Thanks for this video (very helpful). I went out and got the ArcadeVGA card and wired the monitor to connect to it. No problemo. But now how do I get the monitor to have power? I still have the transformer and powersupply in the cab but since I disconnected the PCB it no longer turns on. Any info is really appreciated.
I have an arcade monitor and i want to connect it to my pc, i couldn't find an agb vga arcade card so i order a VGA to RGBS/CGA/AV/S video converter found on ebay
@JoJoRockets52 (xatzis5000) unfortunately the monitor was to old and had washed out colors so i can't tell if the board provides perfect picture. i suggest it though, because its a cheep way to hook up an arcade monitor to a pc...
Hello. Thanks for this informative video. I'm looking at creating my own mame cabinet. I'm also a total noob with electronics. Does the amp power the monitor also or does the monitor still require being powered by the cabinet's power supply?
@mandobear The monitor is power from the cabinet's power supply. All the amp is for is to boost the 1volt input signal to 5 volts for a brighter, better picture.
ok so my sound is fine and my controlls are fine whern i plug my pc into the mame cab i got after taking out the old computer inside. i figure since the screen does not come through at all i need an arcade vga huh? i got a vid up of the cab.
Question: it looks like the vga breakout cable goes from the computer to another vga breakout cable?, couldn't use just use a male to male vga cable to go from pc to the volt amplifier without having the splice under that tape? or are those two different types of cables? what type of VGA is that coming off the volt amplifier?
@sparky1821 The amplifier takes the 15Khz vga input and converts it to 15khz rgb output while amping the 1 volt from the video card to 5 volts. The cable appears hacked up because I used the same cable for a different project in the past and had to splice it all back together, but essentially you are correct.
Thanks so much for the quick response, I'm trying to build one of these soon, So I am trying to understand it all, this is a very informative video, so thanks, and If you want to see every Nintendo game, check out my channel!, thanks again
You can't. The computer start button HAS to be a momentary push button, not a switch. You'll have to use the toggle switch for the monitor and cab, and a momentary push button for the computer.
As for the Arcade VGA I believe it has the video modes inside its BIOS and is otherwise a standard ATI VGA card. If one wants to have maximum freedom and create and modify the perfect (not only) 15 kHz low pixel video modes with regular VGA card - Advance MAME and SVGALIB Linux/DOS is the answer, and I hope is still today even the project has been frozen since mid 2006...
What are you doing for power? on my last cab I used a jpac which ran off the jamma harness. so without it how do you power your marquee and coin door lights?
Haha! You didn't hide Windows XP. I can show / tell you a detailed way of how to hide EVERYTHING so that know one knows what it is running. On mine, I set it up so it shows a black screen from turn on - then, it loads with a black background still MAME
I bought the new arcadeVGA card and I too think it has S-video. Does this mean I can use my 8" screen at the same time as my arcade monitor like I'm doing now with my CRT? also I ordred today the Arcade Monitor Video Amplifier and VGA Breakout Cable.
Turns out I have arcade vga card laying around my house. I now have a problem if I where to set it up, I have a connector on the the back of my monitor thats like 2 squares together. How and where would I find an adaptor to fix a arcade vga card?
This whole time ive been looking at the power connector. Instead of finding the 4 extra volts that the vga card doesnt have im just gonna mount a samsung flat screen monitor
Well im probably gonna gut my arcade cabinet but I need a 15 by 19 monitor and I need to make a box with some scrap wood I have everything and I have a xarcade to put in the box.
SOOOO helpful!!! I ordered the PCIe arcadeVGA card a few days ago. I guess I'll order the Video Amplifier now, or should I wait to see if the monitor I get uses JAMMA?
i need help on my arcade machine on my screen contrast is all messed up i try to adjust the color but it wont go back to normal....

xatzis5000 1 year ago
@xatzis5000 Yup.
YourMKArcadeSource 1 year ago
@xatzis5000 did you ever try this?
JoJoRockets52 6 months ago
@JoJoRockets52 I did, you must connect the monitor to the RGBS output with the 5 pins.
has some on screen options to adjust to.

Thanks MK. I have an arcadeVGA on its way from ultimarc. This video was very helpful. Simple and specific.

Hi, MK.
I am thinking of getting an ArcadeVGA card for my cab and your video is real nice and informative. :-)
I have a question for you though:
I've heard that the interlace flicker while in a Windows environment is pretty severe with this card.
This is a problm for me as I won't just be running MAME on it.
Just how bad is the flicker?
Thanks.
CPS2 2 years ago
I don't experience any flicker. This is the first I am hearing of it. It works just fine for me.

does the arcade vga work for CRT home TV? S-video

Yes. It has a composite video out and I think the newer ones have s-video.

hey if i where to make a mame machine with normal controls (like buttons with wires) how would I do that?

All you would need would be a J-Pac or an I-Pac. Check out the site in the video description.
