1 Are the paddles of hihat contrller and kick included in the package?
2 u have shown us that u can switch between hihat controls up to double kick controls, so how would u be able to control the double kick and the hihat at the same time?
3 when we hit a snare or hihat at different positions they make different sounds according to the sensitivity or positioning of the stick impact, does DD65 respond in a similar way to playing and produces the same sound?
Question: To get double bass, could I possibly purchase another bass pedal for the yamaha DD65 and then hook both of them up to a Y in/out wire and then connect it into the Yamaha DD65 - thus having 2 velocity bass pedals and 1 open/close hi-hat pedal?
i wanna learn drums and this will be the first drum that i'll ever have... i live in a small apartment and this is my only hope to learn drums ! or i can go weekly to a drum room and rent it hourly !

He says you can pack this up and bring it to a jazz gig. Riiiiiiiiiiight! I'd be laughed off the stage if I showed up to play jazz with this thing. Or how about that hot Salsa band down the corner? They'd throw their congas at you if you trotted this thing out. Still, it would be fun to have around the house for jamming. Wow, though! Those percussion sounds are really sweet.
How is this for an absolute beginner? Does it help you build enough of the basics/foundation such that it translates halfway well to a real kit in a jam situation? I would imagine this would be about $150 used and a larger electronic kit (e.g. DTXPLORER based) might be about $300 used.
I would recommend you purchase a DTXplorer because at least on that, the pads are bigger and have a better stick response than these. That's just my opinion, though...lol.
Thanks for the extensive review. I'm a beginning bass player, and see learning something about the drum parts as essential. There is a bass book "Bass Grooves: Develop Your Groove and Play Like the Pros in Any Style Book/CD" that gives a great tie in to drums, but you need a drum kit to use it effectively. So I got on Youtube to see demos of drum kits to decide what to buy. The DD65 looks like a great option.
I used to have the DD55, but returned it because of a pretty huge issue (to me at least). If I would play two sounds at the same time, it would occasionally cut out one of the sounds. It wouldn't do it all the time, but enough to make it a dealbreaker. It also did this with the floor model, so I know it wasn't just my particular kit. Does anyone know if the DD65 still does this? To me, it seems like it still does this - look at 5:19 in the video - 2 consecutive "non-sounds" from the snare
@transparent101 Mine also mutes one of the sounds when two pads are hit at the same time, but i turned up the sensitivity of the pads and it doesnt happen as often now.
Here's the answer I got back from an e-mail I sent to Yamaha recently regarding up-grading the pedals. Can anyone explain to me what exactly I need for the bass drum pedal because I do not know what they mean by "optional foot pedal" ?
The optional foot controllers for the DD65 are
Hi-Hat Controller HH65
Kick Pad KP65 - Optional Foot Pedal is necessary when using the optional
ii also want to know the model of the pedals that you are using.. im happy with the kit but not the pedal.. its ok though but ii want to upgrade just like yours.. please tell me the model, thankyou.
Thanks for the Demo, I brought my son this for christmas on the strength of this video. I would like to up-grade the foot pedals to the ones you are using. Will you please tell me the models of the pedals I need to buy and also the stand for the DD65. I am not a drummer so will you please explain things simply. Many thanks, Phil from the U.K.
I have the dd55 and I use the dd65 because a friend gave me one, but comparing, the upgrades of the new dd65 is not the big deal, the sounds are not so good especially the snare. the sounds of te dd55 and dd65 are exactly the same, Yamaha makes the same mistakes in both digital drums;Nice, make upgrades, but don´t forget the sound, believe me, the sounds are not good. Roland have a better sound...
I need help guys, I just ordered this from amazon, but it says on amazon yamaha DD 65 - K is this the same or is the yamaha DD 65 better? or the same? I heard there was a problem with one version or something?
Great demo. I think Santa will bring me one of these this year.
Why not make attachable "add-on" accessories that can be "plugged in" and attached , such as a 3 set of toms (for example) on its own mounting, that can be attached in order to "grow" the set... Seems like a profitable idea, right??
One of the best tips is the snare drum stand. There is no indication what so ever in the hand book for this. I bought an inexpensive solid snare stand it it works like a treat.
I suggest to upgrade to pedals. The simple step on triggers are just toys.
Looks like a neat thing...but i rather sit behind a real drumset then something like this xD dont get me wrong it looks fun.....but to have the better sound and feel you rather should throw in a little more money
Hey i'm thinking about getting this. Can you change what drums are where? I would like my hi-hat on the other side and would like to have the pedals set up like double bass. Is that possible on here?
does it also sound like a real drum kit?or does it sound very synthetic?? looking for a as real sound as i can get without spending to much!! which is probably asking alot
It CAN be used in gigz. Just bring a midi i/o & laptop with an "EZ Drummer/Superior Drummer" software installed in it and your good to go~ So don't you call this a toy~..xD
This thing looks like a pretty good buy. Especially for someone who isn't sure about getting into a full electronic kit, or doesn't have the room for one.
The demo guy cracks me up with his rock faces when playing!
No way the guitar hero or Rock Band setup is nearly as good: No internal sounds, no midi out, no pressure sensitivity. You couldn't use the Guitar Hero or Rock Band setup to do anything having to do with real music recording.
Plus I have seen folks use this as their Rock Band controller: and it allows you to get drum sounds that respond to your playing, whereas the game just plays the drum track for you if you are winning. This gives you real sounds and real interactivity, a great addition.

haha the snare!! im happy with my dd-11!! nearly 20 years old and isnt too far behind. i always thought the DD series would turn into a proper drum workstation with a colour lcd screen and composing abilities.. but no we get a snare stand and a 3.5mm line in. its only good for people wanting "NEW" crap!.
Get an older model from ebay convert it into a I/O module (wich is CHEAP n EASY), make some triggers or add some piezos to your real drums then hook the midi to a V-Box or laptop. bobsurunK

I had a DD55 and it fit on a snare stand perfectly. The thing stopped working after a couple years, though.

If you connect and MP3 player, can you also isolate the rhythm set of the track playing, or is it only possible with the 100 built-in songs?

haha the snare!! im happy with my dd-11!! nearly 20 years old and isnt too far behind. i always thought the DD series would turn into a proper drum workstation with a colour lcd screen and composing abilities.. but no we get a snare stand and a 3.5mm line in. its only good for people wanting "NEW" crap!.
Get an older model from ebay convert it into a I/O module (wich is CHEAP n EASY), make some triggers or add some piezos to your real drums then hook the midi to a V-Box or laptop. bobsurunK

Yes, you can record if you plug a stereo cable from the output to your computer. If you got a Mac, you can use it with Garage Band.

Can you adjust the pad sensitivity? It seems like the snare was missing a lot. Other than that it looks and sounds good.
