@NeonFoxLetsPlays You got it almost right! It translates to: "Endless darkness and darkness outside, but inside of me a storm is occuring. Endless darkness and dark ink drips and I try and/to burn the boat's husks." Just minor details! Kolniður doesnt translate to "endless darkness" really, but it's the closest translation. Kolniður is the darkest of pitch black coal. Kind of. Source: I speak Icelandic :)
@NGC3370JT well i'm still learning Icelandic. i know Kolniður isn't technically a real word but "endless darkness' is about as close as you will get to the real meaning.
@NeonFoxLetsPlays Kolniður is for sure a real word. There is no accurate meaning in english simply. There are translations to other languages in scandinavia, such as Swedish, my native language. It's called "Kolsvart" in Swedish, so I can for sure guarantee you it's real. It's just the darkest of pitch black.
@NGC3370JT I'm taking this from a post on another forum: "i think jónsi created a new word here, from the word "kolniðamyrkur" which means "pitch black darkness". he took the "kolniða-" (pitch black) prefix and made the noun "kolniður" so it stands on its own as pitch black anything." -bjossi, the jonsi forum.
@kunyasobe Jónsi says in an interview on the same DVD, that these few 'sadder' songs can be about people not wanting you to chase your dreams, or something along those lines. It looks like the wolf is stopping the deer from what it wants to do. The deer turns around and fights the wolf, and it looks like it wins. I see it as a sort of "Chase your dreams, and don't let anyone stop you from achieving whatever you wish to achieve." I could be wrong, this is just my opinion.

What's a perfect song ~
It's make me silent & think of everything and nothing
STRANGE feeling deep inside of me
See my self alone and need to be with the moon
Wanna drop my tears for all the things in my LIFE
If all that mean something
IT'S MEAN THE SONG SO POIGNANT & GO THROUGH THE HEART & MIND
For that i called it perfect ~

"Kolniður og myrkur úti
En í mér, ríkir óveður
Kolniður og dimmur lekur blek
Ég reyni og brenni báta skel"
"Endless dark or darkness outside,
But for me, there is a storm,
Endless dark or dark dripping ink,
I try and burn boat husks"
I believe that's the translation, which if it is then Jónsi is a lyricist god.

@rulopotter1 This is Jonsi we're talking about, that doesn't mean it's Icelandic! (Although in this case it does)

I feel so privileged to be one of the relatively few viewers of this video. Hands down, some of the most beautiful and moving music on the planet.

The best part is when he sings high at the end. Every time I listen to the album I have to rewind that part at least once.
