me and my best friend were big Marilyn Martin fans. Unfortunately she was and is such an underrated artist.. I still love to hear the songs from her great albums!
Marilyn hit #28 in Billboard, 3-22-85. She was right. She preferred the rockier stuff, as opposed to 'Separate lives.' God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!
I have not heard this forever. I used to have a promo single and I loved this song. Unfortunately it never made the radio while all kinds of other boring music did. See, there was "Junk Music" back then too. I never saw the video for this song and was not aware of any. She reminds me of Madonna in Lucky Star when she is putting on the shades at the end. I hope this can be bought on iTunes or Amazon soon.
Great music video with a very odd story going on as well.
anyone remember a somewhat simmilar music video from around the same era. Set in a ski lodge or snowbound cabin. Except in the end the girl was some sort of snow beast/yeti?
@Omega2064 ....Y'know, I concider myself something of an expert in 80's music videos, but that rings 0 bells with me. Can you think of any other details?
Not really. All I recall is that it was this couple out in the woods and snow. The woman doing the song I believe and her lover or someone she lured out to the remote cabin. And at the end she transforms into some sort of snow-beast and kills him. Used to play semi-regularly on the TBS channel during the early music video boom. I think it came out around the same time as Night Moves, or possibly predated it by a year or two. Been a long long time.
@girraud Marilyn Martin has been a Realtor on the CityLiving Team since 2005, and has practiced real estate since 2002. She came to real estate from a career in music, touring with such luminaries as Stevie Nicks and Don Henley, which led to a solo career featuring a duet with Phil Collins called “Separate Lives.”
i think marilyn was great by herself, but her real talent was in the harmonies she could pull off while singing duets. unbelievable harmonies. plus her voice was more effective while sung in a more soft, sensual manner.
@Bradaighbunch I really miss listening to this type of music. I graduated in 1984 and I absolutely Love 80`s music. I wish she would have gone farther as a solo artist.
@coca94cola1 I graduated in 1984 also. I really miss the great music from back then, but I'm noticing some groups are going back to that era in their music and videos. Although, nothing is as great as the original.
This is one of my favorite albums of all-time. I had this on vinyl in the 80s. I no longer have a copy and it's virtually impossible to find one. Such a great singer.
Marylin was a backup singer for Stevie Nicks for many years, and Maryling later released this hit song and solo albuim in 1986. But sadly, her music career flew as far as the Spruce Goose. She now sells business realty in Nashville, TN. However, she still looks as hot today as she did in 1986!
About a week ago in Ohio I was visiting a friend who had terminal cancer and has since passed. When I went into the room where she was resting there were 3 women I had not met before. We spent an hour or two talking and I left. A day or two ago I was confronted by someone who said "Do you know who the pretty blonde women in the room was?" Obviously I said "no". To my surprise I find out it was Marilyn Martin. She was incredibly sweet and humble. A very nice woman. Happy to have met her.

She's a fucking copy cat; She can't have the same song title as Bob Seger; she can die and go to hell for naming a song Night Moves when seger has already done it
@segerfan, a LOT of songs share the same title, but having NOTHING to do with each other. (for example, Chicago AND Boston did "Stay The Night"). This nothing new.
This song sounds real good . A real good girl kick ass rock song . Marilyn Martin does her best with this song . No more ' separate lives ' this song is staying . Rock on Marilyn Martin . Hot rock!
This is a great song--one of the best of the '80s. I have her "Marilyn Martin" album, but unfortunately the only other song on there that I kind of liked was "Beauty and the Beast" (I'm surprised nobody's uploaded it yet to YouTube). The rest of the songs were unfortunately all rather forgettable IMO.
Twilight, before Twilight was even written. Notice the male bodies hanging with holes in the neck. Kind of a bow to "The Hunger". But isn't the building at the end of the video, the same building they used in Fright Night (where Peter Vincent lived)
Perhaps she should have gone for another styling that had set her apart from the others. Blonde makes her look too nice and ordinary. She should have gone for the vamp look. Short red hair something like that.
3SALTO: I like the fact that she does NOT look like a typical vampire - makes her that much more dangerous and diabolical! She was out to lure her prey, and if she HAD "gone for the vamp look," she wouldn't have been very successful (re: that loft-ful of dozens of hanging corpses!).
Also, the video would have been totally cheesy if she was all emo'd out. It's perfect as it is.
What a Divaliscious video! A scorned vixen who slaughters preppie guys. And stores the bodies like MEAT in a warehouse. Who would have known? Its a great CAMP video bound to have its day in Retroland. Thanks Alan
I have listened to this album for years. she is a great talent. She went to the same high school as me but she was about 3 years older. The album this song is on is way more progressive than most stuff that was out back then. That is probably why she wasn't as sucessful. Too bad. She is awesome. I suggest if you can get hold of a copy of this album you won't be disappointed. Too bad it is out of print though.
What a great song that never got its due! And the vampire angel to the video -- very clever. It's at once incredibly sexy and dramatic, yet also eerie and alluring. Cool!
