I love how people are talking about Arcade Fire as they're SO superior to everyone else in music and how much this album SO deserved to win. I completely agree that Arcade Fire deserved this award, but the amount of hate for the other nominees feels a tad uncalled for and a dismissal of anything popular. The other artists are more mainstream, but still talented in their own rights. Eminem is a lyrically gifted and deeply-personal wordsmith. Lady Antebellum are an old-fashioned and well-executed country act. Lady Gaga is a gawdy, but nonetheless norm-challenging and creative artist. Katy Perry... uh... um.. well... no comment.

Because of all the live performances they rarely show 10 awards. The fact that they do show the rap album of the year on the main telecast shows they give it respect. And as for the number of hip hop categories being cut almost every genre is being cut so they don't give out over 100 awards every year.

This was so blissful! =D They were my favorites along with Gaga and when they won it was a dream come true! I wish Gaga had forgot about her antics so we could see her fucking face when the camera was on her while clapping! They didn't even believe it, their performance of Ready to Start afterwards had such a happy vibe than its normal dark one. Eminem is the only one out of those nominated who doesn't play any instruments. Lady Gaga is classically trained in Piano (Pretty sure she played the synthesizer/keyboards on her album), and Katy Perry plays the guitar (And as you noted, the country trio plays instruments as well). Just thought you should know.
