I found this on Youtube several years ago. I don't know who originally posted it. It's from the movie "Dance Craze" which is out of print and extremely hard to find -- which is a real shame!
@potsdammer (The only) 70 mm blow-up print of 'Dance Craze' ran at the Bradford Widescreen Weekend in March this year. Joe Dunton was there, and during the discussion afterwards did say something about while he thought the film really needed the big screen, perhaps the time being right for a Blu-ray release of the film.
I don't think they did did they? Opened for THE CLASH in PARIS...covered in spit...I thought no way to treat ladies...the whole thing was shambolic...but best memories
played with them at a few gigs....they were great females, what a hoot, they invited us too london to do a gig with them, wicked time we had.....if you see this Rhoda hope your ok......
This is an out-take from the film "Dance Craze". The editor combined two different performances of this song during the same tour. Hence the "costume changes". It was a bit of a clumsy film.
I'm a little out of my depth with you all who actually lived/live in the UK. Just out of curiosity, what do you think of the American band Rancid? They have mined a great deal from the 2-tone sound in their day. I consider them to be the closest to the spirit of the Coventry-based bands from the '70-'80 era.
You should really check out Dancehall Crashers. They were an early third wave band originally founded by Matt and Tim of Operation Ivy before they left to form Rancid. Probably the closest you can get to the second wave sound from a third wave band. They were able to bridge the two genres quite well.
there wasnt skinheads like from the late 60s early 70s and that you fool,i lived the two tone scene , mods were'nt around either it last no more than 3 years 79-82 b4 the new romantic took over, the skinheads your talking about into oi scene where just racist fool..nothing to do with ska reggae and two tone
thank u moreaka, countrymanuk said there were no mods or skins in '79 till '82 i think that was the main time for them being around since the jam were at their peak for the mods and u had all the 2tone ska bands for the skins, not all skins went on to follow oi music but a lot did
in 1980 when 2 tone was at its height ,there was loads of mods around, their influences were the jam, the who, lambretters the list goes on and on, all the fights on brighton beaches from skins and mods on bank holiday mondays. fighting skinheads in the football grounds.everyone around south of england was a mod or a skin, rude boys where really smart skinheads but not nf.
in the 1980 there was a mod and ska revival,a lot of people link the two!im a massive ska two tone fan not a mod,tho i have massive respect for the mod revival too at that given time, long live tha ska and long live my scooter, lol, ska ska ska rudey!!!
both of you are talking Rubbish , when two tone was a round there wasnt mods, skinheads or anything like that , it was juts about the music , you either where into two tone/ ska or you where into heavy metal,,
what planet are u from countrymanuk? britain was full of skins and mods around the 2tone era, the skins all followed ska bands like madness, specials, selecter, bad manners before the oi scene appeared, u must have been on the mushrooms u hippy
Erm... I got my first skinhead in 1979 and saw all the two tone bands over the next two years.... plenty of mods around but also punks, skins and greasers. Racist? heard of SHARP? Great times.
what you talkin about we are the mods? the bodysnatchers were part of the 2tone ska movement and had a large skinhead/rude boy following, who didnt excactly see eye to eye with the mods.
Seattle, 1981 -- I was 22 and just out of university, working at a theatre, staying out all night. Bought a record by Madness & my eyes were opened. "Dance Craze" made it to Seattle later that year. This particular song became an instant favorite & I have been searching for a video/dvd of the movie for years. Now I have a good copy. I may be 49 years old, married, with 5 kids, but this takes me right back to those great days. Such energy & joyful defiance. Hope all these women thrive
During the Second Wave ska movement, there were indeed skinheads and mods (at least people mimicking the original mods), even in Seattle. I remember the small phalanx of multi-mirrored Vespas parked in the University District. But from 1978-81, Punk, New Wave, and Second Wave ska were the really interesting movements. We didn't have the mod-skinhead tensions because here it was really just a fasion trend. During the so-called Third Wave ska movement, Neville Staples lived in Seattle.
the 2 tone tours were amazing. I saw 2 in Tiffanys in Glasgow. Specials/Madness/Selecter then Specials/The Beat/ Bodysnatchers
