My auto tech teacher gave me a frame, he doesn't know what kind of bike it came from, is it possible to build a bike with the frame? Without knowing what exact parts fit? Or do I have to make some re arrangements of the frame? Thanx.

@TheABLTZ Anything is possible if you throw enough time and money at it. But, I strongly suggest you do some research and find out what it actually is. This will save you tons of time, grief, and pain....

I have a crack in my steel frame that is getting longer. It's a twin spar, main frame rail, with 3 x 3/4 inch rectangular section made of mild steel? Is there any trick to weld this spar given I don't know what the steel composition is? It is a powder coated finish so obviously that will have to be ground back. Looks like the crack is opposite a main stress point with engine mount and shock mount nearby. Perhaps it needs strengthening at that point. Thanks.

I guess it is kind of a chicken or egg scenario. I don't know what the weld trick would be without knowing for sure the type of metal we are dealing with. I would Google looking for any tech info or sources out there that would be able to tell you for sure what it was made of.

As far as the weakness in the frame, I would def. gusset and/or reinforce while you are fixing the crack, otherwise, it is just a matter of time before you will be doing the repair again.

@richprint29 Either shim the drivetrain mount surfaces and sand or file the axle plate surfaces like explained in the video or use a different frame for the build. --Al
