  • This guy I am sure knows a lot but says very little - he could stand for congress!

  • Lol, at 0:20! Look at his face as he is waiting for the cue... Cute.

  • Thank God McDSP works with other workstations besides protools. Protools is the standard but we are all artists and no one is trying to be standard, but the new standard. Of course endless people will disagree, but we can all agree producing music is supposed to be fun, and that fun is found in the eyes of the beholder.

  • Shawty You's a Weirdo WTF.DLL C://REBOOTCRITICAL LOL

  • Glad to be here as the 88888 th person watching the video..This is just amazing..

    Truly inspiring..Thank u.

  • "we're in the silly mood today" hihi! :D love the humour! subbed!

  • I Love this shit thank you

  • at 5:39 what EQ is that?

  • @209coconutty Im assuming its a McDsp plugin, but Im not sure. It has an M on it, but I havent seen that logo on the mcdsp website. Anyone else know? It looks pretty badass.

  • Awesome tutorial guys, Pensado is brilliant! What's that Eventide plugIn again? Waves?

  • This is the first time ive seen this show.... Really informative, I like it... Subscribed ;)

  • nice job

  • like somebodies gonna turn down his mixing job and the money he's getting paid for it because he thinks the song isn't "Real Music". Plus a song is a song, just like a TV show. Some people like it and some people dont. Get over it!

  • Everytime I watch one of these guys' name dropping, self congradulatory videos, all I can think is do they actually think that what they are producing is music? It's akin to having Ronald McDonald give a 43 minute dissertation on how to cook a good meal.

  • good stuff...thnx n blessinz!!

  • Why not get the Geezer to sing it properly in the first place and circumvent all this jazz?

  • SHAWTY YOUSE A WEIRDO

  • To all the people that say "I would never mix that type of music" A. You must not be getting paid much, and B. I'd be interested in seeing your mixing reel..

  • Shawty you's a wierdo

  • I learn a lot from you. Thank you. It would be my dream to sit in your studio and watch you work.

  • Great show!

Thanks a lot for the great info! ☮

  • I love these videos im an engineer and it always helps to get another engineers perspective.....u can always learn something!

  • I love watching this show. Very informative!!!!! Thanks Dave

  • I've obviously hit a nerve with my comment. My post was not intended to disrespect your abilities as engineers. My degree is in engineering, and I now work in the field, but this isn't a pissing contest.

My point was to reference the fact that we all entered into engineering because of our love for music, and the minute we begin selling our abilities for garbage is the minute that we've created a conflict of interest. IMHO music like this should be abandoned and shunned. It's cultural poison.

  • nigga arguing with a drum machine!! yawnnnnnnnnnn, got any music to play?

  • Peeeerlease...firstly,the vocal was compressed to fuck before you started on it.Why are you talking about rock vocals with this sugar puff autotuned trash your using as a demo?.Then kids, take the Ssssss out, then put more top on them to make them stick out more, then use a de-esser.Use your own ears kids, dont listen to this buffoon. If he was anygood he'd be to busy to be on here.

  • @NOISYASTRONAUTS

You may want to google "Dave Pensado".

  • @NOISYASTRONAUTS Well....ammm....I don't know what to say.... You ware actually serious? Or you really don't know who he is?

  • Vocal Mixing Techniques:

    Step 1: Listen to vocal

    Step 2: Hear "Shawty You's a Weirdo, Shawty You's a Weirdo"

    Step 3: Select Audio Clip

    Step 4: Press "Delete"

Step 5: Click "Yes I'm Sure"

Step 6: Find some real music to work on...

  • @MakeItJungle

All I heard was notes, transients and frequencies, buddy. Training to be an engineer will remove your tastes from the equation almost entirely.

Which is a good thing if you plan to earn a living in the industry, it's hard enough to find work without alienating entire genres based on your own tastes.

  • @MakeItJungle Yeah but you have to remember that by not working on a specific type of music you are painting yourself into a corner as an engineer. I'd be interested to see who is on your reel

  • @MakeItJungle if youre a professional and is getting paid for this, maybe as a freelance work, you gonna think twice before doing that.lol

  • @byLivio Exactly my thought. The more you know the better.

  • @MakeItJungle I love you for typing this comment, honestly.

  • @MakeItJungle hahahaha

  • To me that track sounded like it had an effect on it at the beginning. If it didn't, that mike sound like it had a little auto-tune feature. What type of mic were you using?

however, when you actually added an effect it was noticeable.

  • Ive been working on my music for like 2 years or so and I had all the production and everything else handles but i just couldnt get it sounding good enough overall....i came accross your show just by chance and no lie my mixing of my music is finally coming together like my improvement has been about 80% better for that I thank you.Ive taken your show as my guide and started doing my own research and studying all topics involved with music/sound.GodBless

  • shawty you's a weirdo!

  • @ThisWeekIn hey guys what mouse is dave using?? ive seen it a few times in high end studio's.Thank you!

  • hey, check out my.. j bieber cliip i have on my pr0fiIe

  • Damn you "N"!!! I wondered how I kept turning that feature on for the longest time... That in itself made the video totally worth it hahaha!

  • If we missed the other 256...

  • mere thanking this guy wont be enough....~

  • where can i get Eventide 949 Harmonizer ?

  • Dave Pensado sounds like Will Ferrell's drunk Harry Carry impersonation...

  • Hahahaha 07:06 Damn I'm good! :D

  • thanks

  • Ok Dave I can see you do have no plugins on the actual Vocal Track, Im assuming you have to have the entire vocal sent to the aux track right above. I can see when you select you plugins you select the aux above and your send as well. Another question, why do you feel this is a better technique to send the entire vocal to what seems like a Vocal "Mix/FX/Vocal Chain" AUX. What are the benefits, sound? Workflow? CPU usage?

  • @Jayn2662 This is exactly what I was wondering. It must be an Aux (send). Not all of us are PT users.

  • @Jayn2662 Agreed

  • Hey Dave first I wanna thank you so much for sharing such vital information. My first question is how do you have you effects sent on this video. Based on the visual quality I can see that on the actual vocal track you have no plugins not even dynamic plugins. Correct my if Im wrong (based on visual quality) do you have most of your plugins on a aux and then send you lead vocal to that aux??? Excuse my ignorance or poor vision.

  • Thanx Dave

  • Awesome man. How do you go about treating the dubs or layerd vocals. Like as far as eq and compression. Is there a sertin way you do it? Or do you treat them all as leads and just set levels and pans? I got the panning down pretty well. Just not sure about the other parts.

  • Great stuff i shall keep watching and learning

  • Great Show Dave! Thank you again!

  • Hey guys, last weeks one was in 720p and was far better to see regarding what you're showing us (plug-in-wise) and also better in audio quality. Any chance of offering that every week please?

  • @virtualgeezer We cut all the Into The Lair videos as 720P videos which we put in our "clips" section

  • @ThisWeekIn - Where is the "clips" section exactly? I cannot find it anywhere. Thanks!

  • @ThisWeekIn man i love your show.....can u tell me a plugin to create a chopper or stutter effect on vocals ....... ive tried everything but i not sound perfect .... help me plz :)

  • Great show! Regarding John Bonham. Check out this DVD by Jeff Ocheltree (Bonham's drum tech) called 'Trust your ears'. It explains in depth Bonham's micing. Thx Dave!

  • These videos are very helpful. Thanks DAVE PENSADO for taking the time to make these video. Also love the show and guest

  • whats the reverb used on the song?

  • thx dave !

  • It would be good to devote a program to hard/heavy rock mixing techniques for a bit of a change from the rap, hip hop etc., genre's. I know it's huge, but rock still thrives.

  • This is gold Dave. Thanks!

  • Another great episode, love all the information! Oh and what and AWESOME McDSP deal!!! Thank you Dave and Colin!!
