  • All things considered...this has to be the single stupidest way to fight a war...

  • @WARORK93 - Well, believe it or not, this was how each battle in WWI was fought. The "stupidest" battle would be the Battle of The Somme. On the morning, around 20,000 British soldiers were massacred because they were ordered to get out of their trench and walk towards the German lines. Look up "The Trench - The End" for a video on it.

  • I know the world hates america but godam we have bailed the world from alot of evil,God bless america and the haters go fuck yourself

  • The screaming eagle @ 4:30 is chilling

  • Brilliant song, brilliant video. Enough said. :)

  • the images CAN NOT be from "passendale"... look at the german helmets, the "puckelhaube". In 1917 the germans had the "stahlhelm", a model almost similar at the helmet form the germans in WW2.

The images shown here come from the 1930 movie "all quiet on the western front"

  • they are singing for the amaricans who only joined in 1917... also he is showing footages of german soldiers....

  • @litlebigtwerp Singing for Americans? They are British. Passchendaele didn't have Americans.

  • @halfam Passchendaele was fought mainly by the Brits against the Germans. There were some French divisions involved as well, but the British forces did most of the fighting. Also, @littlebigtwerp , the soldiers in this video are French (round helmets with crest) and German (spiked helmet).

  • @litlebigtwerp Yeah. By the way, this is footage from a film called "All Quiet On The Western Front", 1930 version. The soldiers in this scene are German (spiked helmets) and French (round helmets with crest). British and American troops wore very similar rounded helmets. Also, the US forces didn't actually enter the war until early 1918, even though the US entered the war in 1917.

  • No-one can ever win in war. While the enemy may be defeated, the losses will never justify it. Maybe we can salvage some small victory if we all just promise this:

    Never again.

  • @TheWeegeeOfWin Fighting is part of human nature. No matter what people do.

  • Great vid and no problem with the inaccuracies you hit closer to home than the rest.

  • that orchestral part at 3:45 is so awesome!

  • woohoo. i'm the 17'000th viewer

  • so many young men charging to thier dearths such waste a life

  • oh shit! i saw this last year in history in mr. heatherly's class! holy shit! haha, omfg, i was listening to this song on my ipod cuz its at the very end and i was bored, haha

  • WOOO WE SAW THIS IN MR.T's history class today

  • The movie or the music video?

  • hey, im belgian and i live near paschendale, this is spelled according to the spelling TODAY, so iron maiden is very right in this one, you guys were just ignorant ;-)

  • @gespstylo

The song is about the Battle of Passchendaele not Paschendale. Sorry but you show your ignorance.

Thats like calling the battle of Tannenberg a battle of Olsztyn because the battleground lies within Polish borders.

  • There ya go. Exactly. You can even look on the battle maps.

  • well, its the same, old and new spelling for the same place. didnt mean to offend anyone, its just the same. and as far as i know, there are no 2 passchendaeles/paschendales in the great war where that many ppl died in such a short period of time so there is just 1 place, different names

  • I'm happy that we were able to reach some kind of agreement.

Peace and RiP for those who died in this battle.

  • The name actually is Passendale. Neither Paschendale nor Passchendaele. End off

  • Look at Belgian maps. End of.

  • @halfam The original Dutch spelling was Passchendaele the name was changed to distance the toen from the battle.

  • @9evilnine9 I know.

  • @machierl Well you are partially correct, Passendale is a modern day name for the city, Passchendaele is the original Dutch spelling, the people of the town changed the name to try and distance themselves from the bloddy battle!

Not being disrespectful I have done a great deal of studying on WWI and this battle in particular.

  • @9evilnine9 Well Germans today pronounce it as "Passchendaele". I know this because i'm German lol and my whole family says it this way. Just saying.

  • Yesterday Henry Patch - the last man who rememberred the horror of war in trenches - passed away at the age of 111.

He was fighting in the battle of Passchendaele. He was seriously wounded during that battle and hardly survived.

Out of the remaining 3 living veterans of WW1 - two didn't take part in combats and one was serving in Royal Navy.

Honor of his memory - Henry Patch - the last veteran of Passchendaele.

We will never forget! - Rest In Peace

  • u mixing upo names, henry alligham wqas alast surviving solider and haerry patch is the proper name

  • Long live henry Patch!!!!

  • And the many other brave soldiers that fought on both sides!

  • You mispelled Passchendaele.

  • Yes. They truly stopped using them in 1916, but most troops thew them out after 1915.

  • im not trying to be meman or annything but lots of people dont know how to actually spell Passchendaele right no offense

  • I know. The artists (Iron Maiden) spelled it this way.

And by the way, different countries spell the village different. The English spelled it Paschendale just to let you know.

  • so its basically just a personal opinion then

  • Yeah basically but if you want to use the TEXTBOOK, CORRECT, NATIVE way, it's Passchendaele. I hope I helped.

  • I´m not trying to be mean, too. But it´s actually not Passchendaele - it´s Passendale (have been there 3 days ago!!). but who cares. No matter how you write it. It has been a horrible place about 93 years ago. Today it´s a really beautiful village. Greetings from Germany

  • Yeah, I was there like two years ago. It depends where you come from. If you are from Central Europe, it's Passchendaele. If you are from the U.K. or the U.S. or any other allied country at that time, it's Paschendale. Take a look at Allied and Central Powers maps. You'll see.

  • I think it makes most sense to take a look at a Belgian map, don´t you agree? So I had one when we travelled through it......don´t wanna be a wisenheimer but believe me that they call and write it Passendale ;)

  • Haha true, true. Hey, I didn't doubt you lol.

  • there are many spellings of paschendale, noone even knows how to spell it wrong :P

  • the german counterattack - as it's shown in the clip here - was the first blitzkrieg imho. - bloody fast.

  • you know how you can tell this ww1 bayonets are huge in ww2 they shortend them so they woudldnt get stuck

  • They were smaller to save materials.

  • yea!!!!!!!!! go canada!!!!!! R.I.P all soldiers who faught and died in WW1 and 2

  • You can copy this clips in "Im Westen nichts Neues". The first aiming shootist is Paul Bäumer.

  • Yeah the live one was cool too.

And yeah, Eddie is awesome =D

  • wow i love how they have different pictures of eddie for each song

  • I like the live version better it has the Wilfred Owen peom as an intro

  • isnt it passchendaele? or is that in some other language?

  • Yeah. The title of the song from the CD is Paschendale. Depends where you are from. Soldiers said it different.

  • ahh yes, the creeping shadow artillery tactic.

  • Listen morons-Just another JEW war that pitted gentile against gentile...

Other than the Revolutionary war of 1776, most wars since are creations of elite bankers who grow rich upon the deaths of the manipulated men that they play like chess pieces. Until we turn our guns in the 'right' direction we will always be someone elses cannon fodder....

  • the allied casualty-to-ground-gained ratio was crazy in this battle, 2 allied deaths per inch gained

  • They fought for a land not big enough to bury the dead.

  • @Pereira360 2 inches for every death. I won't say anything more.

  • the part from 6:30 to 6:35, that guy must have really good aim

  • a german stormtrooper I think. But he hasn't the ordinary stahlhelm in 3 basecolours, but quiet a good aimer :D

  • dude u know ur stuff about world war 2.....i mean world war 1,......i kinda feel srry for the germans because they got their assess handed to them in both world war one of 1914, and world war 2 1945

  • Ok cause one country managed to cause one of the largest body counts in the world twice

  • ya i gotta agree on the largest body count but paschendale had the most deaths out of world war one and world war two....germans got their assess kicked in both world war one and world war 2

  • O yea fer sure

  • well even though they (the Germans) lost the battle of Passchendaele they had half the casulties as the Allies. so ya they got their asses kicked but they filled quite a few body bags before hand. (the body count was 250,000 Germans to 500,000 allies)

  • ya maybe feel sorry for them for the first world war (which they, like everyone else, got dragged into unnecessarily) but how could you feel sorry for them for the 2nd world war they caused it! im only sorry that they and the commies didnt kill each other off

  • @shadowmossess the guy's name is "kat" katcinczy

  • some scens may be real but some are deffinatly not, for example soldiers dyring with no blood, and the german hemluts weren spikey until WW2

  • Actually, those spiked helmets are Prussian helmets, which were used by Prussia (duh) until 1870 and then by Germany until WWI. The WWII Stahlhelm didn't have any kind of spike on them.

  • i must have listened to this song like 20 times by now and i love the video that goes with it great job

  • honor those german casualties, who has to be honored!

  • Excellent song, I got the album 3 months ago and this is the only song that really stuck out, I`m really pleased there`s a video to go with it. Well done Iron Maiden, this song fucking ROCKS!

  • man its november 11,2008..rememberance day...this is a good time to listen to this song

  • signed!

  • The movie is All Quiet on the Western Front (from the info). Really looks amazing, I'm going to have to check that one out, is it silent?

  • i dont think so, altho the did re-do it in color

  • i don't think its silent. if you listen during some of the quieter parts of the song, you can hear sound effects from the film.

  • so this is from a 1930th movie, it's more realistic then most modern day movies.

    Great scenes, utter madness.

  • That old? My god, that movie must have been the best of the best war movies of its time.

It included all the modern day realistic violence, what is the name of it?

  • I'm thinking they're real scenes from war.

    = )

  • Hah :P. Its ok. But i figured its a movie called.. All quite on the western front. Just like the one from the 80's.

  • lol, were cameras even around back then? My class is doing WW1 battle projects for our, ironically Composition, and thankfully I got assigned this battle. We're reading AQOTWF in class. Great book.

  • literally, my favorite song i have ever heard in my entire life... gives me fucking goosebumps everytime i hear it... before games, work, anything and it pumps me up... MAIDEN FUCKING RULES THE EARTH

  • UP THE IRONS!

  • the last long verse the way it dosn't rhyme at the ends like the rest seems like a mistake at first, but then you start to relize the rushing feeling as if there is no time to rhyme and it just adds to the emotion brought by the song

  • everytime i listen to the song and read the lyrics, i cant help but feel awe, at how well the words are in harmony with music. Great song, and great movie!

  • nice lyrics Maiden - the best band ever

  • hell yeah they rock!!!

  • this song kicks ass

  • whats with the rating.....2? common man whats wrong with this vid......5!

  • It's because all the cretins don't like old or black and white films. Such a shame, All Quiet on the Western Front (the film used here) is brilliant.

  • i love the black in white because it gives an authentic feel, awesome film

  • Yes it does. I wonder how the men that fought and died during the Great War felt... the powerful feeling going "over the top"
