  • Kennedy '68!!!!

  • Hubert was the author and champion of Medicare which passed in 1965. He would be "pleased as punch" to know the results of a new CBS News poll shows that Americans have mixed feelings about what should happen to Medicare: While 53 percent say the program needs fundamental changes, 58 percent say it should continue the way it is set up now. CONTINUE JUST LIKE HHH WANTED IT! Stupid Paul Ryan and stupid "New GOP"!

  • I think if Humphrey had won then the peace would also include the USA recognising Hanoi on the side of Saigon in which a few Western Countries did after 1969.

  • "Mental disorder"? That's right-wing militarism, thank you very much--today's conservatives don't understand that bombing the world into submission makes things worse, not better. Just becase There Are Bad People Out There doesn't mean the solution is Shoot First, Ask Questions Later.

  • @ProgRockNerd

I agree. It would be great if your left wing president- hero BH Obama would stop the terrorist activities in Libya and Yemen. The fact that we are printing and borrowing money to support these actions is especially egregious

  • @fuckinjones23: Yeah, let's see you complain about Iraq and Afghanistan, then. You're full of gas.

Oh, and TAX THE FILTHY RICH!

  • Giant Hemmoroid! LBJ was IMO WAS hands down the most criminal to lead us ever, and that is really something considering the contenders for that the number 1 slot! LOL!

  • Lyndon Johnson almost won it for Humphrey Presdent Johnson withdrew from the race...He was dead-set in resolving VN..In fact the peace talks were nearing a solution in Paris..Until good old, tricky dicky, the crook..sabatoagd the negoiations, by informing Thieu, not to settle! It was treason. Humphey would have won because of Johnson's efforts. But Rat Nixon committed treason!

  • @steveforsane Humphrey was a great American liberal at a time when American liberals were riding high. Mr. Humphrey was a solid VP for LBJ and was a strong nominee for the Dems in '68 (barely losing to former 2-term GOP VP Richard Nixon). Although a liberal, Humphrey was an advocate of a strong US military & was hawkish on defense policy compared to the liberals of today. IMO, Humphrey would have made a good President & was the last good Dem nominee for president until Clinton.

  • If HHH won in 68, I think Nixon would have a better reputation today..

  • this is the real Triple H

  • HHH was a great populist progressive... perhaps he & Teddy Kennedy are having a chat right now talking about 'ol times. God Bless them both.

  • The horn blows at midnight. That's when Barack Obama goes for a ride in Larry Sinclair's taxicab.

  • Carter said it, unfortunately, Humphrey couldn't be at the convention. I recall seeing Carter's gaff,

  • I really wished there was video from the 1980 Democratic Convention when the ass Jimmy Carter brought Mr. Humphrey to the stage and incorrectly called him Hubert Horatio Hornblower er ah Humphrey. It was outrageous!

  • It would be really cool to see that, since Humphrey died in 1979.

You've got the rest right, though.

  • President Carter gave his speech accepting the party's nomination on August 14. This was notable for his tribute to Hubert Humphrey, whom he first called "Hubert Horatio Hornblower."[2]

On November 4, President Carter and Vice President Mondale lost to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in the general election having lost both the popular vote by 8,423,115 popular votes and the electoral vote by 440 electoral votes. [3]

    [edit] See

  • Nobody's denying that Carter said "Hubert Horatio Hornblower."

I am denying your claim that "Carter brought Mr. Humphrey to the stage," because even an "ass" like Jimmy Carter has better sense than to bring a rotting corpse onstage.

  • Correct. The sorry fucking feckless asshole Carter brought Horatio Hornblower's memory to the democratic convention stage.

  • @elperromagico

Humphrey died in January of 1978 not in 79. He suffered greatly in his final years as well with terninal bladder cancer.

HHH would've made a better President than Nixon. For all his faults and Hubert had them as well as Nixon, he was not a criminal.

  • Hubert Horatio Humphrey is an awesome name.

    He's the original Triple H.

  • Without the hard work of Humphrey, the Republicans would not have been able to pass civil rights reform.

  • HHH was an honorable and patriotic liberal. There are none left after the McGovernites took over the Democratic party but Humphrey was a decent man and probably would have been an OK president. He would have got us out of Vietnam saving some 20,000 American lives but as LBJ's VP he couldn't campaign hard against the war lest he came off as disloyal, so he lost.

  • @NebraskasWallpaper He was just another asshole in Washington that helped us lose the Vietnam War by not letting us shoot the enemy until they shot us. The asshole liberals in Congress are still doing that today in Iraq and Afghanistan. Liberalism is definitely a mental disorder.

  • Hubert Horatio Humphrey was a brilliant man, and would have been a wonderful president. A tool? Read up on history, check out this man's biography, see what he did way back in 1948 for the issue of Civil Rights. May Triple H rest in peace.

  • The Vietnam War was such a waste of time. Against an enemy that was no threat to us. It's guys like LBJ, Humphrey and Nixon that kept that quagmire going. I almost have a good mind to hang them for leading to deaths of millions of Vietnamese and 58,000 Americans.

  • @Whoo69 Actually, Humphrey disagreed with LBJ on Vietnam. LBJ punished Humphrey because of it. If LBJ had only listened to HHH on Vietnam, a lot of lives could have been saved, and LBJ's presidency probably would have been more popular. But, LBJ was stubborn on Vietnam and wanted "yes-men" and ignored HHH's good advice. See the official senate.gov bio on Hubert Humphrey. YouTube isn't letting me post the link..

  • What are you talking about??

    Nixon won the election.

  • McGovern didn't run in 1968... He ran four years later...

HHH all the way. God bless him.

  • Nixon wrote in his memoirs that Bobby Kennedy would have been unstoppable once he won California, and that Hubert Humphrey had waited too long to get in. He was convinced that he would be up against Kennedy, and considering that he had the most to lose by this and the fact that he was a political animal, I trust his analysis.

  • Hubert H. Humphrey was a great man..... I seriously doubt that he would have been an effective President.

  • A great man who would have made a great President. RIP Hubert Humphrey. The world could do with more like you in this modern day and age

  • Humphrey was hostage to Johnson's threats of no support in 68'. His late surge, had it been sooner would have been another Nixon loss. He lost the election by 0.7%.

  • LBJ wanted desperately to head into a second full term. "The Guys" said: "No, no, no, no."

Then The Guys put the word out against RFK, adding that Dr. Nixon was in----because they said so. This time, Hillary is in.

  • Get help, please.

  • Whoops! Better luck with the predictions next time, BooBoo.

  • Haha no White House for you.

What a tool this guy was.

  • what an asshole.

  • I didn't know your mother was into politics. I saw her on the streetcorner saying, "Humphrey, Humphrey!"

  • Sadly, Humphrey announced quick withdrawal a little too late. He should have won the nomination in 1960, he should have been president way back than. Then the whole Vietnam shit wouldn't have happened. That started with Kennedy.

  • started with truman and eisenhower...

  • Everyone says that. Truman and Ike sent MONEY. Isn't it necessary to send money to a MAJOR ally? If you don't send money to a MAJOR ally, you will appear to be hostile. Would it be smart to be hostile with France? Ike said they support France, Kennedy said he wants to get into their war.

  • it really escalated with Johnson after kennedy got assassinated, kennedy was going to get us out of vietinam.

  • Had he been elected the war would've ended.

  • He would have been elected had he broken from LBJ sooner than he did. NO ONE was happy with LBJ's presidency in '68.

  • Absolutely. It was of the great tragedies of this country that he wasn't president.

  • I think he would have made a terrific president, period.

  • He would have made a wonderful President. Had he NOT sold his soul to LBJ.
