  • Too small to see anything.

  • OK IM RUINING WINDOW 2003 SERVER AND TRY TO CREATE A DOMAIN FOR 3 WINDOWS XP PRO COMPUTERS BUT IT KEEP SAYING UNALBE TO CONNECT TO DOMAIN CONTROLER WHEN I TYPE IN MY DOMAIN ADDARESS AND ALL THAT COULD YOU PLZ HELP PLZ EMAIL ME AT rockstar9882 @ gmail.com thank you

  • @Rockstar9882 I am guessing your DNS settings are incorrect on the XP machines. Make sure the DNS settings point to the IP address of your domain controller.

  • The step-by-step instructions are INCREDIBLY helpful. One of the better tutorials I've seen on youtube for server setup!

  • @K7Sniper Thank you much! Glad it was able to help ya out!

  • Hey Great Videos, I have watched through many of them and I was wondering how you ended up resolving the connectivity issue you had the yellow exclamation point? I noticed by Video # 7 the yellow exclamation point is gone, which video did you resolve it in?

  • @25panthersfan Thanks for the kind words. I hope to put more out soon. For the yellow exclamation point, are you talking about the network icon in the system tray? If so, I don't remember LOL. I think it eventually fixed itself to be honest... I think the icon wasn't "refreshing" or something, very strange.

  • Hi. After setting up the server as domain controller, i have a strange problem.

I can log in to server using COOL\administrator, HOT\administrator, BAD\administrator whatever... That is strange. Help please

  • @werthero You are correct, that is strange. Not sure why you would be able to log in under all of those.

  • this video is very usefull but you take way to long to get to your point. Just your intro was 1/3 of the entire video. Don't mean to insult in any way. Just offering some friendly advice.. Tutorials should be strictly tutorials :-)

  • @kefkhc Thanks, always open for suggestions.

  • @kefkhc tutorials can be whatever you want them to be and done any way you want them to be.

he has a personality to his videos and doesnt blow through things leaving the watcher pausing the video so they can take it in. I choose his videos over the others because he explains everything and goes a a good pace covering all the steps.

opinions aren't all the same and thats an opinion, not advice.

  • @darwing36 Thanks man! As I put more and more videos out, it's clear to me that everyone is looking for a tutorial that "fits their learning". I try to keep things short so they don't get boring (got a few bad comments for rambling on in the past), but sometimes I do try and explain things a certain way because I had run into learning issues with certain topics, which if they were explained to me the way I explain them, it would have helped.

  • iv watched all the server basic videos vwry helpfull dude especialy since i have been using server 2003 for so long :) i recently got my hands on a dlp360 g4p 8 gig ram dual 3.0 xeons 2mb, to run along side my othere storage servers etc, so going to revamp whole network. Would you sugest running multiple virtual set ups on that server for all the network roles or just run 1 copy of server 2008 with multiple roles?

  • @MrSoundshark Thanks for the comments!! Thats awesome you were able to get your hands on that server! I have been wanting one for a while now at home. I personally would recommend the virtual configuration. The more I research and test different configs, and work in different environments, the more I lean towards separating the roles on different servers. Especially when it comes to the DCs - I prefer them to be by themselves.

  • My only complaint so far has to be your voice when you read over stuff or when your voice gets low is a bit annoying but you're new so good job and ty! I really needed a refresher.

  • @omgBillyMayz Thanks for the input - I wouldn't say I'm "new", but ya, I need to work on my recording skills :)

  • Cool man.....thank you very much....:)

  • @rohitkh01 Thanks for the comment (and hopefully "thumbs up")... and you are welcome! More to come in the near future! I have a lot on my "videos to record" list.

  • My sincere advice to you is instead of showing step by step demo of how to install Active Directory, you should explain what it does and why we need to install it to us who are complete novice in dealing with server. No disrespect we know how to follow the instructions on setup screen. What we don't know is the purpose of each function on server operating system. That's all I would like to suggest or expect from a basic training video like this. Thank you very much....

  • @lapyiwin Cool - thanks for the suggestions. I will try and incorporate that into future videos.

  • @lapyiwin Why not just ask for a video of what you want? I agree that a video explaining what Active Directory does and why it's important would be nice but have, but I know what Active Directory is and how it works. However, I've never set it up in 2008, so this video is fine for my purpose. Don't include me in your 'we' statement as I highly doubt 'we' (everyone on youtube) is on the exact same technical level as you are/aren't.

  • @vincehexum "we" don't necessarily mean you are one of them. The term "we" I used mean people who don't know a lot about server/networking. If you know what active directory is all about... good for you. It is fair for me to suggest the OP that he should explain a bit about Active Directory especially in the video titled server "Basic".

  • @lapyiwin I understand what you are saying. It's hard to try and cover everything while keeping the videos short and not too boring. "Server Basics" to me is a good title for the content I have put out (in my opinion). Maybe I should do some "Server Terminology", or "Server Fundamentals" where I explain more of the "Why".

  • @PCAddictsLive I totally understand. I am not taking this for granted. I really appreciate your effort to make such a useful video. Keep it up man.

  • @vincehexum I don't mind the questions - I try to incorporate what people request without going overboard.

  • Very informative and helpful video!

  • @SigleyL25 Thanks man! Hope to put more out soon on this series.

  • Thank you for the video. but i've got an error code 404 and 408 while setting the DNS.. how can i manage them? Thanks

  • @posmanks Thanks! - Sounds like maybe your DNS isn't configured correctly. Open DNS MMC, right click the DNS server, select properties. On the interfaces tab, ensure that "All IP addresses" is selected, or determine whether any address in the IP addresses list is not valid for the server's network interfaces.

  • great videos man thank you very much i look forward to more tutorials from you

  • @huntspoint20 Thank you much! I am waiting until I finish my computer build (end of this month) before attempting another video edit, etc... but I have plans to put more basic stuff out like this since I have been getting some good feedback :)

  • great videos man thank you very much i look forward to more tutorials from you

  • Thanks these are brilliant videos. Very informative. Could you let me know what network adapter(s) you used for your Server 2008 and Windows 7...NAT, Bridged, Internal or Host only. Like some of the other posters I am having issues with a conflict with the DHCP in Virtualbox. Keep up the great work :)

  • @Bitsal Thank you for the kind words! Unfortunately I don't have that setup anymore, but... I do remember I had to setup 2 network adapters, One I think using NAT, and the other HOST ONLY (I think) - sorry man, been a while. I will set it up again soon, and do a followup video for ya.

  • @PCAddictsLive Thanks for the information. I managed to get the setup working using 2 network adapters - Bridged and Internal Network. So far so good. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

  • @PCAddictsLive.. Waiting for your reply..

  • @anjanasingh22 Sorry, been super busy, going to look at your questions now.

  • Do we have to activate the DHCP in Virtualbox before installing DHCP? If you can provide me your email i can send you the screenshots. Can you give more instructions on how to authorize the server name. Thanks in advance

  • @anjanasingh22 Oh, I forgot to mention, you might need to disable DHCP from Virtualbox so the two DHCP servers are not fighting. I will PM you my email if you want to send any screenshots as well. Sorry for the delayed reply, been very busy lately.

  • This is a great video, very useful, I am following it on my Virtualbox environment. I followed all the steps to create DC but I am having problem with DHCP. It’s not working. Do I have to change something on the Virtualbox side? Please guide me through what should I do to have my DHCP working. I have followed all the steps throughly and validated everything works fine except DHCP. DHCP installation is done successfully but in server manager the red flags are on.

  • @anjanasingh22 Thank you for the kind words - for the red "x", you might have to right click the server name (within DHCP mmc) and select "authorize" - it's been a while since I have seen that - but there might be something else you need to do if that doesn't work, let me know please.

  • ok I need help! i followed everything and when i go to connect windows seven pc it says dns name deos not exist. but the dhcp shows a ip lease to theis computer. i have them conected over a etherntet hub

  • @MrComputerGuy123 Sounds like the client computer might not have the DNS setup correctly. Make sure your DNS settings on the client computer is set for the IP of the server.

  • Actually.. (06:40) you cannot install DNS at the same time as ADDS, the Roles wizard won't let you - it will install when you run dcpromo.

  • Actually.. (06:40) you cannot install DNS at the same time as ADDS, the Roles wizard won't let you.

  • @browncj That is a correct statement, not sure why I said that in this video :) Thanks for the update though.

  • @MrMalhiTech No problem!

  • very informative i liked server 2003 only if i could find my nic that supported the os

  • @syorpheus Thanks! I never really had issues with the intel GB cards I used in my little boxes.

  • @PCAddictsLive yeah i dont know why though i tried the driver that was compatible for xp but that didnt work i even tried setting up dhcp and setting up anew scope but that didnt work either.

  • This is appreciated. We use a 2003 Server environment at the job, but I've always wanted to see how a 2008 setup would go in case we ever decided to upgrade.

  • @HensaStralem Your welcome... hopefully it helped ya out in some way shape or form. I hope to put some more out soon - just been swamped with "honey-dos" if ya know what I mean lol.

  • Sweet! Always wanted to know how to do this!

  • @Celeodor Awesome - glad it's helpin ya :)

  • Hi Cris

    Nice videos

    thxxx

  • @thehms1 Thanks! :) More to come!

  • Great Vid! Keep them coming!

  • @fallenspirit123 Thanks!

  • Awesome!!!

  • @TkMToM1993 Killer!!! hehe :) Thx

  • @PCAddictsLive :) Are you uploading the 3rd video right now?

  • @TkMToM1993 Sorry bro, nope... not right now. I still need to record it. I hope to record it maybe later today - gotta work on the house remodeling today hehe.

  • @PCAddictsLive Oh ok, no worries. BTW? how many computers do you have connected onto your domain? and what do you use them PC's for?

  • @TkMToM1993 My domain in the house currently only has 3 client computers joined to the domain - I leave the kids off, since they go to some shady sites, etc...
