@elavd Lol...you know how i said it was a bit rich for my blood....i bought them about 4 days ago and it was one of the best decisions i've made in a while...they are AMAZING...easily the BEST pickups i've ever had the pleasure of owning...
Though they are expensive, i'd recommend them to anyone who is a advent guitarist or a serious hobbyist....thanks for the video, it pretty much sold me these pickups :P
Your tone is out of this world. I knew I wanted BKP's for a long time, but couldn't find which neck pup to go for, in order to get a really complimentary blues tone .... After months of searching, you helped answer my question. Nice and full lower mids ... this is the pickup for me.
Great Tone! I have the Alnico II SM's in my 335, and it sounds a bit darker then that. is that the benefit of the IV magnet? I bit sweeter highs? thanks man!
@BELOROYAN I think that I use all 3 positions in this clip. Sorry for not remembering more details, because it's been some time since I've recorded this clip.
Yes the pickups have big but not annoying bass ;)
Why have you bought A IV instead of A ii Pickups ? Your guitar was dark sounding or contrary ??? thanks for your answer, i will buy some soon !!...gaëtan
@BELOROYAN I mainly play with single coiled guitars (strat & tele). I thought that the AIV could give me a less darking sound on my guitar than the one I had with the original Gibson 57 Classic PAFs.
Great demo...I have an ES 137 and want BK Stormy monday too, but why do you have A iV pups and not A II ..I thought it was always A II for this model ? ...can you explain me why ? ...gaëtan
I think the most difficlut thing is to get a good mix with the backing track because blues isn't so complex to play. It's a matter of taste when you know the most simple scales to learn (pentatonic + & - and blues).
However I'm a blues player and it becomes complexer when inspiration doesn't come...
@CODILLASKIN You know, I wrote this after reading furryrockets comment about that basic and nice structure. If he wants to play "Blue Jean Blues" in the ZZ TOP taste. When you want to learn and progress in anything you have to start with simple and slow exercises. When you learn to drive you don't begin with a formula 1. Having the soul, it's impossible to learn blues having Wes Montgomry or Robben Ford in mind and working on complex modal scales...
If any of you guys are thinking of buying BareKnuckle pups. I've got three guitars with them in. Including humbuckers, P90's and fender type single coils. Basically all I can say is just do it. The difference is truly remarkable. But make sure the doner guitar is up to it, if the guitar is shit these pups are very revealing and tell you just how good your guitar is.
Am thinking of getting new pups. I play a Michael Kelly Patriot Shadow. I have EMG60n/EMG81b right now. It was only a $400 guitar, but solid mahogany body, set mahogany neck. You think the Stormy Monday would sound good in it? Was going to put Sm as neck, and the Gibson Iommi in the bridge.
You're best bet is to email Tim at BK, he'll give you good advice. Also you could join the Bareknuckles pickup forum, there's loads of advice and sound clips there.
I want option to get crazy, Iommi Gibson is good for that, and also be able to get smooth sounds like this for some blues/ jazz. I only have 1 guitar, so thats why they seem like an odd choice.
Just want to mention there's the Seymour Duncan set featuring the Jeff Beck and the Jazz. This sounds great and totally in your tastes for a lot cheaper.
Hi. I'm Greek too and I think I've seen your posts on kithara and noiz. I'll type English for the others to understand though ;)
I am thinking of picking up a PRS SE Singlecut and fit it with Bareknuckles. Thinking either a pari of Mules, or a Black Dog/Mule (Neck/Bridge) or Riff Raff/Mule.
Have any clue how they sound splited? I am also going to replace the stock wiring with RS Guitarworks vintage PRS set.
Hi there, wonderful tone man. I am thinking of buying these to put into my Hamer 335 copy. I was wondering if they are sensitive to the vol control (in a good way) ie they clean up nicely and drop the vol real good. My vol control now seems to be either off or on with these cheap pups!
Hi, thanks for that. I would have just got the pups fitted and not bothered with the pots. I'm sure they wouldn't cost that much. I had to spray loads of switch cleaner on them when i got the guitar they were crackling so much.
Other than that the guitar plays great. I guess thats what makes cheap guitars cheap:cutting corners on the electrics!!
@chooseyourblues If your volume pots seem really sensitive, they are most likely linear taper pots. These have most of the audible effect in the last 25% or so of the rotation. Good for volume swells once you get used to them, but they feel very touchy.
Most folks prefer a log taper, also called an audio taper pot. They effect the level pretty evenly over the entire rotation.
Get 500k ohm for humbuckers, 250k ohm for single coil. If you want to make the guitar even brighter, get 1 meg ohm pots.
Swap out the ceramic disc capacitors on the tone pots and get some Sprague "Orange Drops" in 200v (volt) .022uf (micro farad).
If you do not like it when the treble rolls off as you reduce the volume, you can add a .001uf capacitor (for humbuckers .0012 for single coil) between the center solder lug (this goes to the wiper inside the pot) of the volume pot and the solder lug that does NOT go to ground (this is one end of the resistive element)
How do they sound with a bit of gain? Not metal but 70s type of Rock! I'm thinking about putting em in my sheraton

@ChineseR0ck You can listen to my band's album at w w w . blackframe . gr.
I have recorded 80% of the parts with my ES335 and the BK pickups.
For example, have a listen to the song Trip in a loop ;)

These pickups are very sensitive to the vol control and I use this in my advance ;)
I play rhythmic having the Vol & 7 or 8 and when I want to solo I put it to 10.
BUT!
It's not only due to the pickups. The volume pot itself is an also very important factor to that.
If you just improve the electronics on your current guitar and put e.g CTS pots you will see (or better hear) GREAT improvement.
Throw away your current cheap pots. They are CRAP!

I'm sure that you'll be amazed when you put new quality pots and capacitors & switch on your guitar.
Even if you finally choose to change the pups, you will already have great electronics on the guitar ;)

I've recently replaced the Gibson Classic 57 pickups with the Stotmy Mondays, and I am really thrilled with the tonal difference!
The S.M. have lower output, clear and acoustic character and perfect sonic balance in all 3 positions!
