He is using suggestive comments like my friend just said to take it, take it' which is transferring into the keepers mind therefore making him beleive he should take it and that it is a 'genourous' offer.
I honestly don't see how this actually worked. Either he did it like 1000 times that day and a couple of them worked... or I just don't think he's telling the truth. I've worked in retail and at a restaurant and never once didn't look at the bills and count them.
It could be real he said "Take it take it, it's fine" during the conversation as part of the subway issue where that could of been subliminal messaging
I tried something similar with brand new crisp $100 bills and $50 bills from the bank. Places like Wal-Mart and Target are supposed to check these bills before giving change. I did the "It's OK, take it.." into my conversation and not one bill was checked and change was given. Never failed yet and it is fun to do because it is only a social experiment and the money is legit!

such as the russian scam where a gypsy who strike a conversation with a stranger than manage to take all his belongings just by talking and doing gestures such as putting on a scarf and then taking it back again(I guess that's why the title is englishman scam)try to google that and see there's even people who can rob just by looking into the eyes of the victim.
But do we all...buy this footage? No pun. But it would be easy to hire these folks and set this all up. What do you think? It's my favorite "magic trick" if it's real.

@m380ll34 It has to do with the fact that the ring guy is actually paying attention to what Derren is saying. In that sort of business it is important to make the sale, so you follow exactly what people are saying and listen to them. The hotdog guy on the other hand, couldn't give two shits about what Derren is saying. He doesn't need to put in effort to make the sale, so what Derren says doesn't enter his mind in the same way.
I suspect we don't see the full scene here. I think at some stage Derren was counting out real money and then he did a switcheroo whilst distracting the salesman with his subway banter. The salesman was so at ease, he had no reason to suspect that this well-spoken customer with a casual aire would try any tricks. It's like suggestion and misdirection combined ... but that's not really hypnotism. Interesting stuff, anyway.

In that sort of business it is important to make the sale, so you follow exactly what people are saying and listen to them. The hotdog guy on the other hand, couldn't give two shits about what Derren is saying. He doesn't need to put in effort to make the sale, so what Derren says doesn't enter his mind in the same way.

I suspect we don't see the full scene here. I think at some stage Derren was counting out real money and then he did a switcheroo whilst distracting the salesman with his subway banter. The salesman was so at ease, he had no reason to suspect that this well-spoken customer with a casual aire would try any tricks. It's like suggestion and misdirection combined ... but that's not really hypnotism. Interesting stuff, anyway.

He had the rapport up with the other two. They were busy thinking about the other things he had said. He said much less to the food stand guy, but I think on an intrinsic level the man just wasn't interested in the idle conversation and payed it no mind, so he wasn't distracted enough when he looked down at the paper and just went "wtf?"

Darren uses some tried and true techniques in the video. People working in a store are used to a customer Shopping, Paying, and Leaving. By distracting the people with suggestions and keeping them listening or talking, they just follow what they're used to. When handed the paper, they don't question it because they're used to receiving something similar. Hidden suggestions such as "Take it, it's fine" help the process tremendously. It didn't work on the black guy 'cuz he didn't give a shit. lol

@dreadrocksean to be fair, you can go on a canoe in the carribean and reach another country. In europe, you can drive or take a train in most places to get to another country. In a lot of America, we have to fly or take a twenty-hour train or car ride to reach another country. Each of our states is the size of- and in a lot of cases, as diverse as- another country, elsewhere in the world.
