This is definitely a Mario Party clone. Funny enough, Hudson made this game too. It's unfortunate they didn't do as good a job as they did with the Mario Party games. What's equally unfortunate is they proceeded to run Mario Party into the ground years down the road. At least Sonic was smart enough to stop after one.

There was definitely some potential here though, it just wasn't realized.

Seems like Sega was always trying to make Sonic do the same stuff as Mario back when they were still competing with Nintendo. Besides this, they also put him in an art game called Wacky Worlds that was meant to be like Mario Paint, and the Sonic Drift games were obviously based on Super Mario Kart.
