Great car, I drove several of them in The Netherlands during the 70's and early 80's.

Even had one with a 6 Volts system, very slow starter in the winter. Always liked the dash gearlever.

I remember this model from my younger years, since my older brother had one, and occasionally I was allowed to drive it. The shifter was highly unusual as it stuck out in the dashboard, yet one can get used to it easy. It was neither luxurious nor sporty, but what it was is a very practical car with better handling than many small car and lots more room, yet with a thrifty engine.

I feel that I should also mention that while being the owner of this particular mode of transport I was going through a very lonely period of my (then) young life. Having had my confidence shattered by a feminazi girlfriend (not having had much in the first place). I drove the roads alone for almost a year, ignoring even my male friends. Since the I have got back on track as well as can be expected but the Renault 4 always stirs mixed emotions of that rather bleak period of my life. Good car

I had the van version. I had the same style stereo bolted onto the dashboard but on the passenger side. Whenever I picked up hitchhikers they often got a fright when I reached over to flip out a tape or change radio stations.
