The Lost Levels version isn't watered down. It's the exact same game, except that it lets you save where you can continue from the level you died on, rather than the start of each world.
I have the Super Mario All-Stars cartridge which has this game on this. I also downloaded this off the Virtual Console, and I was always wondering why I had such a hard time finishing it compared to the one on SNES.
for some reason, i want to go and grab a NES out of my closet when there's nly a gamecube and a dreamcast, some clothes, and lots of toys in there and my snes is sitting nest to me with the smas game sart in it. wtf did i just type. i going to blow my summer vaacation on smbll =D
The ground looks different on this game. I have Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, but the ground looks the same as in the 1st Mario game. Only thing about the Deluxe verison of this game is they don't have World's 9 through D.
I'm not sure how. I know on the All-Stars version and GGC version, you can save the game so you don't have to start all the way over at World 1 (which is a VERY big help), but other than that, it's just as hard as ever.
i have this on the vc on my wii. omg it is very hard. i also had it on the gbc. i beat it and i felt like god then. now that i know that the famicom game is harder, i just wonder how i will feel if i beat it. XD
Great game, but yes, it is very hard! Only beat it once or twice really, with MANY deaths on the way! Got the Virtual Console version, looks really good on my plasma screen! Texture is incredible, speed and framrate is really good, and hearing the music is a blessing! The extra obstacles though, are a nuisance, but what do you expect? It is Super Mario Bros for Super Players! LOL!
Where did you get this one? I know much about this game, played it at "Mario Allstars" and "Mario Bros Deluxe". But I don't know where to get it for GBA. Is it included in "NES Classics Super Mario Bros. "? Please tell me, I wanna get it!
The GBA version of Japan's Super Mario Bros. 2 was not released in Europe or North America. It was only released in Japan. Considering you're from Germany, you might want to start looking at the internet auction sites, like eBay. That might be your best bet. Good luck finding a copy.
Yeah that was just plain stupid alls they had to do was release it as the lost levels like the snes allstars release. Damn prejudice nintendo of america, we want our hard games!
yes it is, but that is just a "parody" of what this game was on super mario all-stars! Nintendo made an excuse that these "new" levels of the super mario bros engine appeared "out of nowhere", since the Western regions never got a release until the 16 bit All-Stars game! That's how it got its name! I prefer to call it Super Mario Bros 2, and the so-called Western version Super Mario Bros: Subcom or whatever the world the mario clan ended up in!
I got the Wii Virtual Console version of it. I can't get past World 4-1. And the only reason I'm even THAT far was from getting to a Warp Zone in 1-2.
Seriously, this guy and NOA were right-- this IS a tough game.
fortunately, i'm "hardcore" enough to have gotten to level 8-4 of this on the gameboy color, but i keep getting stuck at the ridiculous loops in that level.
Great video and very informative. If this game was released in all of it's original glory it would have ended the America's love affair with Super Mario. Kids would have played this game and would have said, "This game is too hard. I hate Mario!" So when S.M.B. 3 was going to be released, kids would have ignored the new Mario game and Nintendo of America would not have Mario as there mascot anymore.
@slugMAN13 I'm not sure I really agree with that...a lot of very popular franchises released games in North America that were much more difficult than their Japanese counterparts and those games did great. If you look at the timing of the release it has a lot more to do with it than the difficulty of the game. In 1986 Nintendo was barely even starting to get a fanbase in the US and most people hadn't even played Super Mario 1 yet, so releasing part 2 didn't make much sense.
@RichieEastside In 1986, Nintendo was about to expand the NES to other markets in the U.S. at that time. If the original SMB2 was released in the U.S. back then, the difficulty level alone could have potentially spurned lots of gamers from playing Mario games, affecting NES game sales. If you were 6 or 7 years old at the time this game came out after playing SMB1, and you tried this, you might have thrown the controller at the TV! I think that's part of the reason why Nintendo shelved this game.
Who the fuck says "Nes" people either say "N.E.S. " or "Regular Nintendo" what do you call P.S.2 "Pisstwo" ? Don't worry tho, from the sounds of It you can't even talk right either.
Thats because nintendo america sucked. It was too hard for them so they felt like retards. When i first got my Wii, the first thing i snagged was Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost levels to some people) Because it IS the much more harder game
I wish they would include difficultly settings on Mario Games. More enemies, stronger bosses, and less health available. Super Mario Galaxy was interesting with its 3 health piece system but the game is to easy to really show case it. Few times have I ever felt endangered playing that game.
Eh, all other Mario games are pretty easy it seems. The Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 was the first and coincidentally the last time the designers at Nintendo Co. actually attempted in creating a difficult and unconventional Mario game.
The difficulty was not toned down for the SNES version. In fact, it has been upped a bit in Worlds A-D. You do, however, start off with 5 lives in the SNES version, instead of 3. And there is one additional method of getting extra 1-ups in the SNES version if you have the skills to pull it off. There are no extra power-ups or 1-ups, and certainly not fewer enemies.
I hate this game due to its excessive, fun killing difficulty but also due to the lack of originality unlike the other SMB2. Actually Mr.Miyamoto was more involved in Doki Doki Panic than with this game (he was busy finishing Zelda).
LOl I don't know why they kept this back and let Ghosts n Goblins out, that is way more difficult and much more frustrating -- despite the nice feature of unlimited continues and continuing from where you died (mind you it pretty much had to be or no one would ever have finished it).
Dude, Super Mario Bros 2 is HARD. I already can't beat Super Mario Bros without losing my mind in World 8. Super Mario Bros 2 just gets me more ticked than ever.
They should be pronouncing it like that. I know some people who pronounce it like that too, but if I told them it was wrong, they'd tell me to shut up.
