Your hat has reminded me that I need to catch up on Sherlock (the TV series)! ;)
Cursive italic nibs are fun to use. I have one (not a Conway Stewart, though I've tried one - pretty nice) and use it often for calligraphy. Your pen is neat - and eye-catching!. :)
@mkglobetrotter Do you refer to that new series, set in modern-day UK? Is it any good? As far as I'm concerned, Jeremy Brett is still THE Sherlock Holmes ;-).
@sbrebrown Yes, that's the one. I quite enjoy it - it's intelligent and humourous (British humour, of course! ;) ). I've not seen the Jeremy Brett version, so I couldn't tell you how it compares. Perhaps you can give the new one a shot and see for yourself whether you'll like it. :)
Have been using my medium italic 100 for a couple of weeks now and I have to say this is the worst nib I've ever used. It skips like mad regardless of which angle I use. Might have to send it in for service. Not impressed with Conway Stewart right now.
@ttgtaylor Hm, that sucks! I have to say my CS italic is a bit picky too: it likes smooth paper and it detests more textured paper. My nib has a fairly small 'sweet spot' too: angle it slightly off-key and it won't write well (whereas the Platinum Music nib, for example, will write under pretty much any angle). However, my CS nib does write. Perhaps there's something wrong with yours?
Just read somewhere that the first number is the colour. So all pens in classic black are 58. Apparently this is not a numbered limited edition. Still nice though.
I was sure to scream if you'd pulled yet another box out of the diamond (or perhaps laughed if the pen had been in a slipcase in the diamond :P).
Wonderful review, but.... A FRENCH INK IN AN ENGLISH PEN?! Bah! If you were in striking distance I'd hit you with a tightly rolled umbrella! (get 1.5cc's of Diamine in that baby! Stat!). I do wish ConwayS would release a smaller lever-filler (perhaps you'd enjoy their Churchill model? It's huge!).
@SilentSpker So, I guess you're happy I didn't put in German ink, I suppose ;-). [just to be sure, I do like Germany, people!]. I should check out the Churchill!
@ttgtaylor Same thing happened to me: someone informed me that the last model was on sale at La Couronne du Comte - and then it was impulse shopping for me, too :-). I'm willing to bet you won't curse my name after writing with your model! Let me know what you think once you've had a chance to try it out!
Just got the last one from the writing desk in England. It's in classic black and I also went with the MI nib as I don't have any of those. I only got it because I'd seen your video and someone retweeted that it was the last one. Most expensive impulse shopping ever. Don't know whether to thank you or curse your name. Will see when it arrives I guess. BTW, if this pen is to your taste, I highly recommend the Waterman Charleston. I have one in black, silver trim with a broad nib. It's like a big
I have an ehh pen made of plastic and it has a metal nib. (not gold or silver.) I was wondering what a good cheap pen would be. I looked at the safari and the hemispheres which are far superior to mine. What would you recommend to me? (not limited to the two examples above.) I'd really appreciate it If you replied. Thanks. Great stuff!
@INTHENOMANSLAND The Safari is a nice pen. I don't own one, but I have used it. I think that would be an excellent step up from what you have now. The Hemisphere I do own (there's a review in my videos): I like it (but get it with a medium nib, not with the fine I have): that's a nice pen, and it has a metal body, which gives it a nice, decent feel. I also think it may be a bit more expensive than the Safari. I'll send you a private message with some more suggestions!
What a beauty of a fountain pen---congratulations!
I have heard some people refer to the Conway Stewart italic nibs as having some stub-like qualities--ie. the nibs are a bit rounded on the corners, as well as having a bit more tipping material than one would expect with a true italic. Wish I owned a modern CS pen! :)
@retro51fan Thank you - the delay was worth it :-). Regarding your question: I think this nib is fairly 'sharp', but the corners do seem to be just a little bit rounded. Whatever the case: I was afraid the nib might suffer from 'start-up problems', but that isn't really the case - not much anyway (so I'm glad it's not sharper than it is...)!
@heynewgirl Glad you like the videos! I think the diamond-shaped box is just meant to look cool; the diamond shape seems to be a trademark of this brand (the clip also ends in a diamond).

@Lukergamer Wait a minute - you own a Conway Stewart? Never told me that :-)! And clearly, the hat's the star of the video :-)!

@sbrebrown I was referring to La Couronne ;) no, I do not have pockets that deep yet!

Nice hat! :D

Yep. Just found a yellow whirl for sale and it has 371 at the beginning. The second number is the batch number I think.

@ttgtaylor Ah, thanks for the information!

BTW, I noticed your LE serial number is 371/119. Huh? Does that mean this is the 371st pen in a batch of 119? Huh? Weird. Is that explained anywhere?
ttgtaylor 3 months ago
@ttgtaylor Yeah, I'm not sure about that either! Perhaps someone made a mistake and reversed the numbers?

Boo to iPhone for not telling me my comment was too long. Nothing too meaningful was lost anyhow. I was just saying its like a big wet crayon.
