s): 3 years training for javelin, top 5 in country.

  • you idiot jan zelezny holds the wr

  • with the new rules javelin this is the all time record old rules javelin same weight 800 grams just that they moved the center of gravity forward to make it dump quicker having a better chance at point first landings

  • Ummmmmmm wow much, I can't even make the damn javelin go in the ground right!

  • how much did it weigh back then if they said they were gunna icrease the javleins weight

  • They still weight the same at 800g it was just where the jav was weighted heavier. Before it was further back so it flew much farther now it's closer to the tip

  • why dont u americans shut the fuck up slaughtering the british language, and stop changing every word to ur fuckin liking, its not ur language!

  • Comment removed

  • well thanks for proving my point doctor dickhead.

  • Britishers? Do you have learning difficulties?

  • well sotp tlkng lik ths wen u do.

Honestly, if you are going to insult the language use of a group of people, it would be for the best if you spoke in the manner you told others to speak...

  • im not exactly spelling words wrong am i...im just abbreviating them :S

  • especially using that f word shows the expanse of your vocabulary and intelligence

  • f word linked to low intelligence and such?!, i highly doubt it

  • I'm not even born yet and i can still throw a javelin over 60m with my opposite arm, whilst standing still and shaving....but i dont wanna brag....

  • wow look at the amount of braggers on this page i bet most of them are liers

  • aha. i love reading youtube comments.

  • im 15 and i won my provincials last year with a throw of 55.12 m, just KILLING my personal best of 49.64 before that.

  • oh shut the fuck up i can type random numbers on the keyboard and follow that number with the word "PB" aswell...u fuckin asshole

  • I'm 11 years old and I can throw 800g 85m!!!!!

Nobody cares about your sport accomplishments, whine about that somewhere else.

  • i'm 3 years old and my personal best is about 100m with 1kg!!! hahaha

  • So apparently we are increasing the weight of the javelins to accommodate these steroid pushers instead of cracking down on them.

  • No they are not increasing the weight they just changed the weighting on the jav from further back to further foward.

  • No. They did the same with discus, its just to keep it more manageable and so less people qualify. Less people to mark and so forth.

  • im 13 and im in grade eight, i threw in the provincials at 12 37 metres and came 4th, but i should win this year considering i was an underage last year and now i have thrown over the provincial record of 45.5 metres :), watch for me in the papers

  • what weight was the javelin he used?

    does anyone know?

  • It was 800g but the weight on the jav was further back where it is further foward now.

  • ooh right thanks i thought that they just changed the weight

  • i can throw 650grams 36m and im 16

  • tero pitkämäki can throw 110 with that javelin

  • ya they changed the javelins specifications so athlets dont throw this much

  • it isen't even a beautiful throw

  • no it isn't..! but that's not the important thing, as long as he throws far. I don't think his potential result is much further.

  • :P.

  • uwe once told that he threw new javelin about 91m?

  • ah ok so the record in this video is not official record?thanks

  • The record was 'reset' when the specification of the Javelin was changed in the rulebooks.

  • but the record is from Jan Železný with 98,48 m?

    what is this??

  • They changed the equipment after this.

  • east germany aka steroids....

  • CORRECTION: when East Germany opened up the athletes' records, athletes' training regimens were made public, including use of performance enhancing drugs and Hohn was not in the books. With nothing to hide and everything to gain from honesty at the time, we can surmise Hohn was clean. A consistent 90m+ thrower just hit the big one. We've all done it. Only problem for me was my big one was 70m, not 104! Not the greates thrower in history, that's zelezny, but perhaps the greatest throw.

  • wow, and american talking about steroids and cheating on sports... Almost everybody takes them in the olympics, from every country... so who cares? well, you and some of other FOX news tools like you...

  • I dont take them and I have scored over 7500 in the decathlon which is solid and I'm proud of the fact i dont take roids, I can sleep on the fact that everything I accomplish is me accomplishing rather than a substance making me look better than i actually am

  • @matzner21 Isn't that ironic? I mean you being american and all =/

  • @matzner21 Hahahaha and you are american? :)

  • @matzner21 Be my guest and start using steroids, tell us when you throw 105m

  • @matzner21 even with steroids 104,80m is sick lol !

  • when i throw a javelin, it spins crossways.

  • Your not sposed to throw it like a hammer throw, slightly different;) lol

  • my dad at 15 threw 65m

  • do you feel more popular now?

  • and does he make you live his dream in his place?

  • there is a 12 year old kid at my school who can throw 45m+

  • i can nearly do that :p but im nearly 14 lol

  • yeah, after this world record, the IAAF, concerned about its safety, introduced a new javelin that had a lower center of mass, which significantly decreased the decreased the length of trajectory( I think 15 meters or so). But Jan Zelezny did a 98.48m throw.

  • that was not a allowed throw, cos the wind blowed behind him. (Sorry i dont know the word for that, but if some finn reads this i mean myötätuuli.)

  • You have no clue what you're talking about.

  • then why jan zelezny has the world record 98.8meters?.

  • i checked thats the world record indeed, with the old javelin type. The current world record is jan zeleznys 98.48.

  • im sorry but ur an idiot

the guy even said on this, "the weight of the javelin will be increased."

the record with the old jav was 104.80 by Uwe Hohn, and the record with the new jav is 98.48 by Jan zelezny.

  • oh sorry i didnt see this comment...it seems im the idiot here

    sorry about that

  • Im 14 im going to be a freshman, how far should i be throwing?

    Message me please.

  • at least over 35 if you want to be good. at 15 i could throw around 42-43, just keep practicing

  • im only 12 and i can throw about 26.5m

  • "the stadium are not big enough to hold the javelin anymore"

  • we with 700 51 m..

but i have a lession and i cant throw more xD

  • EXCME, THAT WAS FUCKING SHIT THROW, IF ELF TERO PITKÄMÄKI THROW WITH THAT JAVELIN ITS ABOUT 120M :DD SO... löl ;> i throw with new javelin 600gr 64, and with old 600gr 76 so... :D

  • how old are you? 15? nice personal record :D my best with 600gr was 45,90 2 years ago :$

  • are you idiot? Tero dont throw 100meters and you are talking 120m, think a little before you write here

  • you should read, he's talking if tero would trow with an OLD javelin he would trow 120m...

  • don`t think so, right now people are not stronger than 25 years ago!

  • though the trow of hugh was ugly...

Look at it, no good tactic...

With the old javelin they trew much further. They might get 110m. But I think the 120m was just overdone.

  • Dont know, but i think he wount throw that long :)

  • lol being strong is not the most important thing for javeling ._. u need speed. !

  • Not only speed, skill and strenght are important too, when you focus them all, then its good!

  • ... and technique

  • Imagine what Zelezny would've been able to do with that javelin in his prime... 98.48 with the new one!

  • dude wtf?

  • "the stadium are not big enough to hold the javelin anymore" lol what a surprise he's american

  • you say hes american no wonder americans are soooooo fat they needed to make stadiums bigger

  • This guy Uwe Hohn is a German thrower not American get your facts right

  • You are fucking retarded... what does fat have to do with bigger stadiums... dont be fucking stupid.

  • Big stadiums or not. Americans are still fat fucks. look out your windo.. what do you see?

  • Window??? I see a big backyard, a river and a bunch of trees.... Yeah most of the country is fat. But it has nothing to do with javelins and stadiums.... Let talk about how british people cant throw

  • last time i checked...im not fat, hmm

  • take a look at your mum then. bit of an eye operner there,

  • LOL You said, your "mum" ha ha ha ha i wanna hear your little accent. My mom is ~60kg lol

  • mine is 55 xD

  • yea im up for that haha, british people are all fucked up. haha (i am Australian)

  • you like fat wieners

  • Thanks for the info I'll switch the up right away.

  • he used a pacer held customlll which is a 800 gram javelin not a 700 gram
