@Darkreaperxl Well, I know some people don't like epoxy, but it's there for a reason. Not all glues withstand heat, are waterproof and fill gaps well. Epoxy does all of that.I have tried other adhesives--from super glue to silicone--and not found anything else that works. So when people ask if they can use JB Weld, the answer is yes, because that's just a brand name of epoxy. Follow directions exactly the first time through, experiment after you have one working.
@shivambansal99 Yes, I could make only one video. The way I put it to myself at the time was that parts would help keep track of where they left off. Also, the alternate video site for when YouTube is blocked has a time limit on videos.
It's a common question about substitutes for epoxy. I have tried other glues without success, including silicone and super glue. Sometime when I have some more time I'll try out other alternatives.
That said, anybody in North America or Europe should be able to find epoxy in hardware, department stores.
Dear slater I can't find epoxy on my local shops does your engine still works if I apply flammable superglue because thats the hardest glue I can find or can it work with normal glue or super glue? please answer soon. Thanks!
I've watched these and they are excellent instructions. Students could learn a lot about what makes instructions good by paying attention to this and how you are doing it.
@95berre Excellent question. The part of the straw that goes inside the engine should melt , or at least deform. I think they do not because they are coated with a thin layer of epoxy. Epoxy does not melt.
@95berre There is water in the straws.... Try putting a paper cup into a fire if there is water inside the cup then the cup will only burn to the water line.
@bagpipeingman Hot glue might work for sealing the straws where they come out of the engine Because it might not get too hot. However, you cannot use hot glue on the rest of the engine--it gets too hot. Until you get an engine running, follow the directions exactly. Experiment after.
@mitchytot Probably not. The glue has to be waterproof a somewhat heatproof. Remember, you are making a steam engine. I tried to make it as simple as possible, but at some point it cannot be simplified anymore.
@sciencetoymaker Hi, youre really good! I was builded one pop pop motor but - it works without charakteristic sound =(... And my boat is very slow... I was watched all your videos an i was builded it while i was watching and everything you was showed i was builded... But no sound and no fast... Sorry for bad spell...
It would would save time and hassle, but doing it as a single step just didn't work for me. With the straw in only a little bit, the other end of the engine seems to not open up, and it doesn't operate right. But after you've made one that works, experiment with ideas like that and tell us if you find a better way.
re hot glue instead of epoxy: No. the stean engine gets hot; it would melt the hot glue. Follow directions exactly the for the first engine. When you get it working, then experiment with variations.
In North America we call them "hardware stores" or "building centers." I do not know what they are called elsewhere, but go to a store where they sell building materials or paint or hand tools.

Zebwar4 6 months ago
@Zebwar4 You can't get hot glue too close to the hot part of the engine because it will soften and melt again.

@mapleisacat Pen tube are probably so thin they create too much resistance to flow, but I have never actually tried.

The super glue didn't work very well,
But I found some thick, good quality craft glue and that worked pretty well, but I had to put a very thick layer.

Well, now we know about the super glue. Why does everybody try to avoid epoxy? It's amazing stuff.
