Im atheist and I love christmas. I enjoy opening gifts and watching my children open gifts. I like christmas lights and christmas trees. The season of giving? I can respect that. Celebrating jesus christ's birthday...Nah! I'm not christian, jesus wasn't even born on dec 25. it was and still IS a pagen holiday. I like having days off of work to celebrate winter solstice with my family. I think every atheist enjoys it too, albiet for different reasons then the christians...

It's the same as the old rule about bringing gum to school; you have to bring enough for everybody, or nobody chews gum. In this case, you have to let everyone display something, or nobody. ok here is something stupid, the first amendment says the government can't establish religion. there aren't any laws saying we had to put up religious decor for christmas, but they now have a law banning religious decor @ the capitol. if you analyze this law it only supports atheists. there are more laws these days supporting atheists than anybody else. to me this looks like the establishment of a religion metaphorically speaking atheism.

Nearly all aspects of it including the date of the day itself was adopted from other traditions or developed into tradition since the fourth century. Im a Atheist and i dont like this. I think anyone should be able to put up whatever they want. The celebration of the winter solstice should be whatever people want it to be. The bible gives no birthdate, so that is when people everywhere celebrate the birth of their messiah. I dont see the big deal. And i dont see why a Atheist sign is threatening to those who truly believe. Plus, Christmas is a paid holiday so stop screwing with it. :)

The right choice was made. The capitol building is no acceptable public forum for religious racketeering. The displays should never have been allowed in the first place. If you allow Christian displays, you must allow Jewish, and Muslim, and Hindu, and Atheist displays as well.
The capitol building would be cluttered by displays, which is wholly unreasonable. The only logical choice is to ban all displays to avoid this ridiculous competition over who can erect the largest religious sign.

Im atheist and I love christmas. I enjoy opening gifts and watching my children open gifts. I like christmas lights and christmas trees. The season of giving? I can respect that. Celebrating jesus christ's birthday...Nah! I'm not christian, jesus wasn't even born on dec 25. it was and still IS a pagen holiday. I like having days off of work to celebrate winter solstice with my family. I think every atheist enjoys it too, albiet for different reasons then the christians...

ok here is something stupid, the first amendment says the government can't establish religion. there aren't any laws saying we had to put up religious decor for christmas, but they now have a law banning religious decor @ the capitol. if you analyze this law it only supports atheists. there are more laws these days supporting atheists than anybody else. to me this looks like the establishment of a religion metaphorically speaking atheism.

I'm surprised how many atheists don't hold the viewpoint that Christmas is a secular holiday. Nearly all of the symbolism these days has nothing to do with Christianity. Nearly all aspects of it including the date of the day itself was adopted from other traditions or developed into tradition since the fourth century. Try finding "Thou shalt be a consumer whore" in the bible.

@albokk sooo atheists have freedoms, but dont have any say??? i am confused. read the constitution pal, atheists have the same first amendment rights as all other people. its not our fault christians are offended. if christians realised the atheists can have their say too, maybe the state would not have to cancel everybody's right for a holiday display.

Im a Atheist and i dont like this. I think anyone should be able to put up whatever they want. The celebration of the winter solstice should be whatever people want it to be. The bible gives no birthdate, so that is when people everywhere celebrate the birth of their messiah. I dont see the big deal. And i dont see why a Atheist sign is threatening to those who truly believe. Plus, Christmas is a paid holiday so stop screwing with it. :)

The right choice was made. The capitol building is no acceptable public forum for religious racketeering. The displays should never have been allowed in the first place. If you allow Christian displays, you must allow Jewish, and Muslim, and Hindu, and Atheist displays as well.
The capitol building would be cluttered by displays, which is wholly unreasonable. The only logical choice is to ban all displays to avoid this ridiculous competition over who can erect the largest religious sign.
