  • Karen looks so beautiful in this clip, she looks like a Disney Princess! :) love the purple dress.

  • I thought this was a historic moment in both music and entertainment as three legends performed together.

  • Is it me, or does Ahston Kutcher strongly resemble Richard Carpenter? Especialy now with his long hair.

  • Wow!! That woman had an angel like voice. It came so effortless

  • did the station lose itself?..... Carol and Karen.. what a pair

  • I'm kind of amazed at how well they melded together. People forget that Richard could sing. I do sometimes. Great Medley of tunes.

  • Karen looks so beautiful in this clip, she looks like a medieval princess in her purple dress, its beautiful! purple is also my favorite color too. I also love her hairstyle too, so classic! :)

  • Richard sounds very good here!

  • Que fofos!

  • Now tell me, where is such talent found on today's television? it's not. Just a bunch of crap. Where have these days gone?

  • @plojka1 hey, but we have all these dark edgy shows to watch now....... Carol is wonderful as is Karen..

  • I wish we could go back to the days free huey was the rebels spoke out drunk driving was not an issue( I'm against drunk driving) I mean that was simple food prices were ok,Sanfod & son was big on t.v. alone with Chico and the man... man a time life classic

  • THIS WAS AMAZING.

This was real music. The Carpenters were genius!

  • I haven't seen this since it aired. I used to write to Carol Burnett and ask her to have the Carpenters back on her show! She always replied to my letters and answered all my other questions, but she never mentioned the Carpenters.

  • OK Richard...I know your career only existed because of your sister but dude, you really don't need to sing lead EVER mkay?

  • THIS IS AWESOME :O A LIVE "REMIX" :D :D :D

    BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • The 3 of them are amazing entertainers with great singing voices. Richard is so handsome, Karen was so beautiful, and Carol still has that witty charm that makes us all continue to love her. She has to have the greatest sense of humor of anyone I've ever known of.

  • Thank You ssoko. I Never Saw This. Are The Carpenters Better Ever Than when Young and Beautiful. +Carol Must Have Made Them seem So Safe On Stage. To Be So Natural. All 3.

  • @justinjameswest This was one of a few shows where TV didn't mishandle them, they were treated very well on the Carol Burnett show & even got their own directors chairs.

  • karen carpenter had the most beautiful voice <3 x

  • @TeeneyBop1976 you have excellent taste! :-)

  • This must be the medley that was referred to in Ray Coleman's book where Karen remarked to Richard it wasn't as well-done as the previous Bacharach medley: "Richard shot back tartly that she did not know what she was talking about; she should just concentrate on her singing. 'So what am I--just the dumb singer?' drawled Karen. 'Yeah, that's right,' retorted a testy Richard, regretting his words even as he spoke . . . Karen started to cry. 'Oh Richard...'" [Richard felt "like hell."]

  • GREAT love this! Karen looks amazing here, stunning! purple was a great color on here!

  • It's a Paul Williams/Roger Nichols medley. Good stuff!

  • This, I think, was from Richard and Karen's second Burnett appearance, on Jan. 19, 1972. Both this and their prior appearance on Sept. 22, 1971 are from shows that are co-owned by Bob Banner whose company co-produced "The Carol Burnett Show" in its first five seasons (1967-72) - and thus none of us will get to see the full shows with these moments on DVD.

  • Richard was looking so young and handsome here.

  • @HattieLovesCattie I know!! So cute ♥

  • Karen looks so great here, healthy and sounding great! I love that purple dress she has on, she looks like a princess! she always looked the best with the long hair and half pulled up style! GREAT TIMELESS STYLE

  • RIP Karen Carpenter

  • Richard ruined it

  • @lcd2201 and @flippyflyer I agree

  • Love early Carpenters .. so much more energy and rhythm. Nice trio. "Let Me Be the One' was not great Carpenters and "Old Fashioned Love Song" is a cover of 3 Dog Night but it works.

  • Richard is flat...lets the ladies sing Richard...

  • This is unusual for the time period because these are real live vocals with a real live orchestra, not lip synking to the record. It's a shame there aren't shows like this anymore.

  • LOve Love

  • Wonder what they were looking at while singing. Were they reading the lyrics on the paper? Thanks for sharing.

  • Loved seeing Karen at her finest. She is sorely missed.

  • Karen is an angel :) I really love her :)

  • That's fun to watch ... thanks for posting! Karen's cute and it's really good to see all of them play off each other.

  • Good to see them all having fun :) Saturday night TV was the best back then!

  • What a delightful medley. They blend so well. I miss Karen so much!

  • the melody in this song SO sounds like the red hot chilli peppers song. i think they ripped it off a little (the video with them at the beach)

  • LOVE IT ;) thanks for sharing :)

  • I'm paying attention to only RICHARD for some reason.

  • OMG this is awesome!!!!!

  • This was so cool to see! Karen looks beautiful here! Sounds amazing! They look like they were having a blast! Breathtaking!

  • @mg655321 Yes it was before she went skinny. Ah, so awful; not because she didn't look attractive but that a talented, young life was cut short.

  • This is the Richard I love....^.^

  • MTV get off the air. Bring this stuff back.

    This was music and entertainment.

When I put the TV on today, I wanna put a gun to my head.

  • WOOOOOOOOOW SOOOOOO COOOOOOOOL THANX

  • HELLO! karen is not only a great singer but very kindhearted and very beautiful. as her brother richard had an obligation to protect his sister with his own life. i know i would as i have an older sister. he failed,i did not!

  • i love Karen's smile. Not only does it show how much fun she's having, but it also indicates how much she enjoys Carol having fun too. Her whole persona is so comfortable, welcoming, and warm. If she had wanted to, she could have overpowered Carol with her voice. She doesn't because A) she's a nice person and B) they are the guests. Hence, Karen behaves as a guest should.

  • What talent they had!

  • WOW

  • Karen was so beautiful.

  • Just an old fashion love song....woa woa woa waaaa.

Oh well, ppl...I love to include this in our Tribute =) !!!

Hi once more, my name is Julie Moon Aka - Karen Spirit

and this is the Ultimate Karen Carpenters Tribute!

    Happy day to everybody!

  • Karen looks so happy here. She's having so much fun. Richard too.

  • That's pretty impressive. The Carpenters were just about as flawless as any two singers could be, but Carol holds her own! Nice sounding trio!

  • cool how he drops out at :42 for a beat, barbershop chords at 1:13 interesting, and this is the genius of karen carpenter--obviously singing live, she produces an unreal machine-like duplication of the recorded track "we've only just begun"-- at 1:22--consistent perfection. her voice is sweet at 3:03 and 3:19 where unfortunately burnett is a little pitchy, although burnett is hitting at 1:58, but not at 4:21--eeek!

  • Karen and the Carpenters will live on in our hearts forever.

  • Haha...Karen, Carol and Richard...great singes

  • no other female alto touches me like Karen, if she was here today she would be still thrilling our hearts with her talent!

  • she was so pretty & lovely as ever:) luv u KC!

  • My mom got me hooked on the Carpenters when I was a kid. I think Karen has the most beautiful voice. I also love Carol.

  • Huge Carpenters fan, which brought me to this clip... Forgot how musically talented Carol Burnett is. Everyone knows her for her comedy, but damn! She could sing. Love this "golden age" of TV where original arrangements were written "in 3-part harmony" Kudos to Carol Burnett.

  • It's interesting to note that in the movie " The Karen Carpenter Story.." there is a line by Karen where she states that she has a purple dress that looks better then the yellow one she had one to a friend backstage before a concert.. I wonder if this is the dress she was talking about...

  • Muito legal ver esses videos do passado.

    Boas lembranças The Carpenters.

    I love it. GREAT!

  • OMG, I love this clip KAREN WAS SO DAMN GOOD! I MISS HER SO MUCH, I LOVE THAT DRESS KAREN HAS ON, PURPLE IS ALSO MY FAVORITE COLOR TOO, SHE LOOKS LIKE A MEDEIVAL PRINCESS HERE! JUST TIMELESS AND FLAWLESS! LOVE YOU KAREN!

  • Thanks for posting. This is awesome. Love the three of them.

  • Thank you so much for this...

  • Three part harmony!

  • i quite like the Carpenters, but that starting song is pants

  • Aewsome

  • GREAT!

  • Que epocas tan desenfadadas, viviamos antes , no cabe duda .

  • Thank you for the video! I love the Carpenters' songs.

  • Go richard!

  • Nothing better as a little kid than staying up late and seeing the Carol Brunett show.

  • karen sings like an angel from heaven !!!! and she sings very beautiful !!!!!!!!!

  • Richard has such a great tie doesnt he? LOL. Karen's voice is like a angel souring above the rest. Carol has had singing lessons, but she still is good, but her voice does not touch Karen's :)

LOVE THIS- thanks for posting :)

  • aaayyyy! Karen inmediatamente se siente la hermosura de tu voz!

  • rich looks like a bit of a spaz when he sings lol

  • She wore a "fall," which is a hairpiece attached to the back, so it's kinda the long piece.

Carol was an okay, singer, but it's the Carpenters, and Karen especially that were huge SUPERSTARS of the 1970's onwards...

  • Carol was a comedienne, not a singer. She sang, and she obviously had voice lessons, but she does not have a good natural singing voice. Karen on the other hand never had voice lessons, but her voice was naturally beautiful, unlike Carol's.

  • Lol. I'm sorry !!! Iwatched Anne last night with my niece, and her role as... You know her caractor. Anyway I , I just pictured Carol trying to over shadow Karen and her Brother. Looking for exception like her caractor did.

  • Old Fashioned Love Song, We've Only Just Begun, I Keep On Loving You and Let Me Be The One"-

  • I loved this but it also just made me song that the world lost such a talent in Karen

  • Wow! what a treat! thank you SO MUCH to whoever uploaded this! You can't imagine todays' 'celebrities' singing live with no pre-recorded backup, you can tell they all enjoyed this, SSOKO i love you for uploading this!!

  • Absolute perfection vocally! But if you view at about 0:49 you will notice that Karen flubbed her line.

Just proves to show that everything was done live on that show, unlike many shows of today.

  • That was not a flub; it was intentional. This was not a live telecast. If there was a real mistake, it would have been filmed again.

  • They do not always restart. The variety shows were usually done twice, in front of two different audiences. This is how the Carol Burnett show was done. ((I worked in television back then, BTW.)) But rarely did they stop the show for a retake. That is what gives the "live" feel to these types of shows. GREAT TALENT all around.

  • karen spirit

  • the world never back to write beautiful songs ...

i need to make something about...

  • would you mind me asking, what are you talking about?

  • CAROL! The harmonies are outstanding!

  • Carol Burnett and the Carpenters both some of the greatest talents from our time!

  • And oh! Carol also looks beautiful here.

  • Karen looks so beautiful here. I super love her hair (roll eyes). We miss you. See you on the other side.

  • Hey Stephen. This second appearance on the Carol Burnett show was filmed on the 19th January 1972. Karen didn't have her hair cut short until April for the Grammy Awards. Hope this helps. I have it on DVD.

  • Where can i buy or download dvd's?

  • It's not commercially available on DVD. Mine is a bootleg.

  • @karencarpenterdotcom - It AIRED on Jan. 19, 1972. It was videotaped at CBS Television City on Jan. 7, 1972 - 12 days prior to airtime.

What I'm interested in are the end credits of BOTH Burnett shows on which the Carpenters appeared.

  • I love Karen thanks!

  • That was FUN as hell! I miss variety shows...

  • Karen still is the best!

  • Still the best and ALWAYS will be. Karen was so amazing. In every way.

  • karen is a goddess

  • Very nice. Thanks for posting.

  • I must say Karen sings better versions of her songs LIVE compared to her studio recordings..goosebumps..oh my..Karen..irreplaceable!!!

  • I agree!!yes!!!she really sounded more good than to her studio recordings

  • God...Karens voice. Just gives me chills. What a gift.

  • I agree. Karen has soul.

  • a very lovely video..

karen was indeed gorgeous here!!!this is what you call entertainment. love it and these three really made sense, maybe if she was still here, there'd be more videos like this that will be done!!

    love and miss her terribly!!!

  • wow what a rare treat this is. i was mesmerized and touched by their performance. i wish i was born during this time. theres no one that can beat THE Carpenters. they wil always be great. I love Carol so much. there is no one like her. She is so beautiful, talented and sooooooooooo funny. :)

  • it always makes me wonder how karen's hairstyle was done.can somebody help me?look at karen here, she loves to move and express how joyful she is to have carol as her duet.she seems to be moving all the way.i love her voice.she's truly an angel sent from God to give us beautiful songs to sing and to remember all the time.i wish she was still here singing and making some new songs.we miss you sorely karen!lucky to have you in the music industry and ofcourse in our hearts!-karmela from philippines.

  • Wow, I love The Carpenters and this was a rare treat. Obviously, Carol can hold her own vocally (case in point, that last note). True, you don't see entertainment like this on TV anymore.

  • the we've only just begun insert at 4:05 nearly throws them off. funny.

  • Yes. You're very observant.

  • LOL. Hey, I watched so much Carpenters footage on YouTube I should know by now.

  • Oh Karen, you had a gorgeous voice!

  • Yes, Richard was/is a man of MANY talents: songwriter, pianist, conductor/arranger, and record producer. But this was a rare & worthy treat for us to be entertained by his vocal knacks which he's been blessed with as well. I'm glad his mic was set where it was. Also gotta admit, he never looked better than he did back then when they were in their prime of their careers - young, fresh, and perky.

  • I have noted that Karen missed her mark singing the word "rambles" at 0:49 with her duet with Ms Carol Burnett.

It would be nice to have a high quality version of this footage, they sure don't do variety shows like this anymore!

  • Yea, "Islezeus."

  • I love Karen Carpenter...she truely has the voice of an angel, so crystal clear, so soothing, I'll remember them both, Harvey for the laughs, Karen for her stunning voice!

  • You know Carol doesn't belong there with Ms. Karen!

  • it looked to me like Karen was alittle shy around Carol and that Carol was intimidated by the power of Karen's voice.

  • I know, I was just kidding anyway about the Carol and Karen hing. Guess we have a few Carol fanatics on this video.

  • Even though the Mic on Richard should have been turned down a couple of notches....it's an amazing Trio up there on stage......very cool how it all seems to 'work' for them. It also gives us more insight into Richard's vocal role in the group cuz you hear him so overpoweringly...

  • Karen and Carol don't quite seem to know what to with their hands at the beginning. This is interesting, with respect to their 1971 appearance, in which Karen is looking at her fingers or hand at the beginning....

  • "Islezeus"- Why don't you just shut up and step aside? Carol Burnett is just as amazingly talented as the Carpenters!

  • Very cute ending...if you ever wondered why Richard was always in the background playing keyboard and blending his vocals every so softly into Karen's...... NOW YOU KNOW ! :D Karen was drowned out by both of them...but this was great to hear if only for the confirmation of her amazing voice and spirit.

  • I Truely Love The Carpenters!

  • I really like The Carpenters!

  • Too bad Richard's mic was too loud, and Karen's wasn't loud enough... but nice clip.

  • back then there was only one mic, it was above them, the tallest one is the closest to the mic.

  • Thanks to Youtube, I can see this video clip

I saw it when it was broadcast and always remembered it.

  • Comment removed

  • This is great! Thanks for posting it. Surprisingly, Karen repeatedly acts like she's directing it. Also, it evidently was NOT lip-synced, as Karen misses singing the word "rambles" at :49.

  • This aired on CBS in January, 1972. It was their second appearance on "The Carol Burnett Show". They also performed their new single, "Hurting Each Other" on the same telecast.

  • that was so cool!!

  • According to Richard in the book Carpenters the Untold Story, he had a tiff with Karen on the medley for this show and called Karen dumb. She cried and they made up later. They also allude to it in the Jerry Dunphy special.

  • I love this video and Carol was fabulous as always!

  • Oh that was neat. Thanks. I must have been too young to watch that. I love the Carpenters and Carol ! That was special to see.

  • Great video thanks

  • i have never ever heard a karen Carpenter song with out thinking, gosh, too bad she still cant be with us and give us some more!

  • Richard's microphone was a bit too loud !!

  • Unfortunately, Richard overpowered Karen and Carol at times here....

  • thanks for posting - I loved it. Cheers!
