  • @spexy16 Congratulations! It is really easy to teach your baby. It's just like teaching a baby how to wave bye-bye. Check out the link in my channel to an article I wrote about how to sign with your baby. You might find it interesting

  • Thanks :-)

My account is Laura Fireese Berg on facebook

  • am learing alot thanks to this women n this beautiful baby..

am keep on going!! sign language is so cool!

  • you're a great mom...we should dedicate our time and our lifes so that our children would be educated. This is so important for each one of them, but iven if sometimes we dont realise. Children are God's blessings.

  • oooo god soo cutee

  • cuutee you 2!!

  • the baby's name is so unique i love it! fireese is a beautiful name!

  • you're right! I love her name too!

Vey smart mom, and a very smart baby!

  • hi laura, im from el centro CA, we talk before. My baby boy its 11 1/2 months end I trying to teach signs but he dont put much atencion to me. What I can do?

a boy its so hard to teach? Im sorry for my english I from mexico.

  • Boys can sometimes pick it up a little slower but don't give up! He's still fairly young. Some babies pick it up faster than others. Maybe join our facebook group and you'll see some other moms who have this same concern and people's responses to it. I'd say just keep being consistent, make sure you sign the word every time you say it.

  • Yo have a really cute and smart baby!!!

  • We also to baby signs. #1 Benefit - talk about taking the frustration and guessing out of activities. My baby gilr comes to be and sings "diaper change" after a poopy, which is awsome 'cause she has very sensitive skin. #1 mistake - getting her to show off her massive vocabulary of signing... it made her go on a signing strike for a couple weeks

  • Too cute :-)

Yes, normally we suggest now getting babies to show off their signs for that reason. My daughter loved showing her signs so it was easy for me to do it for the videos to show other parents the benefits of signing with babies. We rarely asked her to show the signs in everyday life.

  • this i agree is a very good tool to teach when there are young. children sometime goes death and if they know this they still can comunacate with other people. and if your learning ith the kids they always now what you are saying to them even though they cant hear. congrats on your baby havinmg this skill

  • My daughter just turned 10 month and she can sign about 20 words english and spanish. But Sometimes when I asker her to sign she doesn;t want to do it. So I think i will just sign when I am talking about that "word".

  • Yes, that is what you should do. Normally I tell parents to sign for the word and not 'ask' babies to show off the sign. When I did these videos I just wanted to show other parents what babies are capable of so I would ask my daughter to show me the sign. However, in our everyday life and interaction I would only use the sign when we were using the word. So you are definitely doing the right thing! And 20 signs at 10 months is great! Keep up the wonderful work :-)

  • that s wonderful baby, and i love that way the mom taught her

  • some people believe that teaching sign language to babies was cruel but now i have proof that it definately makes babies alot smarter your baby is so cute by the way

  • I like it !

I'm a girl from Belgium and i'm really exited with raising (is this the correct spelling?!) babies..

    I like you're working style !

I think when i'm grow up ,I just gonna give it a try..

And I'm really sorry for my bad bad english ! :)

  • You English is great! You should be proud of yourself that you can speak more than one language :-)

  • Thank you :)

  • Is your little girl deaf? I'm 12 and im deaf in both ears 50% in each and i would know how it feels being deaf its not really that nice but you can actually learn great stuff!

    Your an amazing mother!

I would love to turn out like you in the future.

Keep up with the good work!

  • She's not deaf but ASL is a great second language to learn :-)

    Thank you for your comment!

  • i'm just wondering, how do you exactly start teaching them signs? do you show them an object and say what it is while doing the sign and helping them form it with their hands or what exactly do you do? I really am amazed...

  • Thank you :-)

If you go to may channel by clicking on my user name you'll see a link to an article I wrote about how to get started signing with your baby. Please feel free to send me a message if you can't find it :-)

  • love the idea, my son is 2 and deaf and I am having a hard time getting his attention on signing any hints on how to get him to focus?

  • I always found the best time to teach her was when she was sitting at the table. For some reason she was able to focus on me more as there were fewer distractions. I'd try that. It is rather hard to get the attention of a two year old :-)

  • I love the idea of signing with toddlers. we use it where i work, and it is amazing that they can learn so many signs. I really wish I had seen this video when my old best friend was pregnant. I tried telling her about baby signing, and all the good reasons to use it but of course, me not being a mother she said he wanted her son to talk as soon as possible. but they all will learn at their own pace, and signing is just such a wonderful way for them to communicate before they can talk!!!

  • i remember before i had my daughter (june 19th, 2008).. about teaching her sign language before she was able to speak.. (since when i was in french that's how i learned the vocabulary.. through signing..) so i figured it should work out about the same.. i came across your videos and i'm just amazed at how well she picked up on it. she is almost 5 months.. and i started signing to her about a week ago. :) wish me luck. your daughter is soo beautiful and has such a wonderful name. :)

  • Thank you :-)

Good luck! Feel free to email me anytime if you have questions!

  • Hmm<=====i always put hmm befor i post a coment but are u a babyologist or some thing....im 11 im tring to teach my little brother how to do something that will help him or something mabye sighn language is good for hmm im wondering how long does it take for a baby to learn sighn language....

  • No, I'm not a babyologist but I am a teacher and university guest lecturer on the topic of using sign language to promote literacy. The length of time depends on how old the baby is and how much you sign to the baby. You need to be consistent when introducing signs.

  • that's really amazing.

  • That just blows my mind. My daughter is two now, and I'm amazed with how smart she is, and the things she comes up with. I wish I had thought about something like this when she was much younger! I can only imagine how far advanced she would be now. I know it's never too late, though. Luckily I was good at being in tune with what she wanted so she wasn't a very frustrated baby. But still - WOW. I'm SO impressed by this!!! I hope I can do this with the next one. Awesome job!

  • this is amazing...im partially deaf, and i want to learn sign language, but for some reason i find it hard. your baby is really gifted:) your baby seems like shes really close to you, and ive watched other videos and the two of you seem very close...i know a lot of toddlers to be a bit more ill tempered than i see here. does the sign language bring the two of you closer?

  • Thanks for your comment :-) My daughter and I are very close and maybe the early bond though sign language helped. I love being her mom!

  • the two of you are beautiful:) i love her name, its very creative!she is very smart and will be very successful in life:)

  • I think this is a wonderful thing! I want to try it with my new son, who's 2 months right now. I have a three-year old son as well, so will it be beneficial to teach him this late? I'd love to use it to help him learn the letters. I was so impressed with Fireese in the video where she is writing her name, she's my son's age in that video!

  • Thanks for your comment! It is definitely not too late to teach your three year old! I used sign language with my grade 8 students and they loved it. I really helps improve skills such as spelling and fine motor skills. There are huge benefits for all children. Plus ASL is the third most used language in the United States so it is a good one to know!

  • yes :-)

  • cute!

  • that is so cute!! Trying to teach my 2 yr old some sign language since she doesn't really talk yet. Any suggestions to help me.

  • Thanks.

At two I would try and find thins she is interested in and teach her the signs for those things. Try to be consistent and sign the word every time you say it. Does she say any words? Please feel free to email me for more information and advice.

    Laura
