Forgot to mention also that Maya will automatically recognize the embedded alpha channel in an image format such as targa that supports a 32 bit image.
vulkein, yes man good ears. This was about the time I first started doing these tutorials and I wasn't too professional. You can hear my fishtank in some vids and my son Logan in others in the background. I have even looked back on some videos where I had music playing in the background...what I was thinking I dunno. Nope you don't need any program to open the "Channels" tab in Photoshop and create an alpha channel for your image by painting it or filling selections!
do you have a fish tank in your room or something because I definitely hear one lol anyway, this is an awesome tutorial but isn't there a plug you need in order to do this?
you forgot to unpremultiply alpha - which gets premultiplied with black in this case. Lots of people don't know that - but try to render transparent part close to the edge with grey background, see what happens
you really dont mention hardly anything about the actual import into maya. i can follow up to that part but then god damnit

Very nice, just needed specific parts to this cos forgot how to make Alphas.
Never could get my head around them - much unlike bumps maps though.
