I think the police did a very good job at removing the woman without violence. It is obvious there was no malice involved on their part. They weren't cursing and using vulgar language as she was. The one officer even put her slippers on for her. He didn't have to do that. I think had the sides switched there would have been much violence. Kudos to how the police handled this. I is much better than what we have been seeing in the media of how they are so "VIOLENT".

This is not oppression. SPD was doing their job. This video is misleading.... If you want to see true oppression....go to Iran, Syria, Venezuela, China, etc.... I doubt the officer in question assaulted you. It looks more like a bunch of police were trying to push bikes through a crowd of people that were too busy looking into their camera's and not paying attention to where they were walking. Oh Legal Observer bullshit, I looked on Occupy London's website and they're saying people should be as uncooporative with the police as possible even if they witness a genuine crime, a woman who was sexually assaulted in American Occupy was asked to drop her claim by these observers and better still a BBC undercover journalist infiltrated a legal observer meeting at Dale Farm and they said record everything the police do, when asked about crimes of activists they said don't record them.

Thank the police for staying as calm as they did. I can understand the rising tension with all of the protesters(especially that woman yelling in their faces) I can understand why they would stumble and think something worse is about to happen.

I am in Seattle on business and before I saw these people I though they were on the something... but I saw them in person and they are honesttogoodness scary. They smell of pot and cigarettes so bad, you can smell them 30 feet away. They're extremely dirty, have no grooming whatsoever, and they look like they're about to rob you. It sounds politically incorrect, but they look like the dregs of society. Give thieves and druggies unlimited cigarettes without 3 weeks shower, that's what I saw.

I honestly feel that the police officer with the mustache whose bike fell meant no harm. I don't think his intentions were to hurt anyone. Though, what do I know, I was not there.
Now I don't support it, but the woman actually was in the wrong there. She sat down and opened her umbrella. The umbrella ban is only enforced on people sitting/camping with umbrellas and other things. You're okay if you simply stand and hold your umbrella and not leave it unatended.
@VapZhu So, it's "in the wrong" to open an umbrella, just because the law says it is? It's in the wrong to protect yourself from the elements and provide yourself with shelter? Seems to me like the law that circumvents our basic rights to shelter and health (many of the people I know personally in this movement are homeless in a city with insufficient shelter beds) is what's "in the wrong."
I would also like to note she received her coffee 40 minutes before her arrest. If you've had coffee stay "hot" that long after you've been sitting in 50 degree weather, tell me where you get your coffee.

It seems to me your campaign to repeatedly call protesters "drama queens" is pretty, well, melodramatic and is doing more to make a movement look "bad" than you say this video -- which 4/5 people like, btw -- does. Rights were ignored that morning, cops assaulted my extremely calm friend, and tents were destroyed. We need to support each other, not attack fellow protesters.

How about in the info. the poster of this vid wrote "I was forced to the ground by two Seattle Police Department bicycle patrolmen using their bikes as weapons." That didn't happen & it's a desperate attempt by this guy to get attn. We as protesters & representatives of this movement have a responsibility to call BS when we see it! what this looks like to me is normally peaceful protestors getting desperate to cause some drama when really the police weren't having it and handled it with class and self-control. it almost reminds me of the NBA when the clock is ticking at the end of the game and the loosing team will try anything to claim a slight touch or a little shove into a "dramatic foul" causing them to "fall and slide half way across the court". in my opinion the police handled this very well.

They were going to carry her off like everyone else.

An officer's "face" was nowhere near her cup, and she was already being arrested before making any kind of motion (toward the ground). You don't speak for the movement. Cops enforce the laws of the 1%.

At 2:05 on the video... Blatant abuse of power and inappropriate behavior on part of the groping police officer should result in un-paid leave and charges being filed. That is bullshit, he gets paid by the public to behave that poorly!! I kinda think this should be sensationalized in similar fashion to what the news would do if the groping were done by a non-police citizen or maybe even a politician... the officer is a paid public figure.. paid to abuse the rights of others!

I saw positivity in this video when an apology was made the cop patted the guy & said it was ok. U should open up communication with the police not look for a fight. I feel bad for everyone in this video including the police & I'm happy more people didn't get arrested. It was nice to hear that guy apologize for causing everyone to fall off of their bicycles & nice to see the officer pat him & say it was okay. Those officers are confused & upset and so are the protesters. They need to open up communications instead of look for a fight. People need to understand, it's not a cop's job to be nice or even reasonable. Their work is to keep the peace. Stay away from them and let them do their job; cops are humans too, they can get angry and make mistakes because of it.
This protesting stuff is just a dangerous and unnecessary thing to be doing, period. Grouping up in large numbers to complain together about corporate greed doesn't accomplish anything, and cops have to make sure it doesn't turn into a riot. This is what happens.

Also, we are accomplishing so much and as it grows it will accomplish more. Everyone is talking about the issues now and learning. That wasn't happening before! Politicians, journalists, economist, and your average joe are talking about the banks, corruption, greed etc. It's the start of a very positive change!
This is ridiculous. I'm supportive of the movement, but I see two problems. Unnecessary police presence, and unnecessary goading and harassing of police. You protestors were being confrontational and abusive to these HUMANS. As humans, how would you feel if you were provoked by a group of people who were hostile and accusatory no matter what? How do you keep your cool? Regardless, it seemed to be an accident - you stepped in front of them. I've done stuff like that with my bike on accident.

Which is different than being held down with a bike. Also a good reason not to walk in the middle of a pack of bikes? I am all for Occupy, but I agree this video isnt doing any good. Film always, but please dont describe the situation in an over the top sense.

What pisses me off is the police pushing that younger girl out of his way. If I were to push a cop out of my way I'd end up in jail. They need to treat people like they'd like to be treated.... As far as the incident with the bike officers, it looked to me like there was an accidental collision.
I believe I saw a homeless woman who was being taken for treatment because she was having a behavioral health crisis. She even states, "they want to dope me up." I know 1st responders try very hard 2 protect the privacy of people having behavioral health & ALL health crises, & do not want filming of people who cannot give their consent. I also saw a loud, young woman harass a cop & obstruct his path. I suspect others interfered in the cops' movements, as well. I hear a man say it's his fault.
What if I have an umbrella open and accidentally slip, fall down, and need to sit for a bit? Will 40 officers come to help me? Nope, they will more than likely arrest me.
Regardless, the police presence at all of these events is way way overboard and the problems they cause aren't worth the supposed protection they provide.
I'm thirty six years old and I've never met a cop who hadn't let the power of his job go to his head. I'm sure there are some good cops, but its not the rule. IMO

I think the police did a very good job at removing the woman without violence. It is obvious there was no malice involved on their part. They weren't cursing and using vulgar language as she was. The one officer even put her slippers on for her. He didn't have to do that. I think had the sides switched there would have been much violence. Kudos to how the police handled this. I is much better than what we have been seeing in the media of how they are so "VIOLENT".

i,m sure the REAL occupy protesters are not this aggressive towards the police...the police did nothing wrong here in facy they could have arrested alot of them , especially that brainless girl who kept jumping in front of the cop and pushing him. your videos are hurting the real protesters and the cause. this is just a lame attempt to try and make the cops look bad...you in fact did the opposite

At 2:05 on the video... Blatant abuse of power and inappropriate behavior on part of the groping police officer should result in un-paid leave and charges being filed. That is bullshit, he gets paid by the public to behave that poorly!! I kinda think this should be sensationalized in similar fashion to what the news would do if the groping were done by a non-police citizen or maybe even a politician... the officer is a paid public figure.. paid to abuse the rights of others!

I saw positivity in this video when an apology was made the cop patted the guy & said it was ok. U should open up communication with the police not look for a fight. I really hope this video doesn't get passed around as representative of our movement a whole! You should be glad you're not facing the brutality of the NYPD & stop trying to create it!

I feel bad for everyone in this video including the police & I'm happy more people didn't get arrested. It was nice to hear that guy apologize for causing everyone to fall off of their bicycles & nice to see the officer pat him & say it was okay. Those officers are confused & upset and so are the protesters. They need to open up communications instead of look for a fight. They weren't arresting a protester they were arresting a homeless women who I am sure they had problems with. Everyone chill.

OMG I just read your update! This crazy homeless woman threw coffee on an officer & you think that's okay? No one should be doing that to anyone! People need to understand, it's not a cop's job to be nice or even reasonable. Their work is to keep the peace. Stay away from them and let them do their job; cops are humans too, they can get angry and make mistakes because of it.
This protesting stuff is just a dangerous and unnecessary thing to be doing, period. Grouping up in large numbers to complain together about corporate greed doesn't accomplish anything, and cops have to make sure it doesn't turn into a riot. This is what happens.

@SpaceGiko I agree with the first part, but not the second. It's not going to turn into a riot the protesters are peaceful. Police presence to close just stresses everyone out. Also, we are accomplishing so much and as it grows it will accomplish more. Everyone is talking about the issues now and learning. That wasn't happening before! Politicians, journalists, economist, and your average joe are talking about the banks, corruption, greed etc. It's the start of a very positive change!

This is ridiculous. I'm supportive of the movement, but I see two problems. Unnecessary police presence, and unnecessary goading and harassing of police. You protestors were being confrontational and abusive to these HUMANS. As humans, how would you feel if you were provoked by a group of people who were hostile and accusatory no matter what? How do you keep your cool? Regardless, it seemed to be an accident - you stepped in front of them. I've done stuff like that with my bike on accident.

@TheCaliforniaokie I think this video was a little to dramtic for its own good. I saw him getting tripped by a bike, and knocking another bike down. Which is different than being held down with a bike. Also a good reason not to walk in the middle of a pack of bikes? I am all for Occupy, but I agree this video isnt doing any good. Film always, but please dont describe the situation in an over the top sense.

What pisses me off is the police pushing that younger girl out of his way. If I were to push a cop out of my way I'd end up in jail. They need to treat people like they'd like to be treated.... As far as the incident with the bike officers, it looked to me like there was an accidental collision.

I believe I saw a homeless woman who was being taken for treatment because she was having a behavioral health crisis. She even states, "they want to dope me up." I know 1st responders try very hard 2 protect the privacy of people having behavioral health & ALL health crises, & do not want filming of people who cannot give their consent. I also saw a loud, young woman harass a cop & obstruct his path. I suspect others interfered in the cops' movements, as well. I hear a man say it's his fault.
