Were it any other man who'd committed these acts, they'd have been lined up against a wall and shot. Churchill himself would have only been too happy to have pulled the trigger. That Edward was perfectly willing to spend the lives of British citizens to reclaim the throne shows how utterly unfit he was to wear the crown, or even be allowed the right of continuing on as a British subject.

E. VII was criticized for abdication, but perhaps he intended to deceive Hitler and position himself to moderate harsh subjugation of England if America remained neutral, and Germany won?

If Germany had defeated England Edward would have been reinstated as king of England. He should never have been forced to abdicate the throne in the first place. I believe that he was a far superior man to his brother. He would have served England well as an ally of Germany.

I watched the whole of this documentary and found it fascinating. I am sorry that these allegations were not tested in court. What a despicable selfish and unintelligent man. Rather than arranging an accident, as you suggest here has been done to a former member of the royal family, he ought to have been openly tried for treason and then imprisoned like any other common criminal, or even executed, as others would have been. I find the cover up speaks volumes about the lack of character of the British royals, who apparently are more interested in image than in substance. Elizabeth has never visited Israel, and I hope she never will visit our holy soil.

When the monument to Queen Mary was unveiled Edward and his wife returned to England for the ceremony. The Queen Mother ignored them and stood with her back to them. Good for her! She was remarkably clear about certain basic values and that is her lasting greatness.

The monarchy was lucky. Albert Duke of York was the best of that generation. The country was lucky that Edward persuaded himself that Wallas Simpson was the necessary to his life and quit the throne. Albert , when became George VI and his wife of affectionate memory, Queen Elizabeth fulfilled their duties without great honour and distinction. Thus the monarchy survived. Now the monarchy needs another bit of luck--something that will rid us of threat of Charles's succession to the throne.
