  • boring

  • awesome

  • sweetness,Tks for the post.

  • Dammit. My face Melted again. I knew I shouldnt have watched this video. Emmet, Jimi, and Eddie van Halen. Best that ever lived. KEEP ROCKING!!!!

  • Contrary to MU2GTR there are guitarist better than others;I don't care how famous they get and how popular the song is there is different degree's of good. You may be in the mood for more simple composition on some days but usually musicians need better stimulus from music than session music and pop garbage, you know McDonalds is good when you're hungry but if given the choice most would prefer a steakhouse etc.Rik is a good guitar player and I enjoy Triumphs' music as a whole band.

  • He is a gifted guitarist but at times his attitude is a bit much too take. He may have changed over the years though.

  • @doable1 If I could play the guitar like Rik, well, I might be a little impressed with my ability, as well. Plus, with all of the people that he meets, I might be a bit reserve, too -

  • Rik emmett and randy rhoads, in my opinion are two of the best guitarists to have ever picked up a guitar.

  • @noexistence11 Yes indeed, but now we have you tube, we see a lot of talented guitarist here who played stuff that is almost impossible do. They are nobody, except for their talent.

  • Great band! I saw them in Vancouver back in early 1983

  • If a human being picks up a guitar or any other instrument, writes beautiful music and shares it with the world and they enjoy the music, then that musician has succeeded. I love Triumph and I dig Rik's playing alot. saying that one person's playing is "better" than another is pointless. as guitarists and musicians we are all on the same path. liking someone's music or playing is a matter of taste not a matter of skill, therefore there can be no "better" just different. we are all on the path.

  • @MU2GTR You said that very well, very good job summing that up and I agree with you

  • sucked...pentatonic bullshit

  • @maxpower2004 FUCK U

  • I LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR THANKS TO THE LESSONS I BOUGHT FROM THIS GUY, MI MAESTRO, AND ALSO HE PLAYS THE BEST GUITAR IS BEEN MADE, "YAMAHA SG" WICH IS THE ONE I PLAY!!!!!, VIVA MEXICO CABRONES!!!!

  • Is that a SG2000 with a whammy on a yammy?? Oh yeah.. Definitely time to take stock of on eof the most underrated fucking chainsaws (not just an axe) ever to make a note move a mountain...

    )

  • TRIUMPH was/is an awesome trio. They put out quality music that still gets air play today. I saw them in SanDiego in 1986 and it was one of the most astounding musical and visual shows I saw in the '80's. Triumph is a band of artists, not pathetic mosh pit guys grovelling lyrics and barely playing the F chord. That's why they've been inducted into Canada's Rock and Roll hall of fame. If you don't like this part of music history, turn the channel, you can do that. But, these guys ROCK!

  • @1977fbird Sport of Kings tour... Awesome show.. I was 17 at the time. I have never seen a band use more pyros than Triumph.. And i've seen Dio, Maiden, Priest, Crue, Metallica.... etc..All back in the 80's when bands knew how to put on a show.. Triumph's show blew them all away..

  • @icthruu4evr I don't believe ONE word of that.

  • @icthruu4evr You just can't admit you are wrong can you? That's ok. Most kids can't. My three sons can't either.. It's part of becoming an adult.. Not only can't you admit that you were wrong about Triumph, but not once have you stated anything other than childish opinions about them... If you don't like them, fine. But you can't say that they were not one of the biggest acts of their day.. They were, and I've proved it.. How's that egg on your face taste? Go home Jr. I win. Game over.

  • @icthruu4evr How's this for a "county fair".. Ever hear of the US Festival? 670,000 people were at it... Here was the line up for Heavy Metal Sunday:

    Quiet Riot

    Motley Crue

    Ozzy Osbourne

    Judas Priest

    Triumph

    Scorpions

    Van Halen

I wonder why they would book a band that was only big at "County Fairs" with the biggest heavy metal acts of the day? Oh, by the way, VH put on the worst show out of everyone that day. FACT!

  • @icthruu4evr Thanks... You just proved my point.. I tried to warn you, but because you went and opened your mouth you've just removed ALL doubt... You are a moron and everyone who reads your dumb-ass babble knows it... How's it feel... Dummy.

  • @icthruu4evr You are obviously a child.. Have you ever even picked up an instrument? What part of anything I said is not true? I would be shocked if you were older than 15... Trust me, I know what I am talking about... you only know what you've heard. Unless you've seen Rik and Eddie live then you should just shut up... Remember.. No one knows how stupid you are until you open your mouth and remove all doubt... Go tell your mom that she's calling you.

  • @icthruu4evr No.. They were up there with bands like Metallica, Rush, Maiden, Dio, Priest, and Ozzy... Yes.. Just as big as all of them.. If you were around back then.. you'd know.

  • @icthruu4evr Never went anywhere??? Seriously? What are you 12? In the 70's and 80's Triumph was one of the biggest acts around... Their shows were second to none.. In fact, they were the best live show I've ever seen.. And I've seen some great shows. Triumph did it better than anyone.. Get a clue.

  • It's a Yamaha SBG 3000 (or 2000). I can't remember right now

  • thats what im talking about!!!

  • What kind of guitar is he playing?

  • @KattOne03 That is a Yamaha, don't know which model.

  • @KattOne03 Yamaha SBG I think

  • While I've heard better technicians and rock soloists then Rik (although he's got some great ones), he is a damn fine player and his versatility sets him apart from many of his peers. For those unfamiliar with Rik's body of work, your missing out on some fantastic stuff:

Check out live version of Little Boy Blues - Emotion sets this apart from players who are technical "geniuses" but play with NO feeling and is why Rik is Great - fine song writer and vocalist too...

  • ti na leme ***************

  • Pure rock energy, then dexterity, then saying something new/saying something in a different way. - Seems to me (presumptious for me to say?) RE seems caught in the 2nd level, trying to move into the 3rd. (I'm a Triumph neophyte. ...I once heard a live concert on FM, liked them well enough.)

  • Speed and roose should KISS and makeup LOL

  • Speedbump.....typical comment from a young guitar player who thinks the whole world revolves around a Minor Pentatonic scale with 32nd notes...try playing Jazz...Melody-chord progressions, be-bop, hard-bop, cool..create some melodies with retrograde harmony.

  • nice pm you sent me..and i see you have no videos of your own guitar playing..all you can do is post other players !!!..tells me you have no guitar skills, bye loser.

  • THIS IS BORING BASIC...PUKE !!!!!!!!

  • So lol"BLaaaaaazing fingers" where's all youre platinum?...Just as I thought...another wannabe asshole with his head up moms skirt, no balls to get out of the garage. Youd piss your teenie pants infront of a smll crowd let alone 70,000 shit for brains. Practicing with a record ne hell of a lot different than trying to play an enhance the sound of a band. Blow me you bitch.

  • Wow, you must have a wall of Grammies. So, who did you tour with?? Oh, no one. You know, not everyone is Eddie Van Halen, but he's a damn good guitarist. Lighten up, Francis!

  • @mojo82 you had sent this to me....I am a huge Rik Emmett fan...I never had anything disparaging to say about Emmett. I was however pissed at that kid who thinks that everything is about SPEED..speed is fine..flashy. But if you dont have a melody developing that line..it means nothing. Check out Suitcase Blues. While Van halen is great at what he does...he is not accomplished at Jazz ...and if you have attempted to improvise in Jazz..youll know what I am talking about.

  • Roose, actually as a teenager, I loved suitcase blues. In fact, my dad caught me singing to myself, much to my angst. It was one of those B tracks that every fan loves.

However, when it come to guitar, Eddie can outduel most anybody. Not because of speed, but skill. If you/ve seen any Ed VH,, he can improvise like nobody's business. Just google VH eruption. Hope you enjoy it and realize that EVH is more than speed metal

  • @mojo82 I wasnt so much speaking of a technical aspect in alternate picking as I was the ability to improvise around the theme, and variation on the theme. Look at Bireli Legrene playing Stella By Starlight..This is about a combination of Melody-Chord arrangement for the guitar, its substitutions, different polyrythyms, being able to understand drop 2 type chords give you the best chance for a step-wise bassline in the arrangement...considerations in context with harmony..etc.

  • I will have to surrender. I'm not that technically adept. however, you must listen to EVH. Rik is great, but Ed does things... i saw him live at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit two years ago and he was beyond improv. Just my opine. Give him a chance. Just for fun, on the 'diver down' album, ed's sister Jan plays clarinet on "Sweet William". Funny stuff. I hope you listen to EVH live stuff, just like you listen to Triumphs'.

  • @mojo82 Actually, "Jan" is Ed's dad. He played on the album after having been retired from playing for quite a while *and* missing a middle finger.

  • @mojo82 Not for nothing, but Rik Emmett is hands down a better guitarist than EVH... It's just a fact. Rik is phenomenal at every style of music he plays.. Rock, Jazz, Classical, Blues... You name it he excels at it... EVH is a brilliant rock guitarist... possibly the best ever.. But that's all he can play.. Check out Midsummers Daydream.. IMO, way better than eruption.. Rik is pure class and skill...

  • Y@rooseguitar64 do agree with you. Y love "Suitcase blue" Speed, thecnic is important,if you! re able to send the feeling to the people hearin the music.

  • Spanish guitar, classical influences, Rik Emmett is a great guitar player. Well rounded and CAPABLE OF DESTROYING THOSE TAB TRAINED SPEEDFREAKS with no soul and less respect for those who blased the trail! If it's rock it's better than everything else! Enjoy, learn and grow...

  • YAAAAAWN AND FKING B YAAAWN

  • A lot of this is very close to Randy Rhoads' spotlight solo. Except Randy's playing and sound are a million light years better than this.

  • Also remembert hat both Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads have cited Rik Emmett as one of their biggest influences.

  • Excellent points gentlemen. Unfortunately, we have to tolerate our younger generation who think that things are new when you see them on youtube. Sometimes it's like comparing 1960' sci-fi to Star Wars to "the Matrix". They just can't be compared. You can only appreciate the 'Genre'.

  • I think people need to realise that this signature solo break, from Rock and Roll Machine, dates back to 1977. It blazed quite a trail for the shredding that came after, and many take for granted. Yes, BEFORE Randy, Eddie, and countless other players that were idolized throughout the 80's and beyond.

  • Wow definately not, Randy Rhoads came before Rick Emmet. And Randy Rhoads is simply unbalievable, Rick is good, but his technical ability isnt really amazing, but its good enough for the music he plays. Its not about how fast you play, its about the music that you write, and Rick has his own approach to guitar, his own style and i dig it i think hes awesome. So its a pretty cool video

  • What came first, the chicken or the egg? The original four members recorded their debut album Quiet Riot, or QR I, which was released in Japan in 1977. Rock n Roll Machine, Triumph, was released the same year (albeit in Canada); Rock and Roll Machine was the second album by Canadian hard rock band Triumph, released in 1977.

Having said that, for real guitar work, check out Friday night in San Francisco...

  • Blur...no he didnt. Randy was with Quiet Riot in 1978. he was around 21 at the time i think. Rik Emmett and Triumph was already touring with Rush in 1977

  • i agree with speed freek..nothing special in this...whats the big deal...

  • SPEEDFREAK200008

I think there is small difference, in that he's doing it in front of 50,000 fans, and you do it in your room.

  • nothing special about this..

  • Emmett did this right on the heels of Eddie Van Halen....While it may not be impressive to you it was done before you were born...The roots to shred are here....Note it's all picking and no tapping!

  • your a rude ignorant son of a bitch keep you fuckin comments to your self speedfuck200008

  • speed demon

  • I agree the greatest guitar player that ever lived!!

  • Amazing

  • That a Yamaha SG1000?

  • Great stuff. This is a REAL rock guitarist. Nice CLEAN distortion instead of a bunch of downtuned mushed out crap.

  • @lizardneck You can't teach tone.

  • Rick Emmett is awesome

  • Thats's a portion of the guitar solo form Rock and Roll machine. Gil and Mike usually grab a beer backstage while Rik burns out frets for 20 minutes.

  • i never heard this side of him before. quite aggressive.

  • holy shit

  • Rik Emmett is amazing!

  • Excellent clip. Rik Emmett was and will always be my favorite guitarist. The starlicks tape that I had, had a different intro. Is that where this clip came from?
