The year I was born... frightening! I loved Star Trek as a kid. Used to walk around the school playground with my trousers turned up trying to look like Kirk lol. Always remember my English teacher saying "Kirk should say "To go boldly..." NOT "To boldly go... his grammar is terrible" :-)
@argebarse I was talking about the melody not Shatners monologue, the "wordless" rendition of the melody line was sung by soprano Loulie Jean Norman. For the second season onwards, her vocals were dropped from the theme.
@Wilthain so was I, I was actually watching my TOS DVDs last night and I think you've got it the wrong way around. The melody line wasn't present in the Season 1 theme, and was added in for 2 and 3.
@Wilthain I just looked it up on the Star Trek wiki and went back to my non-remastered VHS tapes. The vocals were not there in the original Season 1 theme.
i distinctly remember as a kid spock falling in love saying "i will never love a woman" and being incacapated singing "i'll take you home again kathleen"cos we used to take the piss out off a friend who looked a lot like spock, also another episode where kirk goes onto a planet run by kids and they keep saying "boom boom"kirk responds saying"me me boom boom"hilareous
@hanghang71 Not Spock; Lieutenant Kevin Riley under the effects of the intoxicating water molecule in "The Naked Time," just before he shuts down the ship's engines in Engineering. The only episode in which I can remember Spock singing was the horrid third season's "Plato's Stepchildren" ("Bitter dregs ... bitter dregs!" which just about summed it all up).
If you listen carefully you can hear Mr Zulu whispering "Leonard,I'm ready" at 0:33. Apparently this was the famous Spock gloryhole scene that was wiped and the tape re-used for the theme.
the original and the motion pictures set the pace foe everything that followed. the Abrams effort places a higher standard once again. the ship has a linear fashion so as to mimic a seagoing vessel. this is only so we can relate to it. in a few generations we will be forced to mature, and will no longer consider guns and murders appropriate entertainment value. then we will begin to understand what is necessary to accept other worlds and people. right now we would only mock them, so until then..
The Original Shuttle Hangar Deck of the 1960s Enterprise is what made the shows Sets work as Much as teh Engine Room Set did. When you saw a Shuttle come Aboard or Depart, You believed this was something important and not something everyday and nothing major like on the Next Generation. A huge Shuttle Deck being Depressurized and the whole Ship's Crew taking note of the whole rear of the Ship opening up was impressive. This did not happen everyday...
when l first saw this l thought wow l want to watch telly every day,,l was never the same after it,,brilliant entertainment,,lost in space came very close,
William Shatner is 80 years old today ... how the hell can that be possible.
Leonard Nimoy will be 80 years old this Saturday ...
Here they are, as vibrant as ever ... and I'm the one who feels old!
I have loved Kirk and Spock now for about 41 of my 48 years, and rooted for Shatner's and Nimoy's career successes along the way. (Except "Barbary Coast." I needed that to fail for Shatner -- it could have nixed any Trek revival.)
this enterprise have a bad computer screen, and space ship is diferent then 1987 star trek 2. but when you see spock and kap, kirk together energize in other planet, filming location is somewhere in desert outside, like in planet.
star trek is the best, zulu chekov, spock, kp kirk, mccoy... maybe these series change future one day, i believe in that. that everbody go in space, alien exsist and find cure for cancer
@master82565 a lot of the old movies showed people traveling around in outer space far beyond the sun, and encountering fantastic creatures, in the far-off future. unfortunately, the far-off future was often in the 1980s or 1990s or shortly after the year 2000.
@coventrygardens yes you are right but this star track is in 21 century around 2070 i think, kirk is smart captain, but picard is brave and arogant, voyager i hate, but enterprise 3 only is good tpol... do you believe in warp energy someday
@master82565 i doubt that such things exist, or i doubt that humans will encounter such things. i'm not even so sure that humans have already landed on the moon. i have a feeling that the moon-landing was fake.
they are very old. - what is the difference between cyrano jones with a case of time-pieces and a klingon guard at rurapenthe? - one sells watches and the other watches cells.
just insert name in blank of joke. Sarak, Sulu, and Mc Coy went outside sharing only one umbrella, why did nobody get wet? - it was not raining.
i think the joke went something like, "question: why did the enterprise fly so well? Answer: because it always had a fresh supply of spock-plugs." it's a play on words because some persons pronounce "spark" in a way which, to some other persons, sounds like "spock".
@coventrygardens The other joke is, why is the star ship enterprise like toilet paper? Because it wipes out kling-ons. Why did captain kirk urinate on the ceiling? So he could "go" where no man has gone before.
@coventrygardens Can you imagine the artificial gravity shutting down while yer on the throne? That is why they probably use a modified shop-vac with unique attachments. (What's green and puffy and floats in hot co-co? - a martian-mellow.)
@dynagravitomagnetic i guess the urine and feces would be stored in a special compartment inside the space suit, and then it would be emptied at various times. it would be a crazy predicament, and a crazy man in outer space would be an astro-nut.
@dynagravitomagnetic in truth, that joke doesn't need to include mr. spock, and it doesn't need to include the rocket. "why did he throw the butter up into the sky?------ he did it for to see the butter fly." hey, did you make up these jokes that you've showed to me?--- or have they been roaming around for a while?
Long Overdue credit should be given to Lucille Ball and her Management of Desilu.
As one of the Board of Directors has been quoted, 'without Ms Ball there would not have been a Star Trek series'. After the first pilot flopped Ms Ball authorized a second pilot, very expensive to shoot and no promise it would ever sell. Star Trek was joined by another iconic Desilu series Mission Impossible to debut in the fall of 1966.
Desilu had 2 of the most important series in TV history debut in 1966
@AlistairAI actually it wasn't roddenberry's fault but the network running it at th etime that were to blame luckily it managed t earn itself a second chance through the movis which eventually helped the more modern Star Trek's t come in
@Tapwater2226 Yeah DeForest Kelley (Bones) was only intended to be a minor character at first with no much air time but the producers wisely increased his role.
OMG this always reminds me of the Dexter's Lab spoof and Dexter and his friends are going to a "space trek" convention and his mother is singing the theme song in the intro hahahahaha XD
Lieutenant James Kirk survived the attack on the Starship USS Farragut years before he took Command of the USS Enterprise. After the attack on the Farragut, Ship's Executive Officer Commander Ron Tracey was also bitter about the attack on the ship. He also wanted revenge for the death of Captain John T. Garrovick. Ron Tracey's anger started there. Exec Officer Tracey commended young James Kirk on doing his duty. Kirk would have been promoted to Lieutenant Commander on another Starship.
As a kid, I watched the episodes from 1990's and around 2000.
But this year, my mom ordered the seasons 1, 2 and 3, and those are actually more fun to watch, despite the fact there's not as good as effects as there are now in 2010.
:36 is one of the very few times you see what is supposed to be the "port" side of the Enterprise. That was the side of the model where the wiring was run, so they couldn't show it. When you see the port side, it's the starboard side of the ship (the one you normally see), with reversed decals. They filmed it, then flipped the film.
I bring a message to all hate what YouTube is becoming. I hate the new appearance of the viewing system, I hate the reorientation of the video selection, comments, and description system, and most importantly, I hate the new rating system. I will spread this message everywhere until the designers of YouTube will concede with my complaints and restore it all.
Awesome!!! Even though this is well over 40 years old-it still rocks...Shatner's Kirk and Nimoy's Spock are legends and the t.v show is a classic...Nuff said.
Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
I just love this show.None of the new actors can replace William Shatner(I have a crush on him :"> ),Leonard Nimoy or DeForest Kelley. The best SF show EVER!
I don't think it's better than Star Wars, for many reasons:most important is that the average audience can't really relate to any character because in Star Trek humans are dehumanized(they don't behave like real human, they mostly act like quire boys),also the enemies in ST are not that fearsome and a 'heroic show"is as good as the "heroic characters"&the "heroic characters"are only as good as the"antagonists"they eventually defeat, since the "heroes"have low-grade enemies=heroes are low-grade
Maybe so, unurautare, but it's all a matter of taste. Star Wars was and is much more about action, while Star Trek was more mature, focusing oftentimes on the psychological aspect. To each his own, but that's why I prefer Trek.
Ha! I knew it!!! it's "...to boldy go where no man has gone before.' Not "no one" as in the latest movie. Effin liberals, don't they understand the definition of "mankind" !! it's not sexist or discriminatory towards women!
Did you not even think about the fact that "mankind" excludes Spock? not just women. "no one" was first used in Star Trek VI and not to indicate the inclusion of women but the inclusion of aliens. It was then used in everything, including The Next Generation, not just the new movie.
Hey.. thanks for up loading. One quicky though... who is the voice that says "Space the finnal frontier" please? I think think that it is Mr. Shatner nor Mr. Limoy... just wonder. Lol I wont be able to sleep until I find out hehe =) I would appreciate anyones response ASAP!
@pinkuggboots1 James T. Kirk is really chuck norris but with chucks beard being so powerful, 60's television could not show it orhell on earth would begin.
Ahmed You may be thinking of The Menagerie pts 1 and 2. It was cobbled together with flashbacks from the first pilot that was rejected, entitled The Cage. The second pilot Where No Man Has Gone Before was accepted and the series was on its way.
i dont understand how people can hate this show i only saw a couple of minutes of "the trouble with tribbles" and then i now that it was gonna be one of the best shows i ever seen (and of course i falled in love with uhura like anybody else)
I like Picard, Kirk, And riker, Kirk and Riker have that aggressive attitude, and Picard has that Passive, Diplomacy and if that fails Kill them all type attitude
So do I. The best end themes were from The Menagerie pts 1 and 2. I really go on a misty-eyed nostalgia trip. The longer end themes were from first and second season episodes, all of which had yellow-letter credits. Blue credits mean a third season episode with the shorter end theme.
I love the concept of ST and TOS is the best by far, however the inflated and predatory ego of Bill Shatner tends to overshadow the sci-fi aspects. (The show may not have been as popular w/o I guess). I'm more a Leonard Nimoy fan.
The space/time warp engine powered by an annihilation reactor comes straight from physicist Robert Lazar. Rumor has it that some info was leaked to Gene Roddenberry from someone in the secret service community. (Roswell N.M) vehicle recovery analysis... FASCINATING!
Inflated predatory ego? With a middle name of Tiberius, could he be anything less? One reason the first pilot "The Cage" failed was because studio execs deemed Jeffrey Hunter/Captain Pike "too cerebral." Enter the second pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before." Captain Kirk singlehandedly vanquishes the bad guy in hand to hand combat. A more appropriate title would be "Captain Kirk Kicking Ass and Tomcatting Across the Galaxy."
Do you think that if there were an alien base on the moon, he might have fired a torpedo to destroy it? if he wanted to keep the information secret, do you think it would have been said the blast was to be a test to find water? I don't think that everyone would have accepted this offhand. Most intellectuals do not imagine that they are never lied to about such things.
@hork111 no they didn't deem Pike/Hunter as too cerebral. They deemed the story and the dialogues too cerebral. They didn't want to get rid of Pike just Number One and Spock. And Kirk does not singlehandedly vanquish the bad guy in the second pilot. He would have failed without the intervention of the "bad gal" who still happened to have some level of conscience and compassion. She dies at the end.

This opening theme is better than the one for the following two seasons, wonder why they made a good opening theme worse in the first place.

As a kid, I watched the episodes from 1990's and around 2000.
But this year, my mom ordered the seasons 1, 2 and 3, and those are actually more fun to watch, despite the fact there's not as good as effects as there are now in 2010.

too bad they didn't add DeForrest Kelley until the second or third season in the opening credits

May this be the Star Trek, above all others, that continues to stand the test of time.

My favorite Sci-Fi show!!!and the Best...greater than Star Wars!!!
Andymalcolm1 1 year ago 3
I don't think it's better than Star Wars, for many reasons:most important is that the average audience can't really relate to any character because in Star Trek humans are dehumanized(they don't behave like real human, they mostly act like quire boys),also the enemies in ST are not that fearsome and a 'heroic show"is as good as the "heroic characters"&the "heroic characters"are only as good as the"antagonists"they eventually defeat, since the "heroes"have low-grade enemies=heroes are low-grade
unurautare 1 year ago
Maybe so, unurautare, but it's all a matter of taste. Star Wars was and is much more about action, while Star Trek was more mature, focusing oftentimes on the psychological aspect. To each his own, but that's why I prefer Trek.

Ha! I knew it!!! it's "...to boldy go where no man has gone before.' Not "no one" as in the latest movie. Effin liberals, don't they understand the definition of "mankind" !! it's not sexist or discriminatory towards women!
jetta230 2 years ago
@jetta230 lmfao.....ain't that the truth.....
wickedglamour 2 years ago
Did you not even think about the fact that "mankind" excludes Spock? not just women. "no one" was first used in Star Trek VI and not to indicate the inclusion of women but the inclusion of aliens. It was then used in everything, including The Next Generation, not just the new movie.
Octolink64 2 years ago
@jetta230 Star Trek has dozens of different intelligent creatures. The "no one" refers to them not just humans.

To only the show's crazy fans; what's the title of the episode where the events were nothing but flashbacks from other, older, episodes ?
Ahmedabdelreheem 2 years ago
Ahmed You may be thinking of The Menagerie pts 1 and 2. It was cobbled together with flashbacks from the first pilot that was rejected, entitled The Cage. The second pilot Where No Man Has Gone Before was accepted and the series was on its way.

thanks a lot. you know so much. i think it's a silly idea any way (the flashbacks).

I like the longer end theme.
maureencora1 2 years ago
So do I. The best end themes were from The Menagerie pts 1 and 2. I really go on a misty-eyed nostalgia trip. The longer end themes were from first and second season episodes, all of which had yellow-letter credits. Blue credits mean a third season episode with the shorter end theme.
hork111 2 years ago
I love the concept of ST and TOS is the best by far, however the inflated and predatory ego of Bill Shatner tends to overshadow the sci-fi aspects. (The show may not have been as popular w/o I guess). I'm more a Leonard Nimoy fan.
The space/time warp engine powered by an annihilation reactor comes straight from physicist Robert Lazar. Rumor has it that some info was leaked to Gene Roddenberry from someone in the secret service community. (Roswell N.M) vehicle recovery analysis... FASCINATING!
abacab987 2 years ago
Inflated predatory ego? With a middle name of Tiberius, could he be anything less? One reason the first pilot "The Cage" failed was because studio execs deemed Jeffrey Hunter/Captain Pike "too cerebral." Enter the second pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before." Captain Kirk singlehandedly vanquishes the bad guy in hand to hand combat. A more appropriate title would be "Captain Kirk Kicking Ass and Tomcatting Across the Galaxy."
hork111 2 years ago
Do you think that if there were an alien base on the moon, he might have fired a torpedo to destroy it? if he wanted to keep the information secret, do you think it would have been said the blast was to be a test to find water? I don't think that everyone would have accepted this offhand. Most intellectuals do not imagine that they are never lied to about such things.
abacab987 2 years ago
@hork111 no they didn't deem Pike/Hunter as too cerebral. They deemed the story and the dialogues too cerebral. They didn't want to get rid of Pike just Number One and Spock. And Kirk does not singlehandedly vanquish the bad guy in the second pilot. He would have failed without the intervention of the "bad gal" who still happened to have some level of conscience and compassion. She dies at the end.
