  • @ExtendedSpace Ok, if you havent figured it out by now, go under Image > Mode, And see if its checked next to the 8 Bits/Channel. If its not, select the 8 Bits/Channel. Then try to distort. That should solve your problem. And if that dont work, im not sure whats happening.

  • @Psyrix21 YEa, i figured out :) but thank's anyway for the answear :) and awesome tut!

  • I can see ugly black pixels in my planet :/

  • Wow, thanks!!! I did it excellent!

  • Comment removed

  • What buttons do you press at 2:58 to fill black?

  • @pbrew85 Ctrl+Backspace or Alt+Backspace depending on what color you have for foreground and background

  • very helpful tut, thank you very much

  • Linux, eh?

  • @CaptTeabag nope, Windows XP Professional

  • @Psyrix21 What made you choose that OS? I'm not complaining, just interested.

  • @CaptTeabag I used XP Pro back then for Gaming, Photoshop, AutoCAD, and a few others that wouldn't run on linux, and my other box Had Ubuntu on it, where I did all my web coding and other various internet crap. Now I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate, and still have Ubuntu on my other box, and one more older box for a file server. I kinda stopped doing Graphics, and mainly focusing on my Photography. I still might do another tutorial on Planet rings, which is 10 times better than the ones on youtube.

  • tnx mate

  • Ty so much :) A little suggestion for noobies like me out there when you do those keyboard commands can you put a annotation saying what u clicked? that will be a better learning process for alot of people. But great tutorial 5/5

  • Amazing tutorial!

  • Best planet tutorial on youtube!...

  • abit confusing on the layer part..

    -.-

  • Verynice tutorial :D better than most.

    Please make more :P

  • nice tutorial, quick question: when i hold ctrl and click on the texture layer it doesn't highlight the image like it does in your video. im using CS3 photoshop and I dont understand why i cant select it like that. can you suggest anything?

  • @Tommygun456 Are you Ctrl Clicking on the Box Preview of the Layer? or the Text part of the layer? Cause you have to Ctrl Click on the Box Preview of the layer to select it. If you dont understand what i mean, watch the video again, and notice where i Click.

  • @Psyrix21 ooooh... is that it? I spent ages trying to figure that out. thanx dood, thats really useful. the planets i made turned out ok but they dont look as realistic as you demonstration. they should look much better now... thanx

  • Epic video man, don't listen to all the other fuckers that can't use shortcuts etc...

    Awesome.

  • I don't see how people say this is a bad tutorial and how they don't understand key commands...

Sucks for them, because this is really easy and I really appreciate it. Thanks man

  • Stop using keyboard commands

    Speak better

    Then make a better tutorial

You have to assume everyone is a beginner, thus they are searching for tutorials. Don't expect them to know everything so easily.

  • wondering where he got his amazing PC wallpaper visit this site :) i thought it was amazing.

    gallery.

    artofgregmartin.

    com

  • Hey great Job i got a general Gist of what i needed to do. don't worry about the dip craps that are complaining they just don't appreciate the fine art of shortcutting ;)

  • Thanks for the tutorial. I loved how it turned out. I'll post a video response of the planets i made based off of this!

  • bad news: soz nobody likes ur voice m8 xD nohitng personal

good news: awesome tutorial, and better than most i seen ;)

  • The tut isn't so good at all. You use too much keyboard commands. The use in Video tutors is that you can see exactly what the 'painter' does. When you use commands the tut can be easly made in a step by step text file :-)

    Your voice is kindda annoying

  • @Kadishona You say to many "keyboard commands" and some1 else said not enough "keyboard commands" so, as far as i can tell only two of you dislike the tut for that reason.

Oh and next time I do a tut, i'll be sure to "Dub" in a womans voice just for you....

  • @Psyrix21 Dude don't get me wrong. Compared to the other guy who usese Pluto as base your pictures is TIMES better. It's almost brilliant and very beautiful.

I say that we just want to see what are you doing cause some of the visitors don't know how to do some commands which you perform by keyboard commands :-). And about the voice try to be a little bit more lively!

    Best Regards!

  • @Kadishona This tutorial is terrific. It's nice that he doesn't explain where the tool is, what button to press, and what it does. I've been using the photoshop CS series since it was CS2, i know the hot keys and commands and I'm sick of hearing over and over again what the same 30 tools do. Not every single tutorial is aimed to teach the most incapable of human beings. Perhaps you should take your whining somewhere it belongs, like an elementary school.

  • @Marchosias Your stupidity amuses me! Please google the word "Tutorial" and see what does it mean! NeitherIn the headline nor the aditional information is mentioned that this tutorial is not for begginers. And your intolerance is really disallowing you to be a decent person.

I do not whine I critisize, so for the sake of everybody who reads your pointless comments- stop it!

  • 8 People were jealous of his theme.

  • this was rly useful dude thx

  • @MartinBodger pause button?

  • video xem cung binh thuong

  • This looks good! I think I might try it! :D

Do you have any tutorials on how to make stars/galaxies?

  • @SailorRocket no tutorials on stars or galaxies sry, maybe soon i will, but the next tutorial i plan on doing is planet rings.

  • @Psyrix21 Planet rings FTW

  • @DanielMcGeachie Ok, to select the base layer or any other layer with a selection, hold Ctrl and Click on the box Icon of whatever layer you want to select, and it will put a selection around that layer. You can see where i click on the video.

  • great tut but cmon man dont get too excited

  • holy motherfucker! damn, that's awesome! good job man

  • This is the first tutorial (doing planets) I actually understood! THANK YOU!

  • whoaa....i love your win theme, were can i find it for win 7 ultimate:)

    pls tell me

  • @GE24Tony lol, that was on Win XP Pro, and the theme, i have no clue what it was called, i just know it was a minimalistic theme.

  • @Psyrix21 ok...thx anyway ;)

  • I have watched a couple ways of making planets and this one is the best so far...keep making the tutorials.

  • Looks really good man!

    Got the picture uploaded anywhere?

  • @chokoladeskilpad I added an url in the description where you can see where i used the same technique. :)

  • what did you do exactly in 04:28 ?? my english is not so good...

  • @blackanggel I merged the new layer with the atmosphere layer, merging two layers is done by selecting two layers and hitting Ctrl + E.

  • @Psyrix21 thank you...

  • @blackanggel You are welcome, :)

  • how did you copy the layers?

  • @UltraMif71 click on whatever layer you want to copy in the layers palette and hit

Ctrl + J, it will copy the layer.

  • @UltraMif71 Yeah I was lost also, I think he forgets that most of the people watching this is new to cs5

  • what do you exactly do load section 4:45 (Shadow and base). Btw i got CS2

  • @MysticPker1 I hit Ctrl + left Click the mouse in the layers palette on the base layer. I Use the Base layer mainly for the selection on this piece.

  • Thanks man this is sexy. :)

  • ur pro x)

  • THANKS !!! turned out great !,

  • Comment removed

  • VERY NICE BUT SINCE I'M NEW AT PHOTOSHOP CS3 I WAS WONDERING HOW DID YOU TURN YOUR SPHERE TO BLACK IN JUST A CLICK WHAT'S THE SHORT CUT ?

  • @pmaertens Alt + Backspace will fill with your foreground color, and Ctrl + Backspace will fill with your Background color. Delete also works instead of Backspace.

  • Good job man

  • this is not tutorial this is show off

  • @tomaszwwa Uh, yeah okay first of all, fu** you man. This guy went out of his way to make this tutorial to help us, did you know how to make a planet like this one before, because I sure didnt. And explain to me sir how this is showoff, I think i am missing something here jackass

  • @CasualGamestop

ok I'm sorry to everyone He just could take his time and do it slower especially for people for who english isnt their first language. I have to admit now that it is one of the best tut if not the best on how to make a planet.

I'm sorry guys and you were right casualgamestop to telling me that.

I'm sorry but that was very long day for me and I needed this quick.

Of course its a poor excuse for my bad behaviour.

I'm sorry again. It will never happen again.

    Best Regards

  • What hotkeys do you use to merge down and duplicate layer and such. o.O

  • @ErrorMonster Ctrl + E is merge selected, just shift click or ctrl click on the layers you want to merge and hit Ctrl + E, and to duplicate is Ctrl + J.

  • I have seen so many tutorials and I know much about photoshop and how to make a space but this tutorial was AWESOME! Well done Psyrix21, thx for your help and thx for the link in google... Again awesome... :)

  • really nice tut man, i had another idea, but I can't perform it: you know these pictures of earth at night, so you can see all the city's lightnen? would it be possible to combine earth at night and earth at day. I think that would be really good looking.

  • @maxmeeuwis138 Oh its possible, all you need to do is find a Earth Map at night, and repeat the steps in this tutorial, accept the shadow part, cause that would cover the lights.

  • when @ 3:05 I make the atmosphere black, there is left a very thin ( 1 pixel) circle around of the planet texture, which will eventually be seeable when finished. How do I get rid of it in the first stage?

  • @maxmeeuwis138 I'm not quite sure how your getting the 1 pixel circle around, but if you are, just once you've selected it, go to Select > Modify > Expand. And Expand it by 1 pixel.

  • Thanks a bunch dude! Gotta make a book cover for Brave New World for my class, this tut is exactly what I'm looking for.

  • Hey how did he remove the scrollbar to move the screen around 5:09

  • @Guitarman2k104life ahhh, that comes in very handy sometimes... all you do is hit "F" key.

  • how did you turn the bottem layer black?

  • @Guitarman2k104life if you have your Foreground and Background colors set to default, Ctrl+backspace will turn whatever you have selected black

  • Hey you got a tut for a colonized planet? like one with tons of towns or giant centers and space ports anything like that?

  • @crazycabose No I don't, but i've been thinking of making one. But also i haven't done much Graphic's for awhile now. I've been focusing on my photography.

I might have one in the future, you never know...

  • Really helpful tutorial thanks a lot :)

  • what program u use to record this??

  • @carlosymarie I used Camtasia Studio 7

  • Interesting tutorial! Perhaps I will switch from my regular method to try out this one! :)

  • could someone think of a way to do it in gimp? i could do everything up to 3:08 and then couldn't find an effect like that...

  • What does merging a blank layer with the atmosphere layer do? And why do you copy the shadow layer and delete the old one? Awesome vid btw!

  • Thank you....tutorial very cool

  • I have no idea what you just did, but whatever it was, was amazing! Nice one!

  • awesome - tho if yr a novice at PS you'll need to know the key strokes to copy, merge etc etc but, I got this spot on - had to tweak it a bit but that's the beauty of tuts - adjust it, experiment as you go along. Five stars from me :o)

  • how you did coveret black to base and atmosphare

  • @69DMGxEAZY69

To Fill the layer's to black, either do Ctrl + Backspace or Ctrl + Delete, depending on your foreground or background color being black. :)

Or you can just go to Edit > Fill and use that, same thing.

  • @Psyrix21 thx now it is working^^

  • Really good tutorial, thanks! :D

  • Is that windows or mac. It looks really cool!

    Great tut.

  • @HDPremiumVideos its windows with a patched UXTheme.dll and Object Dock. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Psyrix21 Hey, just wondering exactly what theme it is / where i can get it cause its so cool and i want it too. Ps. Great vid, i made a planet of my own!

  • @m0thertuck3r I really cant remember, and I have formated and installed Windows 7 Since then, if anything i can remember in the name of the theme is "minimal" or "minimalistic". sorry man :/

  • Where'd u get that background?that shit looks awesome!

  • @dvm069 and yes it will work in CS4.

  • @dvm069 Ctrl + Backspace or Alt + Backspace will fill color depending on your foreground or background.. :)

  • Awesome tutorial, I ended up with something pretty awesome myself, thanks a bunch.

  • thanks man real nice video

  • Because if u don't do these steps, the excess shadow will be in the way of Stars, Nebula's, or other space matter if people want to use this technique in a space scene. Therefore the excess shadow and atmosphere must be erased. :)

  • Thanks for the tutorial you were a little hazy but i was able to follow

  • nice! thanks.

  • awesome tut

  • dude at 2:58, when you fill the base black and it looks like a Sphere how did you do that? everytime i do it it blacksout the whole box. then it messes with the next step the Atmo, very irritating man.

you Tut is awesome though you need to call out your keys bro. some of us get lost when all we hear is you tapping the keys :P

  • lol, ya i just woke up when i did this tut sry man. :)

But it only does the sphere because the selection is still there from the planet layer, i just do the base and atmosphere on a new layer with the selection from the Planet layer,

You'll notice after i fill in the Atmosphere layer i say Deselect, which means im getting rid of the Selection.

Maybe one of these days i'll redo it using just the mouse and menus.... im a keyboard command type of person, its alot faster

  • to deselect i just do Ctrl+d

  • what theme is it???

  • If your referring to the Visual Style theme, its called Monolit

  • How do you 'merge' two layers together?

  • you Shift or Ctrl Click on the layers you want merged, then You could either Right Click then select "merge layers" or Ctrl + E

  • okay, thank you! :D

  • Awesome tutorial! Clear and concise. Everything goes well for me until it is time to add the lens flare. Lens flare is always in gray so I cannot even select it. Do you know whats going on? Thanks man!

  • No clue why u cant use Lens flare....i tried to recreate the problem, and i was unable to...sorry man cant help ya.

  • Thats cool, thanks for checking:-) Maybe I'll find a tutorial on drawing your own lens flares...

  • Great tuto... Thanks man!

  • Fantastic, five stars.

    Many thanks

  • 5/5 Absolutely amazing and helpful tutorial. Im subscribed...And your background, comm'on, HOW did U do that??? I like that...

  • Great TUT!!

  • damn :D that was a really good tutorial thanks alot mate :D

  • 5/5 stars...great tut my friend!!!:P

  • where did you get the picture you have for your desktop background?? if you made it can i have it also? Thats hot!

  • on 6:03 How do i copy the texture layer ?

  • Instead of copy the layer, i just duplicate the layer, you can right click the layer > Duplicate layer.... Or hit Ctrl+J will also duplicate the later. :)

  • hey, what operating system you using?

  • That was Windows XP Pro, using Object Dock, and Rainmeter

with a patch to the UXTheme.dll file. :)

  • ohh ok, i was just wondering, i a m using mac :)

  • outer glow WWRRRHHHH xcuse me

    xD

    great tut^^

  • I got stuck on the move tool bit i cant move my picture at all. I followed the tutorial but the move selection only goes around the planet not the entire thing so i get a dodgey shadow effect:/ Help
