did you know you wanted to be an actor when you were younger or did you just sort of fall into it? I'm going to have to pick my options soon and I have no clue what so ever what I want to be when I'm older and everyone else seems to know so I was kind of wandering whether you think that the arts is something i should consider?
@purplebob101010 I knew I wanted to be an actor from when I was about 4 or 5 but it was until years later aged about 15 or 16 I actually was able to develope the self cinfidence to do it. The only advice I can give is don't fell pressured to follow one path, see what it is you like doing first. It's said that life is short and maybe it is but its quite long enough if you make the wrong decsion. Keep your options open and experience as much as possible.
I do agree that it's best to do a job that you enjoy and I hate it when people don't take individuals working in the arts seriously for example with me being a fine artist to you being an actor, in which we both have learned life long skills on how to express ourself in a constructive way, being able to visualise a situation and how to deal with which are just a few examples.
@grnlfe01 Haha, I always use himself, but I wondered if others noticed the use of herself as much as I do. I shall have to do the same to a member of the fairer sex. Is everything I do a commentary on society? Is society a commentary on itself? Yup. Probably. Those sociologists have their work cut out for 'em. Which explains why they never do anything.
By the way, sometimes I feel like I'm a different person when I'm reading a good book, and that's another reason I like reading. Seeing things from various perspectives is very interesting and valuable.
@AlphaNerd3 Indeed. That is part of the buzz of acting for me. Its a glimpse of what it is to be another person and that can help to inform my own life. There is really nothing that compares to that. :)
I think it'll be good for me especially my confidence which has gradually been destroyed attrition each year I've been doing the course they've wanted me to do I think film will either be the making or distruction of me but I have to try it'll kill me to never try
@grnlfe01 My sister used her love of singing to try and stop me saying she would have loved to have been a professional singer but it wasn't a realistic goal for her and my answer was you clearly didn't want it enough it can't have truely been your dream or no way would you have given it up
I'm going to uni when I'm finish my course to do film which what I always wanted to do before what my parents wanted me to do got in the way hopefully by then I'll be out from under their thumb because they think I'm crazy to go and follow my dream infact my sister had an arguement with me for it
@TheDarksEmpyrean Er...no you haven't but I thank you very highly for that. I feel rather like I have some sort of linguistic God mode enabled when I speak with North Americans. I try not to play up to the fact because NO ONE should have that sort of power.lol
That was a very well thought out explanation. I only have to disagree with you on one point. Being a writer, you live at least as many lives as being an actor. As a writer, when you develop a character, you have to figure out where he/she is coming from, what makes them tick. So you have to be them for a little while, give them a complete history and motivations.Otherwise they don't make sense. Also, almost all a writer says/acts has been thought of by a writer first.
@scratchingcat That is very ture I should have been more clear on that point. I was referring to the fact that the actor in much the same way as a writer does, must go through the things that make a character tick and find "The Truth" of the character. I didn't mean to imply that writers don't do this all I meant was that the process is slightly different for an actor.
@grnlfe01 Having done both a bit of acting and a bit of writing, I think they help each other out. As a writer, it really helps to 'act out' your characters. Stand like they would stand, say some of their lines the way they would, things like that. As an actor, you might write down a little vignette of that character that is not connected with the current script. Say, how he learned to ride his bike, something like that. Both exercises help to get to know the character better.
@grnlfe01 Some in high school, some in college, a few acting courses later on. Nothing nearly as professional as you do, but I've had my days on stage.
@scratchingcat I didn't realize. Cool. Welll like I said before in wasn't my intention to imply that writers don't do or get what actors do. Just different approaches to the same sort of thing for different outcomes.
I think in the end of everything, the answer to "Why do I (insert thing you do here)" should always be because it makes me feel like I am complete and contributing and I love it.
I agree with all of this :') drama made me confident and more comfortable in myself and has helped me grow into the person I am today... and for that I am forever grateful (: brilliant video Sam xx
I really want to become an actress and this video just boosted my confidence! Good Video!
