No way to know how Bach would have preferred this masterpiece to be played, but I think the organist missed the mark with a disjointed tempo, and a registration that was just plain awful.
His performance is very nice and refreshing! Especially the different registrations. Its something completely new and that the cool thing! Also the sound of the organ is nice.
I recognized that this is an organ by a german organ builder! :-) Would be interesting who it is...
This is brilliant! Why should Xaver Varnus play it much the same as all the others? He is well known for coming up with something a little different and unexpected, and this vast audience came to hear their wonderful organ put through its paces. They would not have been disappointed. And as for those who are whining about poor mic placement and the organ needing attention, all I can say is that an organist of Varnus's stature wouldn't have played it if it needed attention.
