  • i have a 88 and i want to do a v8 swap so wat would i all need to do to finish it its got a v6 now and its 2wd thanks

  • @Conker1967

Depends on what size V8. For starters you'll at least need motor mounts.

  • what did this engine have for mods at the time of shooting this vid?

  • @MalakianMan

It had a mild came with like .500 lift and only like 220 something duration. Ported 1970 cast iron mustang heads with over-sized valves. Bored out to a 357. Custom made headers and dual 3 inch exhaust. Edlebrock air gap intake manifold and a holley 750 carb.

  • @MAMH121890NWATNA do you know what type of mufflers he had on it?

  • @MalakianMan

He had Flo King mufflers. Basically flowmaster 40 series rip offs.

  • @MAMH121890NWATNA Ah yeah I thought I had heard of those but I can't seem to find them anywhere on the internet.

  • @MalakianMan

We bought them at Costless auto parts locally. I'm not even sure if Flo King exists anymore. It might be called something else now, idk. He eventually put flowmaster 40 series mufflers on it and it didn't sound any different. lol

  • I originally questioned dyno readout but

we were running 4.86 gear , 28" tires.

3200 hundred lbs with driver. 1.7 60 ft. I have to admit that there was some 8. teens there.

    80+ mile per hour too.

bought my headers from Ford performance years ago.Like I said had to modify for windsor.

  • Mounted a 351 in my 83 Ranger. Bought custom headers for 302 swap, worked fine, Modified couple runners around starter, is very close without doing that. Had 292 competition cam in place, all MSD electronics, coil over rear suspention, narrowed 9" ford, 3.90 gear. 700 double pumper from quick fuel. Rhoads lifters roller tip rockers, stock 1.78 intake valves

ported and polished cast iron stock heads.

dynoed at 238 rwhp @ 5800 RPM 7.90 consistant in 1/8th, straight motor. 88 mph

  • My brother tried the hooker headers that would fit for a 302 in a ranger and they didn't fit. You have a really good 1/8 mile for only 238rwhp. My brothers ranger now has 340rwhp and ran a best of 11.62 @115mph in the 1/4 mile.

  • that is a lie

  • nice setup your bros got there. you guys should do a turbo setup on that engine. a blowthrough carb setup would be simple and cost efficiant. my friend had a f150 with a 351w that we twin turbod and put down 613hp for about $2300 including the engine. i got plans drawn up for a single turbo setup (cheaper) for this exact engine.

  • hmmmmm i got a 302 stock block, e 303 cam 750 dp weiand intake dui dizzy, headman headers flows dump i make about 75 more horse than you something dont sound right?

  • I'm not sure, maybe your cam and itake manifold are a lot better than ours. My brother is putting a new cam in and some better heads and were hoping it will pull around 300hp at the wheels.

  • @MAMH121890NWATNA should be easy with after-market heads and a small solid cam and competent intake go big on the carb fords like big carbs 750 at least

  • wich heads are u running? i have a 302 with 650 dp edelbrock rpm performer gap intake and with GT40 heads.. and im expecing about 260+ at rear wheels

  • or you can modify the 302 while its out of the mustang and be lookin at 400 plus

  • You can get 400hp out of anything if you have the money.

  • man that gave me the chills... whats the rev limiter set at.... 6500?

  • The rev limiter is set at 6400rpm.

  • thats impressive.. i like it when he lets off the throttle how it jumps.. man thats badass.. what are the numbers?

  • It made 241hp at the wheels with 276rwtq.

  • oh i just saw the description... those are some good numbers man.... if i may ask.. what mods have been done to the motor?

  • It's a totally rebuilt 351 windsor bored out to a 357 with all new parts. It has a .532 lift roller cam, 1970 mustang heads ported and polished with 1.94 intake valves and 1.60 exhuast, edlebrock RPM Air Gap intake manifold, custom long tube headers, and a Holley 750cfm double pumper carburetor.

  • thats a hell of a setup. so the bottom end can take the revs?

  • It has a high nodular iron crank, forged pistons, and forged rods. And it only spins 6000rpm. So yeah, it can take the revs.

  • on average.. what was your budget.. cuz i want to buy a ranger and pretty much do what you did

  • Overall it cost about ten grand. My brother got the heads and block for a good deal so that saved a little money but he also added a ford 9 inch rear end with four link suspension so that added a little money. So it should cost you around ten grand.

  • awsome.. thanks bro

  • No problem. Just to let you know putting a 351 windsor in a Ranger is not an easy operation. You'll probably have to make custom motor mounts and headers unless you can find motor mounts and headers that work. Good luck with it, I hope it turns out cool.

  • what motor would fit best? 302?

  • Yeah a 302 is your best bet. You can buy headers and motor mounts that would work for a 302 swap.

  • and im looking at 200+ hp right?

  • You could get a stock 302 out of a mustang with a little over 200hp at the flywheel. If you want 200hp at the wheels you're going to have to mod it.

  • thats a good number

  • Sounds good. Two chamber Flowmasters?

  • It has two chamber Flow Kings, which are basically a cheap version of flowmaster. :)
